In all layer 2 caves, when you go to edit layer two, the ground turns yellow and the lava turns purple, and pink, and all ugly. How do you change the palette of layer 2 so that the lava is normal colour? Thanks in advance.

Cave level got a special layer 2 wich make all the layer 2 objet use the same plallete so If you only have lava but no other object this will be ok,Personnally I never used layer 2 cave level because of that,to figure out the pallette juste make anyting yellow black util the lava change color then hit cancel and reopen the pallete editor and edit the color

actually, the game adjusts all palettes on layer 2 in a certain tileset, use one of the other undergound tilesets (Ther's 3), that will fix tour problem.

You sure it's tileset-related? You do realize that if you open the palette editor, you can choose different level palettes with the FG/BG/Sprite Palette dropdown boxes. This is how the game does things like making the ice levels blue while still using the Cave tileset.

Yes, it's tileset-related. One of them (I think it's just one) will increase the palette numbers of layer 2 tiles by 4. Tiles that normally use palettes 0-3 will use palettes 4-7 instead, while tiles that normally use palettes 4-7 will remain unaffected.

Hmm, still poses a problem. Underground 1 uses purple and pink lava, Underground 2 uses red lava with the top messed up, and Underground 3 messes up my other tiles. I looked at where the colours of the lava are in the palette editor, but they still show up red to yellow, and not pink to purple. There IS a pink to purple area, but it's for the ON/OFF blocks.

I guess my only solution is to use the Normal tileset or the Castle tileset. But then if I use the Castle tileset, it triggers the castle opening. Does anyone know how to stop the scene where Mario goes into a castle?

Doesn't disabling the No Yoshi intro do that? If need be, you could start in a small outdoor area and enter the castle via pipe.

Ah, it worked HH, thank you - I figured it wouldn't since the castle was different from the typical No Yoshi symbol. But it worked
