This might have been brought up before, but anyway, I had an idea... Using AcmlmBoards as news systems.

You'd have a "News" forum, where only administrators can post new topics, but everyone can reply. Also, those news would be displayed on my site, and the replies would appear as comments there, viewable if you click a link...

Just like the way it is on http://www.rainemu.com... You get the idea ?

What do you guys think ? Does that sound easily doable ? Maybe someone did it before ?

It's been done on dozens of boards, though no Acmlmboards I know of. Certainly doable, but what news is there?

I meant to use that for my site, it wasn't a suggestion for this place, if that's what you're confused about.

Still cool. Is there any place that explains how to do it, or that has the whole thing up for download or something ?

Thanks.

See AcmlmBoard News Poster 1.0 by Weasel at the AcmlmBoard Mods page.

Thank you !

Actually, I had already seen those hacks before... but I didn't know what all of them were about. I think they should add a short description for each of them.

I guess the "New Posts" hack is what I want actually, assuming it's the 1.A2 version of "News Posters" ?

Nope. The New Posts mod will list the newest posts on the board. There's no updated version of Weasel's ABNews Poster. This thread tells you how to update it for v1.92, but it doesn't work for me... For some reason, it won't pull the actual message body and print it. Even good old Randy53215 can't seem to figure out why it won't work...

And yes, the AcmlmBoard Mods page needs both a new name (since they aren't hacks, but mods or plug-ins), and descriptions of what's what.

I could probably make a 'plugin' like this. Though I want to wait for the "official" release of 1.B0 to be released so I can add my plugins and some new features.

Yeah, I guess I'd rather wait for new versions to come up before bothering with this...

Randy, when (and if) you do that plugin, would you put it on your site or something ? Just so I know where to look later...

Umm... unless they changed their minds, there's not gonna be a v1.B release...

Frankly, I just wish I knew why the frunk it refuses to work with v1.92...

I would try, but I don't have v1.92 anymore... unless that'd work with v1.A2 too.

I don't have v1.A2, so I dunno if it'd be compatible. I do know that there's a place where you can get the older versions...

Older AcmlmBoard versions, you mean ? Oh, I still have those on my computer (by the way, the link you posted doesn't work for me right now though, but I'm at work).
But I meant I'm not using v1.92 for my own board anymore, and I'm not going to downgrade for the news system.

So yeah, I could still upload v1.92 somewhere just to test if the thing you posted works for me, but then I wouldn't be able to use it for myself anyway... Frustrating.
Or not. V1.92 and v1.A2 aren't that different, I think, database-wise. I'll have to give it a shot...
I'll let you know if I'm successful. If you get no news from me, then assume it didn't work.

That... "link" is AcmlmDependant. Generally, when you can't access it, it's cause his connection is down...

And here's hoping you can get it to work!

Haha, it works !!

Look at this quick test... I had no problem setting it up. With v1.A2 too.

As you can see, the colors are fucked up though, but that must be easily fixable.
However, if you and Randy have failed making it work for you, I don't know if I can be of much help.
I can send you the PHP file I got if you want, even though you probably have the same one... You'd just have to change the board address and the SQL login info...

IIRC, the colors are messed up because the scheme stuff has changed majorly since v1.8a. You'll probably have to go through the file and replace the following:

$tblstart -> <table width=700 cellpadding=0 cellspacing=0 align=center border=1>
$tccell1 -> $tdbg$tablebg1><center>$fonttag
$tccell1a -> <td bgcolor=$tablebg1
$tccell2 -> <td bgcolor=$tablebg2><center>$fonttag
$tccell2a -> <td bgcolor=$tablebg2
$tccell2s -> <td bgcolor=$tablebg2><center>$smallfont
$tccell2l -> <td bgcolor=$tablebg2>$fonttag
$tccell2ls -> <td bgcolor=$tablebg2>$smallfont
$tblend -> $tblend$tblend
$tccellh -> $tccellha.$tccellhb
$tccellha -> <td bgcolor=$tableheadbg
$tccellhb -> ><center>$fonthead

And sure, I'll take a copy of it. If it turns out it's the same as mine, then I'll know the problem's not with the file, and is probably with my host...

Yeah, I assumed your problem was coming from your host...

Here's the file for you anyway: http://stifu.free.fr/newspost.rar

By the way, which file am I supposed to edit for the changes you posted ?
I guessed it would be in newspost.php, but no. Is that for a special scheme I have to do ? I'm kind of confused.

Woo! It works now! For some reason, mine was using $ptxt=mysql_query("SELECT text FROM posts_text WHERE pid=$news[id] ORDER BY id LIMIT 1");, and then using $ptxt to display the actual post. I checked it against the copy you provided, commented out that code, changed the $ptxt to $post[text], and it works!

Thank you!

As for the colors, I wasn't 100% certain if those vars were used in the file or not. It seems they aren't. Still, that list will come in handy when modifying other mods to work with v1.92+

I'm glad I could help.

If you ever get your hands or make yourself a quick fix for the colors, please let me know here.

Oh, you have to set those up yourself. If you look, you'll see this comment right before $displaynews: // You can customize this variable to change how news will appear on your site. Just edit the stuff in there to make the colors look right.

When I did it, I copy-pasted everything after $displaynews=" into notepad, gave it proper formatting, made my edits, bunched it all back up together, and pasted it over the old code. If you check my main page, you'll see that it "blends in" with the page.

Hmm... it doesn't seem to pick up line breaks... Oh well.

Ah alright. I'll try that...

Hmm, line breaks not working ?
You mean you have to type <br> all the time ? I think I'd be able to fix that.
