I heard of a Yoshi's Island level editor called "EggVine". Its homepage is at http://eggvine.wootest.net/index.html.

Eggvine is your only choice, there are *zero* other YI editors available on the internet available to the public, or in progress (that anyone knows about). Either get Eggvine working, or use a hex editor, both will probably take a bit of research and learning time on your part.

You should use Yoshi's Island v1.0 (U) for EggVine. Check if the rom you used is v1.0 (U). If it isn't, download it from the internet and try to use the v1.0 (U) rom.

EDIT: This is very important, as EggVine can only open v1.0 (U) roms.

You are kidding me, right?

Look, all the versions of Yoshi's Island are similar, but the way their data is stored is different. You saying that there is no Layer 4 in 1.0 (U) is just plain out stupid, as there is Layer 4 in all of them. I know. The last level, when Kamek is shooting magic at you. Yeah, that has four layers.

And that has nothing to do with how the level data is stored in the first place.

There is no layer 4. YI can only use layers 1, 2 and 3. To use layer 4 would mean using an NES-like palette.

Yeah, using 4 layers (aka BGs aka planes) on an SNES severely cripples what you can do with the machine.

Well I just tested out Kamek's magic room in the original YI and it appears cpu is right, there is a layer 4. When I disabled layer 4 some of the columns in the BG disappeared.
