Strangely, do you find yourself hearing different groups of songs every year of your life? At my earliest years, I listened to whatever I heard my parents play... Most of them I hated or got sick of... The music kinda sets up an outline of myself.

Age 1-3 (mid-late 80's): Phil Collins "Tonight Tonight", Fine Young Cannibals "She drives me Crazy", Kenny Loggin "Danger Zone", Tears for Fears "Everybody wants to rule the world", Yaz "Move out", Baltimora "Tarzan Boy", Guns and Roses "Welcome to the Jungle".
-I heard these songs on the rare occasions I got to be with my dad. I always wanted attention from him but he just played video games and got drunk.

Age 4-7 (early 90's): Tina Turner "What's love got to do with it?", Aerosmith "The Other Side", Aerosmith "Dude look like a lady".
-My family and I moved to America around this time and were looking for a place to stay. I was constantly annoyed by my baby sister crapping in the car all the time.

Age 8-9 (a lot of video games): STH2 "Chemical Zone", STH2 "Casino"(2p), STH3 "Angel Island", SCHQ "Intro", Mortal Kombat 2 "Intro", Mortal Kombat 1 "Character Select", Super Mario World "Special Zone"
-I was... a HUGE geek. But it was okay at a young age, people thought I was cute.

Age 10 (some video games): DKC2 "Mine", SMK64 "Frappe Snowland", Age of Empires "In-game music", Beck "I'm a loser Baby", Beck "Microphone", Butthole Surfers "Avalanche", Cake "The Distance", Chumbawumba "I get knocked down".
-I moved to Texas and it was a big change for me. All the kids were different and it took awhile to adjust. I was still a geek, but an ugly one.

Age 11 (hated my sister's music): STH3 "Hydrocity", SNK3 "Miniboss", SNK3 "Marble Garden", SNK3 "Desert Palace (2p)", All the DKC BGMs, Spice Girls (1rst cd, I hate them).
-It was the pinnacle of my best days. I came back from a long trip to Korea. My family was rich ($300,000 or more) and I had several friends and almost no fights. Barbecues every weekend.

Age 12-14 (when MTV was cool): Smashmouth "Allstar", Sugar Ray "Someday", Sugar Ray "Every morning", Red Hot Chili Peppers (their whole CD), Heavy Metal (CD), Eiffel 65 (CD), Allen Parsons Project "House of Usher".
-I lost my geekyness and grew up around then. I started liking girls most of the time. However I got picked on alot for not joining the football team. I began to darken emotionally.

Age 15 (violent age begins, listens to hate music): Twisted Metal: Black "Title", Linkin Park Meteora (CD), System of a Down "Chop Suey", Grinspoon "Champion", Powerman5000 "Super Nova".
-My parents argued all the time. I became a bully in my school and was feared by alot of kids.

Age 16 (Parents divorce turned me into an ass): Lil'John and the Eastide Boyz "I don't give a fuck", Lil'John and the Eastide Boyz "Get low", Slipknot "Spit it Out", Limp Bizkit "Fake", Coal Chamber "Big Truck", Rob Zombie "Living Dead Girl", Korn "Thoughtless".
-My parents divorced, blamed me for their inadequacies, and beat me. I was hated by a lot of people. I joined TEK for the first time and later became known as an asshat.

Age 17 (I became a little less or more assy): Mudvayne "Dig", Static-X "Monster", Mudvayne "World so Cold".
-I mellowed out a tad, got shot down by a girl, sorted my problems with my friend, got her pregnant, dated her, and eventually engaged. I had more responsibilities...

Age 18 (aka, now): Turmion Katilot, Cradle of Filth, Lamb of God.
-I had gone off on my own, cared for my child, and went through a HORRIBLE illness that drew me insane. I wonder what will happen starting next month?

Hmm

I remember being very young listening to the beatles and old stuff like that.

Around fifth grade my sister would pick me up and we'd listen to HFS which was all alternative. Think 90's bands like greenday, nirvana, stone temple pilots, third eye blind, etc.

Around 7th and 8th I was into mainstream rock music. Disturbed, linkin park (rock back then), etc.

I met a girl (current girlfriend) who introduced me to underground metal. Things like hardcore, straight-edge, black-metal, ska metal, etc.

Ever since then ive been into countless bands.
Trivium, God Forbid, Unearth, Terror, Throwdown, Hatebreed, Still Remains, It Dies Today, As I Lay Dying, Dreamwalk, In Flames, Hell Within, At The Gates, Devil Driver, Minor Threat, Life Of Agony, The Agony Scene, Bane, Atreyu, Avenged Sevenfold, I Killed The Prom Queen, Silverstein, Diecast, Heaven Shall Burn, Comeback Kid. Just to name a few

I have to say though during 8th through 10th grade I had been in alot of bullshit. my first "love" took drugs infront of me. Second one I cheated on and my last ex who I was very serious about cheated on me. I think those kind of things are what draw you to the kind of music I like.

I was never really into anything but game music up until recently. The music i liked could really be definde by what games i was playing at the time. I can't really place any specific songs for a specific year except probably the last few

early 90's- Probably NES Megaman music. Mario 3 as well.

mid 90's- Megaman X music, Sonic the hedgehog, can't really think of anything else off the top of my head.

late 90's-2000: Pokemon, Wrestling themes (not so much in 2000), and more of the same, really. I think there was a little Gundam Wing in there too.

2001: Romantic Mode- Dreams, or Give a Reason from Slayers.

2002: The opening stage from Megaman Zero. Or the Final Fantasy 7 boss theme.

2003: I was getting into more "actual" music at this time. a few songs that really stick out in my head are Dream theater: The Glass Prision, and Rammstein- Engel. as for gaming/anime songs... Probably like the theme from .hack or Spiral or something like that.

2004- I was getting into DDR, and sorta into the other games. I was getting into Sonata Arctica too... so i'd have to say DJ Amuro- A and Sonata Arctica- Black Sheep for this one...

2005- A friend of mine introduced me to Venetian Snares, which started my kick on some of the harder electronica stuff. However i've kept the same intrests in metal and game music. The songs that really stand out are Sonata Arctica- My Selene, Venetian Snares- Epidermis, Ace Attacker ver. W from Super Robot Wars, DJ Shrapnel- Zenon, and Dream Theater- War inside my head. Probably some other stuff too, like random eurobeat and various chiptunes.

not that interesting, really.

When I was little, I had disney movie soundtracks.. Lion King and such. I also liked the Beatles, still do. When I was 8-12, I liked pop crap. N'sync and all those boy bands. Then I started listening to my sister's music when I was 12 or 13, Green Day, The Clash, The Strokes, stuff like that. And I still listen to that music, with a few other bands thrown in. A notable band that is newer to me is Sleater-Kinney. Different, but very kickass.

Hmm, I don't remember the exact age, but I think I was somewhere between 4 - 6. That was when my mom used to play Cliff Richard in the car. Also, at around the same time, my dad used to listen to Creedence Clearwater Revival (I think), though, I never liked them very much... I also remember hearing what I think might be a song by Return on the radio, and that I liked that song.

Then, at age ten or eleven, I started listening to the Swedish duo, Roxette, and later on, also Meat Loaf (all from cd's my parents owned.)

Then, at the age of 16, I started to listen to more rap music, to be specific, Eminem, and later on, also D12.

I also started listening to stuff like Puddle of Mudd, Nickelback, P.O.D, etc. Then I came to board, and I saw some people here praising Linkin Park, so I checked them out.

Also, for some weird reason, I bought a Marilyn Manson record, which I listened to some. I didn't like it at all at first, though. Took some time before I liked that.

Also, because certain people around here talked about how good Metallica was, I checked them out too.

After that, I started to search for music that would be in the same style as Metallica. Also, at about the same time, I started listening to Nightwish.

And then I got into Dimmu Borgir, and In Flames. Someone from work then recommended me to check out Pantera, and Symphony X. And then I also got into Slayer. So yeah, that's it.

I usually didn't listen to music during my childhood. I liked stuff like Berlin or Jewel, crap like that my mom listened to.
I think around 12, 13, I really got into music. I'm real picky about music and don't have a favorite genre or anything.
Somewhere in there I started to enjoy videogame music. It began when my mom got me this Play It Loud CD with tunes from various SNES games. I still enjoy listening to a lot of videogame music, but it's nothing I do regulary.

I don't know how to relate it to my life like Cruel Justice did, with one exception. In middle school, I listened to just angsty trash. I made a lot of poor choices during that time with my life and attitude, and it's something I'd rather put behind me. I feel like now my musical tastes, and my perspective, have finally settled down into something I'm comfortable with. So I guess you can draw parallels there.
I listen to music all the time now. So yeah. Good stuff.

Wow, I don't know how you remember what music you listened to when you were 1 Cruel Justice. Myself, most of my life was video game music from countless games I've played which I can't remember.

Let's see...

1-3 - Alot of Classic rock stuff, Led Zeppelin, Rush (who knew 15 years later I would be a huge fan) and new wave music.

4-7 - I remember Guns & Roses, Bee Gees, Motley Crue and hair metal stuff.

8-11 - Didn't really pay attention to the music around me.

12-14- Pop, Video Game Music and Hip-Hop

15 to now (17) - slowly getting into Progressive Rock, like Rush, Yes, Dream Theater Genesis and Emerson Lake & Palmer. Some underground indie bands, speed/power metal and of course classic rock. I also picked up the keyboard so that had a big influence.

Hmm..I don't know how to relate it to my life..so..

1-3 umm..my parents listened to a lot of different things like poppish crap. I don't even know the names . The weirdo stuff back in the late 90's to early 90's.

4-7
Old school hip hop! My parents liked this stuff too, my cousins did, everyone did. Stuff like Dr Dre, Snoop..haha I remember the song by MC Hammer being played and my cousin liking it XD. They had a bunch of other rappers out too with that song "Rappers Delight" I think by Naughty By nature. I do remmeber hearing a song that I liked where they said "I saw the sign, and it opened up my eyes I saw the sign" I dont remember the rest..
I lived in a bad neighborhood

8-11
I actually bought Britney Spears first CD listened to Nsync..Justin Timberlake was like..sexy... My friends liked them too, we got Britney Spears' CD. This is when I got into the Teenybopper stuff.
We moved to a better neighberhood, better school so I guess I got a taste of new things and this is when I started to get what the names of who sang the songs and stuff. More HIp hop here..

12-14
Christina Aguilera..she was good. I started to like her more than Britney Spears. Went to my first concert. Still liked poppy stuff and this is when Destiny's Child got big and I saw them too. Eminem too, I listned to Hip HOp all through these times. Nelly, Started with some videogame music.

15-present
I used to hate rock then I started to listen to Linkin Park because my sister did too, my friend likeded it too and I likeded it and then I got more into other artists. I still listen to HIp hop, Christina Aguilera needs to come out with a new CD. I dont really listen to videogame music much. Lately I haven't been in much of any type of rock mood but early this week I was . I got into Spanish type music too around this time..Daddy Yankee, K1, DJ Kane, Kumbia Kings, Ivy Queen, the power producers Luny Tunes.
Now started into college..so I don't know..my music doesnt really relate to what happened..it represents little change. More into hip hop too though with Tupac, The Game, Wu Tang, Jay Z, NaS. I used to listen to Mainstream stuff.

I cannot sort that into certain age ranges:

My taste of music developed very late, I think my first Rammstein CD was when I was 18 or around that years old.
From my sixth to my fourteenth year I played the piano, classic mostly but it somehow was very nice - if I had a piano in front me me just now, I would start playing Beethoven's "Mondscheinsonate" - it is one of the tracks way overused in TV, advertisement, but I like it - or my most favourite thing in classic music: Tschaikowsky's "Klavierkonzert No. 1" - simply great, about 30 minutes anything between silence and orchestral pompous music; my dream might be to play the piano part of that (if I wasn't lazy, young and stopped playing the piano with 14 years ).

Other than that, I also adore mostly rock, metal and also video gane music.
I don'T distinction between group which people call "mainstream", I simply hear what I like.

So there's groups like Rammstein, their albums "Sehnsucht" and "Mutter" (Klavier, Engel, ... nearly every song is just perfect) are the two best ever from them; but I cannot take the texts seriously.
Then there's Apocalyptica. Although their last two albums SUCK ("Reflections" and the even worse "Apocalyptica" album), the first three ones - Four Cellos Playing Metallica, Inquisition Symphony (got that last week, great) and Cult! kick ass.
It's weird to have a group which mostly uses violins and combines that with metal.

But as stated, the last two CDs disappointed me very much - hopefully they can find their path pack ...
Machine Supremacy is a group which plays almost very original heavy metal, thus using also samples from C64 sometimes - but it is a very unknown, but good group. Whoever hears "Soundtrack To The Rebellion", "Hero", "Attack Music" or the funny cover of "I Turn To You" - will be impressed; and a lot of songs songs are _free_ to download from their homepage.

As for video game music, it would be far too long to list every game; but to mention my most favourite soundtracks might be - Valkyrie Profile for PSX, Star Ocean 2 for PSX, Rudra no Hihou and Final Fantasy VI for SNES, Tactics Ogre and many, many more.
