I've been analyzing my own quirks lately, and have thus become curious as to the quirks that other people hold. Quirks define reason and often go unexplained. They may be conscious or unconscious. I'll note a few of my quirks, just so you know what we're talking about here.

- I always wear at least one article of clothing or accessory which is red in color. Even if it's under my clothes where no one sees it, I must wear something red if I am wearing anything at all.
- I "write" on my arms with my fingertip. The act of writing something down, even if I can't visibly read it, is a great memory aid to me. Looking at my arm later on helps me remember what I "wrote."
- I paint bands of color around my fingers, as if they were rings, almost always on my fore and middle fingers of my left hand.
- I wear a cloth bracelet at all times, and wash it when I bathe as if it were a part of my body.

Please, tell us of your quirks.

One that quickly came to mind.. when I order a cheeseburger or sandwich or something, I have to take it all apart and put it back together myself before eating it.

I have a nervous twitch that I got when I was thrown down the stairs as a baby.

I also have another nervous leg twitch that I can't stop the minute I sit down my leg starts going wonky. It blows.

When I go to bed I have to have two pillows flanking my head to give me a sense of security.

Things like that.

I'm easily angered by stupidity. Naturally, I wind up getting pissed at myself many times, and for minor things...

If I'm not sleeping, I must be listening to something... Otherwise I need to keep my hands busy by fiddling with something.

--Edit--
When I can't sleep, I know exactly why. It's because my mind wont stop thinking about shit. I can be physically exhausted and still not sleep for another 4 hours because my mind is just lost in thought. That, and I can't sleep on my back.

Hmmm, well one that comes to mind is that whenever I go to bed (I always lay on my stomach or side, I can't sleep on my back.), I always have to have one arm under my pillow. I've been doing it ever since I can remember. It's a comfort thing really.

Also, I have a tendancy to bite the skin right under where the tip of my fingernails are.

Ah, the previous post reminds me. I can't sleep without having some kind of ambient noise in the background. Sometimes it's music, but I usually just leave the television on.

Same here.

I also:

Have to be on the computer before bed. Then go upstairs and watch TV (almost always with a drink or food). I have a picture of Jess I say goodnight too () and then go to bed. I seem to sleep better with my TV on, but my parents hate it.

I also tend to "replay" my day in my head. Not saying it to myself, but playing it like a movie. Either that, or replay another day that was awesome.

When I wake up in the mornings, if I had a really great, weird, strange etc dream, I will type it down in a document I have on my PC. I have a few awesome ones!

I ALWAYS have to eat my tacos like so: Hamburger, cheese, lettuce. That way the juice from the meat soaks the shell. The cheese melts into the hamburger. And the lettuce provides some "coldness" to the spice.

I sing along with my songs....and actually think I sound good.

I tend to go off into random things when talking/typing.

I do alot more, but not really any that I can explain or think of right now.

Um..I have a blankey..erm blanket that I have to cuddle to support my arms while I sleep on my side.

I try to sleep on my sides but then I end up sleeping on my stomach either way.

I pick at my teeth when my gums feel itchy or something..maybe there's something wrong with them

I always have to have the radio on before I sleep and all night or else it'll be too quiet for me well besides passing cars..

I sometimes do the pillow thing too, to feel secure or warm and comfy or I use a blanket instead of a pillow on the other side of my head when Im sleeping on my side.

I always need lotion.

I sing to my songs too!! Sometimes I think I sound good also..I have a beautiful voice..

I simply cannot under normal circumstances get to sleep before midnight, or at the earliest 11 PM. I can, however, wake up (sometimes) with no alarm at 8 AM the morning after staying up until 2 AM... and repeat the same thing the next night. I have really odd sleeping habits...

At night, I constantly switch which side I'm sleeping on; I can't sleep on my back or entirely on my stomach, and there's also usually one side I can't sleep on that night. This sometimes leads to me accidentally hitting the wall multiple times in one night.

I, like some others, sing along with random songs on the radio. The difference is that I suck at singing, and I know it. This is why I'm usually away from the customers while I sing. Hrm... most recent song I sung along with was One Headlight, though I didn't know all of it... there's some that I'm not too bad at, though only when I'm singing in a quieter voice. The louder I sing, the more off-key I get.

I tend to ramble. Noticed?

Since it's been mentioned multiple times so far, I'd like to say something about people who can't sleep without some sort of background noise (radio, television, etc.); I've heard that peoples sleeping habits are highly influenced by their time spent in the womb, and indeed that when we go to sleep, we subconsciously try to make ourselves feel as if we're back in the womb, as that is supposedly the natural state of comfort and security. What we do to feel that way includes the way we sleep (many sleep in the fetal position) and how we arrange our environment (some must have lights on, some must have absolute darkness, some must have ambient noise, some must have total silence). Interesting to think about, no?

Hmm..I never thought about that..Yay for thinking

The thing in the background I didn't start until just a few years ago when it helped clear my head while falling asleep just thinking about the music in my head.

I can only sleep well under three conditions:

The room I am in has to be very cold. Usually, I try to keep my room colder than any other place in the house. I leave my window open a lot.

I also have to have a fan going to add some background noise and also add to the coolness.

I have to have a bedsheet under my blanket, so it acts as a thinner blanket under the heavy down blanket.

-I can't sleep at night without something to hug and without noise. I use a fan most of the time, because it's bloody hot here almost always.

-I don't do windows. I don't like being close to them when I don't have to be, I like when they are closed, and I NEVER go to sleep with my bedroom window open.

-I hum and sing and tap my fingers/pens/pencils and every other annoying thing you could possibly do to music. Let me add my voice is crazy and thank god you don't have to listen over the internet.

-I laugh for no reason. It pisses people off if they're trying to focus or be serious. I don't mean to laugh.

-I am big on manners. I get very angry very quickly if someone near me slurps their food or drink, chews with their mouth open, talks with their mouth food, uses their fingers when it isn't appropriate, burp in front of me (or do any other sort of bodily noise in front of me, for that matter), or anything along those lines. Seriously. I can get pretty bitchy with it.

-I have to crack my back a lot, and it drives some people mad. But I have to.. I hurt my back last year and ever since, either I crack it or it hurts. =\

Funny how this thread has strayed mostly to sleeping habits. Doesn't anyone else have any, er, "daytime" quirks?

(I do, I just...don't care to talk about them...)

Does anyone else find it hard (or impossible, even) to sleep with a warm pillow? I find myself frequently switching pillows (I have 2) or flipping my pillow over to find the coldest side--which has to be on the bottom. I sleep with my arms under my pillow, and if it's not cold (or at least below room temperature) under there, my whole body gets uncomfortable.

Oh, and the whole white noise thing applies to me as well. It's very hard for me to fall asleep without a fan or other source of "whooshing" sound sitting right next to my head (seriously, I have a small box fan sitting on my bed, wedged into the corner between the wall and nightstand). Somehow, it makes me feel less alone. I also have to have a small amount of light, since complete darkness freaks me out. Fortunately the orange light on the fan fulfills that requirement.

Well, when it comes to sleeping, when I was younger, I always had the light on, and had the radio on in the background turned down real low, just so I could barely hear it. I don't do that anymore.

Another thing is that my room also has to be cold. My window is almost always open. Only time I close it is during winter, if it gets to cold. This is why I hate warm summer nights..

I also have to pull the blanket thing all the way over my head, and will just leave a little hole for breathing.

And I have this special pillow my grandma made me. (Actually, she's made one for everyone in my family.) I always sleep best when I have that pillow. I also always need two pillows under that one.

I also switch sides way to often.

As for daytime things..

I don't like things pointing in my direction, such as scissors, knives, pens, remote controls, etc. I always have to make sure they don't point in my direction.

I tap my fingers.

I crack my toes, and sometimes my fingers.

I can't keep my feet still. I always have to move one of them, unless I'm really concentrating on something.

1. I don't like silence...so, I want music playing often (and is dislike of silence) probably has led to me thinking out loud

2. I think out loud...

3. I use Japanese filler words to fill in silence and to let the other person know I'm listening

4. I always wear at least two layers of shirt, but often three (undershirt, regular shirt, then a collared shirt...not sure how to describe that third shirt)

5. I hate being cold, so you'll often see me wearing something long sleeve

so uh...that's it for now

You wouldn't believe how complicated my sleeping setup is.

I -must- have it like this, or prefer it to be setup like this, if not, I can hardly sleep.

- Pitch black, except for one very tiny line or something (of light). Like a crack in the window.
- Several pillows, and pillows on the side where the wall is.
- Fan blowing. For the sound, and for the chill of air hitting me (must face me).
- Extra set of blankets, or pairs of clothes where my feet are. While sleeping in bed, I like extra heavier weight to be on my feet.

... it's comfortable.

-If I have a pen in my hand I compulsively doodle and draw random lines and patterns. I cannot stop myself, every page in every lecture notebook I have is packed with them.

-I am terrible at ending conversations, I am fairly certain I'm frequently perceived as quite rude for this.

-Can't sleep if I am even moderately warm, and related to this I don't ever sleep in a neatly made bed.

-I have an extremely good memory for trivia, pop culture quotes and song lyrics.

-I'm a compulsive joint-cracker... back, shoulders, neck, wrists, fingers, ankles, the works. It seriously worries me, it feels often like everything in my body is slightly out of alignment.

-I rarely write short and simple sentences, or sentences without subclauses.

-No musical training, don't play an instrument or anything, but I'm pretty sure I actualy have a decent voice and a good sense of pitch and tone and melody and so forth. When I sing along to songs I affect their accent and intonation wherever possible and it bugs me when people don't.

I also have to have one arm under my pillow.

The same as Tamarin Calanis. I can't sleep before 11 AM. But i can wake up at 6:30 without problems.

I also tend to switch sides way to often. Specially if the night is too warm

Now in the daytime:

the same thing that happens to LizardKing happens to me. If I'm too excited that something has been done well I also can't keep my feet still. Moreover: if something that i couldn't make work for a long time has worked, i tend to stand up and walk until the "sensation of success" gets past and then continue working (I must be a very pesimistic and unlucky guy for that )

I also crack my toes, and sometimes my fingers.

And I like when others see me playing imbnes, specially if some nes games are hacks made by members of this board

I crack my fingers reasonably often, and between sentences I tend to make this clicking noise that sounds an awful lot like the "start navigation" sound from IE. *click!* I also collect catgirl pictures.
