linky.

another linky.

I heard this earlier on Fox News.. wanted to look it up for myself. He wants to run for Presidency by changing the Constitution's rule of being an American citizen that was born here..

I don't know what to think of this. As if being governor of CA wasn't enough... and the scary thing is, he might win the same way he won the governor elections. Popularity.

So, discuss.

I dont think the rule should be changed and I definitely dont think he should be president. If it somehow happened, I would seriously move to Mexico or something. Not only did he win the election because of popularity, he runs the state with his popularity. He constantly uses movie lines in things he does. "I will terminate high taxes." It ridiculous.

I would move to Canada... Seriously that would be the worst thing to ever happen. Your better off putting Hitler in as president. This pisses me off!

Sometimes I wonder if you kids even know anything about WWII, the Third Reich, and Hitler himself other than just their names. Seriously, what kind of comment was that?

"He wants to run for Presidency by changing the Constitution's rule of being an American citizen that was born here."

This will never pass. Ever.

And really, the reason people have a problem with him in politics is not because of how he handle's the job, it's soley due to the fact that he's, well, a celebrity. His celebrity status does not render him incapable of being a politician.

EDIT: Wow, I need to brush up on my constitutional knowledge.

Note, I don't know what kind of a job he's doing in California as I don't pay much attention to that state. But that's not the issue I'm discussing here.

That's what he's trying to change. If you've been a citizen x amount of years, you're eligable for presidency. He's been here since '83, so... who knows.

From what I hear, he sucks at being governor here. He made a ton of promises and hasn't followed through with any of them. He's taking money from the schools for whatever he wants it for. I can't think of anyone I know that's happy he is governor... president will only be worse.

But he's gotta change the constitution first, so good luck with that Ahnold.

The only people who really love him being governator are the immigrants. They believe he is going to make America more friendly to immigrants and make it easier on them, which to me is a horrible idea. It is easy enough for them. They dont even have to know english to live here. I'll stop ranting.

"What does an actor know about politics?" -President (And former actor) Ronald Reagan, generally regarded as the driving force behind ending the Cold War (Amongst other things).

So yeah, just because he's a celebrity doesn't mean he can't do the job, and do it well at that.

Note that, like Legion, I haven't followed the job he's done in California. His ability as a politician has nothing to do with his ability as an actor, however.

Fewer people than I'd like to admit. Statements like that are idiotic, and people need to educate themselves with issues and "real life" beforehand.

There's also something else to consider. Far too many people judge who they will vote for just by that little sticker of what party they follow. That only displays how shallow and narrowminded people can be.

"He wants to run for Presidency by changing the Constitution's rule of being an American citizen that was born here."

Agreed. If the current president hasn't been able to ammend the constitution for x reason, no way in hell someone else will be able to pull it off.

No, his celebrity status renders him a target for naysayers and those that don't want him to succeed just for the sake of arguing...

Well, it was only a matter of time, now wasn't it? I really can't judge how well he does his job, so I couldn't say how good he'd do as president.

If you seen the stuff he has done lately, there is legit reason to dread the idea of him running for president. For much of the past year, Schwarzenegger has not made progress on anything. Very little I can think of he has been praised for. The argument that he is a celebrity is reason for naysaying I think no longer applies because hes been in power for a year and a half... so by now, critics are no longer judging him by that anymore...

but anyways, the constitution has only been changed 13 times since it's ratification... (doesn't include two amendments that nullified each other, the first 10 were the bill of rights, and the 13th, 14th amendment which were passed during the civil war (with the nation being half of its size) so yeah...convinving 66% of congress and 75% of states to do this...

It seems odd that we don't let non-American born people run for president when the USA is so welcoming to imigrants and relaxed border laws. I suppose the children of the imigrants could run, seeing if they were born here. I suppose it balances out some how.

Schwarzenegger would actually be a decent choice, compared to our last couple presidents and runner-ups.

If his parents were from another country and if he was born in the US, then he could run for president. You can't just change the constitution just for that. Its part of a rule. Tough luck Arnold.

He wasn't born in the US, born and raised in Austria. I thought that was a well known fact... =\

I also wasn't aware of the progress of his current tenure. Guess that's what happens when I don't keep up on the news. Oh well.
