Over the past 2 weeks I've been trying to improve my skills with YY-CHr learning to trust MS Paint which I trully hate and come up with brand new cusswords when ms paint screws something up and last I'm starting to get the hang of HEX editing. I have 2 questions I need to ask If I wanted to change mega man x's palette from blue to red is there someway I can do this with hex editing and not with snes palette tool ? if so is there a website that I could find that would have a list of hex addresses and good explanation on how to go about doing this ? 2. I am currently working on hacking SMW and Super Metroid and I might try hacking SMB1 I noticed alot of you that hack the livin daylights out of old school games with hex and manage to get alot of special effects and tricks in your hack is there a good guide here and list of hex addresses for certain games ? say like SMB1,2,3 doki doki, Metroid 1 Super Metroid 3 and some others that you might think I should try screwin around with ? sorry about the long post, but I am just trying to improve my skills instead relying on level editor which can sometimes limit you with what you can do with roms. |

1) Of course there is a way to change pallets with a hex editor. You just need to find the right offset(s) and how to change them. Judging by your current skill, its probably easier to just do it how you are currently doing it. Keep learning though. 2) Yeah, there are probably some good resources for stuff like this. Check the SMW hacking boards. As for cool effects, those are usually done through assembly which is probably far beyond your current ability. There are some good basic tutorials out there that walk you through it which you would probably find very informative. I dont have a link, but again, check the SMW boards. Good luck. |
