So yeah I'm bored at the moment with Rom hacking news... so I thought I'd design a poll to see what different types of people rom hack. I expect to see a lot of middle class white males, but you never know who does this crazy rom hack thing.

This is not meant to stir up controversy over political correctness. If you have a severe problem with this poll please PM me first and I will talk it over with you.

Well, me being Latino / Hispanic raised in a ghetto in New York, one of the ways I used to tune out the world was watching alotta T.V. and playing alotta Nes games. Me & my friends (in the 80's) we used to also draw our own levels on paper of some classic Nes games. We went through alotta bad times, but now were middle class.

So in conclusion - Soy una persona loca, torcida e insana que como a corte de la ROM.

looks like im the standard (not ganna say specifically) I will say that I was raised raised with the gang envourment also. But I actually spent most of my time programming and trying to design games than gangbanging, so I got out of that stuff. I would rather hack asm code or play some good old mario

Googie is right though, I have meet all sorts of rom hackers from different ethnic orientation. Anybody could get addicted to the crazy things we do hehe

I'm white but I'm living in a ghetto in Limburg, the hood I live in (Hoefkamp) is known for the most drug-import-export and high criminality rate. I love my hood. :'( So yeah, I'm more of a gangbanger than computer dude.

I'm white, I'm in the middle class, living in a grey house, I'm a boy. Seems like most ROM hackers are like that so far.

I'm just as everyone else around here, apart from that I ROM hack, of course.

Agreed but I don't live in a grey house. I live in a brick house that is pink.

I would'nt mind a pink house fabio, just as long as I never went outside to see how it looks

I voted for:

:: White / Caucasian
:: Middle Class
:: Male

I'm quite sure my answers are right for the first and last ones As for upper / middle / lower class, I have no idea what my family would fit into Looking at what dictionary.com has to say about the certain definition for that word, I'd say "middle" is the best choice to make right now.

For whatever reason, I've yet to meet another ROM hacker without using the internet There was one of my friends in high school that was into programming and that sort of stuff, but last I knew, he never even touched a ROM

Pretty much the standard-issue answers (see Karadur). Although I'd be interested to see the age breakdown too. Imagine that people like myself and Googie are the exception and that it'd skew younger.

Thats why you can check more than one if you think it's border line. I am mainly referring to economic status, but again that is sort of subjective. I could have put dollar amounts and income ranges as a guide, but then again that would have been based on my subjective evaluations of class, now wouldn't it? Cost of living must be factored in. I could be making $50,000 a year in Hawaii, but I heard their cost of living is twice as high, so are they doing as well as someone who makes $25,000 a year in a rural town in Iowa? Who knows.

I voted for middle class since I have the life that most people here in Japan my age have, but by world standards I'm upper class (as are we all, probably, since we have computers), and by US standards I'm probably lower.

Age would have been an interesting question. You'd think that the people hacking 8-bit games in particular would be over 30, considering that the games themselves are close to 20 years old, but everyone here seems to be younger. Who's the oldest Acmlm regular? (And be honest; some of those listed birthdays can't be trusted!)

I am a middle class white male. That surprises some people online because Kario seems like a unisex name apparently? Anwyay, yeah, white male.

That's OK, Googie; I'm not yet 30 (quarter of a century for me), but people here think I'm 35 or so! It's that Caucasian blood I have in me. Either that or I'm more emotionally mature than Japanese in their 20s.

Actually, I was hacking roms before I had the internet. Taking library trips with floppy disks to get roms and reading documents and such. But that at least 6 years ago, so .

Anyways, White, lower class, male. You should've put drug user/non drug user up there. Just to see who gets tripped out to make their hacks and who doesn't.

edit: Oh. and here's how you can tell what living class you're in.

Lower class: Your family barely has money to live on, you can never buy what you want unless you get a job, and your fridge is mostly empty.

Middle class: Your fridge usually has food. Your family is somewhat well-off, but not enough money to buy everything they want, and the bills may still be tight.

High class: You don't just have a fridge, you have a mini-fridge in every room. You have more than enough money to get what you want. You have to bribe girls to go out with you.

I always thought that this was one of the fundamental rules of adulthood, not a sign that you're lower class.
