Being a member - an officer - in the local Catholic youth group, I'd urge you not to make such an assumption. Shamefully, many of the youths who attend are there for the companionship, the outings, the occasional free dinner...the list goes on. Nothing is wrong with any of those; in fact, they're what makes the youth group fun. But I'd wager that the kids who go there for the religious aspect compose a minority. I'm not sure how it is in your area, but I've made such an observation after being an active member here for many years.

Don't try to sound incredulous; if you didn't realize that a 'Satan Rules' shirt is asking for trouble, there's something wrong. Regardless of the "freedoms" that religious kids get.

Furthermore, the whole idea of religious rock music disgusts me. I've been to my share of retreats where entertainment centers around the new age, feel-good music with accompanying dance moves. It sends the wrong message to prospective believers. Being a Christian shouldn't be perpetual happy-fun-time where everyone dances around like a jackass and sings stupid songs. I'll take private worship any day.

And another thing, as long as I'm on the topic: I can't stand it when religious folks wear 'WWJD?' tee-shirts, don crucifixes visibly and prominently, or make similar displays. Flaunting one's piety in such a way is criticized in the entirety of Matthew 6:1-6. Wear a crucifix, certainly, but don't think of it as jewelry to be put on display; tuck it beneath your shirt, your very own 'WWJD?' reminder that nobody else needs to know about.

I, as a demi-Catholic, am a member of a youth group. I really don't take it too seriously...I go there for the religious aspects to understand why people are so set on forceably converting their friends. Most of the people there are zealots who are there for the religious purposes as opposed to the free giveaways and the like. But perhaps the population in my area is a minority in the fact that the piousness seen is profound.

"Don't try to sound incredulous; if you didn't realize that a 'Satan Rules' shirt is asking for trouble, there's something wrong. Regardless of the "freedoms" that religious kids get."

Perhaps I should expand on the 'freedoms' that the religious kids get. First off, the Christians at my school are given the full rights to make announcements. The last time the Hindus tried to announce the one of their holidays, the office told them no. I'm not saying Christmas and the like. These are tiny little things like the Coronotion of this or that Saint. They are given the ability to create funded clubs in which they are allowed to recruit for their ideologies. The Latin classes at my school (of which I am a very avid member) is not even given permission to seek new recruits. The Christmas specials are started with a line 'if you do not feel like praying, leave the hall'. Such are the "freedoms" given to the kids at my school.

Also, I should clarify on the shirt. The shirt in and of itself is for a band. A local one that plays rap-metal. It was done on a computer with Satan drawn in paint. He is done all funny like and there is nothing offensive whatsoever on the shirt. Which is more offensive my friend, a shirt saying 'Worship the best or die like the rest' with a picture of a cross imposed over cresent moon (this particular person is quite flamboyantly anti-Muslim) or a shirt done in paint? I also know many people that have gotten in trouble for wearing shirts that promote Hinduism. Basically if you aren't Christian, you're in for trouble. Perhaps that is a major problem in and of itself. And as another thing...I see no inherent problems with wearing a shirt or symbol devoted to any God or divinity. In Canada, we're given rights allowing us to worship anyway we see fit, and as such, people who are promoting their faiths through their garb should be allowed to promote any faith.

I too find the whole idea of flaunting faith stupid. That's generally why I don't flaunt my religion around. But really, you can't stop people from doing what they want to, if it is within the law.

If your story's true, your school follows illogical and unjust policies. I don't see how any government-funded body is able to get away with what you claim. It's a shame that you must attend such a school .

I'm appalled that so many Christians take it upon themselves to commit hateful acts in the name of "defending the faith." Spreading God's word can be done without attacking Allah's, if you get what I'm saying. Christian hatemongers are Christian in name only.

Foxnews seems down...

Anyway, this will give christianity a bad image. Sure Easter have diffrent purpose than before but...

Here people would react if you did wear that shirt here, but people would also react on shirts with crosses...

Edit: Foxnews is up again. All I have to say is... WTF? That was just disturbing...

You don't know that Heaven or Hell exists it's just your belief. It's nice to believe that there is life after death, makes it less scary.

I don't like religeous topics. They all end in flame wars, and this is where it's going to end. So I'll stay on the current topic that Phil made.

Damn. God-fucking-damn. If they think that a show that is filled to the brim with violence and S&M is okay for kids, they need to rethink their values.

Ziff has a point; it's obviously not a 'satanic' shirt that he's wearing. Someone else that's an extremist wearing a shirt like the Cross-Moon shirt should not be allowed to wear it.

And on a last note: Ziff is Canadian.

Is it just me, or is the fact that that's a "top story" more disturbing than the actual news itself?
