I decided to use the oh so awesome Met-map hack by parasyte. I've spent time customizing the map to my preferences (which is going well) The problem I have run into is how reveiling this map is. Many secrets which I spent time thinking up are shown making them pointless. What I'm asking is how hard would it be to make some rooms not appear on the map. I do remember Parasyte mentioning that horizontal and vertical rooms could be shown and I figured this wouldn't be much different. Any help thanks in advance. EDIT- I've already PM'd parasyte about this. got no answer yet though... (edited by Dude Man on 08-05-05 04:25 PM) |

You have the ASM code, right? I'm not totally certain how Metroid works, but you could probably just add something to force certain rooms not to show up, depending on the room number, X/Y location, or whatever else you could use to determine what room you're in. Some sort of room type byte, if it exists, would be especially useful here.

what I'm assuming I'd have to do is give certain rooms the same graphics as empty spaces. These "secret" rooms will only be used as secrets. |

http://www.cgi101.com/~jman2050/metmap.zip An update I made quite some time ago. Do what you want with it. It displays a 5x3 map, with difference in horizontal and vertical rooms (it makes up the map as it goes, and whether the room is horz or vertical is determined by the scroll value when the room is entered. Or something like that, I forgot. Note: patch the IPS on a clean Metroid file. There are some new gfx in there somewhere that's neccesary for it to work correctly. I basically forgot most of the details, btu I think this will be helpful to integrate into your code |

I believe the ips was only for the gfx changes. You still have to assemble the source files provided and input them yourself... at least I think so.

nope, no graphics changes... this is the same ips as the regular one. There are no other ips files... however there is a Met-map2 asm file for notepad. Did you forget to add your ips? |
