Hello, Im currently thinking of making a genesis and a saturn combined so the saturn can play Genesis games. However, I am running into a few problems, please help if possible.

1.Does the 6 button Saturn controller have the same layout of the 6 button Genesis?

2. Would the power overload by having two systems turn on through the same adaptor? If so is there any way to get around this?

Thanks in advance

1. From what I remember, they were very close. The 6-button Genesis controller was way more comfy than the Saturn controller, but for the "insides" of the controllers, I have no idea if they're similar. But it had a Turbo button, which a Saturn controller doesn't last I remember.

2. Wish I could say, could be dangerous though.

I don't know much about electronics but I think that it wouldn't overload if you made only one system work at a time, I don't see how you'd get both systems running at the exact same time even in one combined machine, unless you pull some kind of split screen dealie that loads every other scanline to make it half as tall and then swap the system that is outputting video and then do that every other scanline, but I don't think you are doing that, unless you are trying to play two versions of Sonic via Sonic Jam and the Genesis.

I'd have to pretty much say that if you don't know the answers to those questions yourself, you would find it very hard to undertake such a task. Custom console building often involves lots of soldering, improvising with electronics and requires a lot of skill. These sort of activities are usually done by experienced computer technicians or case modders who have too much free time.

You're...kidding, right? Okay, look. If you wanted to combine the two systems magicly, you've already bitten off more than you've shown you can chew. I hope you know that those two sepearte systems, more than likely, have two diffrent processors, as well as many of the other chips that make it tick. You plan to wire these all onto one motherboard, and somehow have a universal cartridge slot, while allowing each of these to funtion individualy while not causing interfearance with other such hardware, and your biggest concern is the ADAPTER? Good luck, my friend. That's all I have to tell you.

Good luck with doing that... Maybe start with a smaller project like making a portable Nintendo 64. Combining 2 systems sounds like no easy task...

Combining systems is hard as all hell. I've seen it done very, very rarely. In fact, I know it has been done, but I can't remember any specific examples.

If you want to learn more about the systems you're going to have to take a few months reading on the net and screwing around with "miniturization" as well as modifications, etc. Plenty of things.

The Saturn conrtoller also has the L and R buttons on it, the 6 button Megadrive one does not

It sounds like a tall order though.

Good luck!

I asked him. He wants to put both mother boards and both cartridge slots in one case. While having them both use the same controller.

He wanted to do this with me and has already figured out how to fit both mother boards in one "custom" case and through the help of friends has figured out how to combine the powers to use one AC adapter.

He goes to my school so ...

I wish you luck, and please post pictures of your progress.

I have an empty NES laying around, and wanted to have a disk system only system in it (a Famicom Board with a RAM Cartridge fixed to the cartridge slot, and the disks load through the front door of the NES, no Cartrdigeslot anymore)
