The one thing that bugs me about Mac is how I can't use old programs anymore. Classic mode refuses to work for some reason.
Also, because this Mac is a bit old, everything runs slowly on 10.3. I can't stand it. But that's just my computer, not the Mac. If I had the money for the new stuff I'm sure I'd love it.

As everyone else said, compatability is annoying. I really wish I could ZSNES netplay. I've only done it once at a friend's house, and it was so great.

I do plan to use Macs in the future.. hopefully better than the computer I have. I've used VirtualPC, which works really well as a PC emulator. You can even go online with it. The only problem is how slow my comp is, so it's really not worth it.. but if I got a more powerful Mac, maybe I could get the best of both worlds that way.

Woo.

I must say that those Apple 30 inch monitors are quite amazing. The only other issue I have with macs is that there is no scroll wheel on apple mice, but hey, I guess I'd get used to it.

Or you can just use your favorite X86 PC mouse. Which I maybe wind up using heh. :/

Heh, it's either Linux or Macintosh for me in the future. I'm honestly sick of Microsoft, and Longhorn... or Windows vista it's called now is crap so far. And anything innovating, was made on Mac OS X and/or Linux since years. ~_~

I was contemplating getting a mac mini, but after Apple announced they are switching to x86, I think I'll wait for that.

RIGHT CLICKING! SCROLLING! WE'RE SAVED!

Seriously, not having right click is a really big thing I didn't like about the older mice. The non-scrolling was even worse.

It's not as good looking as the glassy looks of the older iMac mice, but it'll be a hell of a lot more practical. <3 <3 <3

Personally I don't think I'd ever get used to the Close button being on the left.

I don't really like Mac.

Then again, I don't like Windows.

Once I recieve my Ubuntu CDs (my new ones, that is), I'm buying a new computer (I'm not paying $200-$300 to get a fucking Windows CD).

...

On topic, I've always bad experiences with Mac (one day, it even refused to find the HDD after I rebooted. Wtf?)

Ubuntu was ok, but it completely lacked style. As with most linux distros, the creators fail to realise that functionality isn't everything. This isn't just with distros, either. Most programs that run on linux are drop-dead-boring as well.

This is why I wanted to run MSN Messenger, AIM and ITunes using WINE. Any equivilant on linux is so incredibly lame. Of course, MSN and ITunes didn't run with WINE. Face it, Linux isn't as advanced as it's cracked up to be... yet.

I'm going to agree and say that very few Linux distros have style...

However I'm surprised that you'd want to run the official AIM and MSN clients over GAIM. GAIM tends to have it's own style, and functionality

Oh well, when you become a Mac user, I hope to see you become an Adium fangirl like I am

GAIM is ok, but I tend to be very unwilling to switch applications that I use often. I was a bit confused with the decision to make instant messaging tabbed. It seems very bewildering to have to scroll through the tabs for a message every time, by default (of course you don't have to use tabs).

It's a shame that WINE does not like to support some of the most popular windows software. iTunes refuses to install outright because it can detect the OS. Until WINE supports real programs realy people use, it will remain a one-trick pony.

The most frustrating thing about Linux distros is that the developers have all the creative freedom in the world to make something that could even eclipse OS X in terms of functionality, design and uniqueness, yet they all opt to build an army of clones that all look and feel the same. It's almost as if it's stuck in a time warp, because the developers dislike new and exciting shell designs, that they like their OSs boring and bland because that's how they used to be in the good old days.

I find GAIM to be a rather good replacement for AIM/MSN/YIM. And if that's not enough, I also think there is a linux port of Trillian too.

Linux is cool as long you configure stuff yourself, it's very configurable and also means that it's far from being user-friendly.

And Wine supports most of the popular Windows software, just not everything but it's steadily in devolopment. I can see MSN running as long you can get it working with a fake install of IE.

And oh, might mention that AIM is the worst crapware I seen on earth. I hate AIM. It's lame, it's outdated (for gods sake, it installs into a folder with the name Aim95), it's bloated, it's full with ads...

I just had to complain on something... for no reason at all. <-<

Linux have made some impressing stuff user-friendly wise in the last few years, but there is a still long way to go.

My biggest gripe with linux is the lack of iTunes. I don't know, a lot of my friends like to use windows media and winamp, but I just think that iTunes is the best player out there, except for the amount of memory it uses up, but hey, that's why you get a gig of ram.

Heh, it's not like I really use MSN *has 32 people on his contact list, 25 of them are blocked.* And I don't use iTune (when I installed it.... ugh).

And for media, I could always get VLC or something.

I actually use iTunes. And while it's a decent player, I just use it for sorting my collection and uploading stuff to my sisters iPod. I still use Winamp as my main player.

iTunes don't support Winamp plugin, and probably never will.

with the exception of mainstream games, any mainstream program on windows has a mac equivalent -- it is the independent programs you don't find on a mac; but virtual PC would be sufficient for majority of them

as for DirectX...OpenGL owns DirectX
