That'd be because they don't TYPE it.

When I say it I don't even pronounce the ne. It's just dialect, the grammar says you should say ne.

They forced me to take French in grade school, but I just goofed off. Teach me a language I'm ever going to use maybe? Japanese, Spanish, Portugese, now those are useful to me.

Well I'm not a native, but I've heard this "fact" so much in movies straight from France, and from years of interacting with French natives, but yeah I'm sure not everyone does it. Different people will have different levels of formality and annunciation in their speech. Were you born in France or were you born in Canada, b/c your profile says you're from Canada. I'm not assuming to know about Canadian dialects.
