I'm not really "shy", I just choose not to talk 90% of the time. If anyone wants to talk to me, I'll talk. Most of the time, no one has anything to say to me. I just sit in the corner for a bit staring at people and giving them the brow.

Yes, in real life I can get pretty shy... I NEVER want to meet new people, and I hate social events.

Online, thats obviously a different story, for I can be anything I want

I'm not shy when it comes to being in a group... maybe a bit more shy when in a one-on-one convo with someone I really don't know.

And that's why I'm still single.

Yeah that's pretty much me.

I'm even like that online, I don't know why, I even know people online can't harm me or anything... meh, I guess it sort of explains my low post count here. I'm always extremely shy around places I haven't gotten 100% used to.

I usually don't speak unless I have something to say. This goes more for instant means of communication- face-to-face, phone, and IM, than for message boards.

People respect me because when I get talking, even if I'm wrong, I know enough to get my way out of the hole I just dug for myself

I'm shy around girls, but that's it. And that's only if I really like them or if it 1 on 1 in an awkward locale.

I'm very shy. I hate it! I've posted and edited alot in the lonely hearts thread in the Officer's section. It badly needs a bump.

My shyness is a curse, yet it can be good. The girl I'm interested in thinks I'm cute because of it. I just hate having to talk to her on MSN though... It's always so much better in person.

Be sure to read my post... You'll see how shy I really am... I think I love this girl, hey?

I used to be, in my current opinion, extremely shy. Even now, if you were to meet and try to talk to me in person, I'd be a bit shy until I actually realized I knew you from somewhere else I'd much prefer talking via the internet on a message board like this, than person to person, but the latter isn't too big a deal right now

In all, I've been becoming less and less shy as I've gotten older, and I can't see that changing any time soon

Edit: In case it matters to anyone, I voted "Sorta Shy".

I know some people in the city I live by the internet - we meet regularly (next meeting occurs this Friday and Saturday ); and it sounds funny now:

I just am shy when it comes to ... instant messengers
It's just these lines which contain no emotion (an "XD" is just a small excuse) - as long I have the possibility to get to that person (like a vacation for example), I would alyways prefer the direct contact with him/her. On the other hand there are people living in the US - where this is not that possible that easily.
There only remain smilies for emotiocons - and I use these only on AcmlmBoards, because it is the only board I know which has quite good ones.

I'm 24 years old now, I don't talk about myself too much, but although I'm a shy person, I have no problems talking to people in a bus - like if they have a dog and that one ... licks my hand and the owner is grinning, I have to grin back and maybe starting a conversation (well, I usually dislike dogs ... but it's just funny if an animal comes to you, though you usually dislike it ) - just on bigger parties I feel lost; so that's the reason I avoid them and always like smaller "feasts" more - with the friends I usually hang around anyway.

I think the majority of us posting here is somehow shy - the internet allows you to exchange feeling text-wise, there is no rating on social status or the outer appearance - so the people actually even have a chance to be noticed; and you might also get friends, especially if they live in the same city (before they might judge you from the appearance _only_).

I'm actually really proud of the results, good to have honest people... some people think being shy is somethin to be ashamed of, but really, it's sometimes somethin to be proud of - keeps you out of troubles, gets you doing productive stuff, lots of reasons.

Er.. being shy has more disadvantages, I think. You could be an open person and avoid trouble.
It's easier to be honest on the internet.

I'm the shyiest person you'll ever face outside the internet. I only talk while around friends I know, at home or if I'm being talked to. Otherwise I will not talk for nothing. Don't ask why it's just the way I am. Except while online I'll talk on forums, over IM, email, and on rp sites all the time.

Agreed 100%. It sucks. A lot. Shy people are the type that end up bagging groceries for the rest of their lives simply because they don't have enough persuasive skills to get any other job. You have to be social, outgoing, and likable to get anywhere in the world. Nobody will hire a person that can't work well with other people over someone who can. Being shy doesn't just hurt you in the business world, it hurts in almost every area of life. Dating, for instance. The saying "Nice guys finish last" should become "Shy guys finish last", because shyness/outgoingness is the #1 thing that determines your chances there(well, for guys at least. Shy girls still get picked up. For women it's attractiveness).

If there's one thing I hate about my personality, it's my timidness. Severely shy people like me will be in deep shit later in life, and that's not something I'm looking forward to.

Well it also depends on HOW shy you are
If your TOO shy, than it's probably a problem.

Shyness is something everyone overcomes eventually. When you get your first job you learn to deal with people, when you fall in love you learn to open up a little, it all gets better.
You can't be shy your whole life.

I'm really shy. My hands get kind of sweaty sometimes. Quite embarrasing.....
Only places where i'm completely comfortable (home), I'm cool.
I'm quiet most of the time unless someone asks me a question or something. I tend to talk more over msn than in person.

I have noticed my shyness begining to slowly go away ever since i started uni. last sept. I'll be 19 in oct. (yay!) and it will be my second year of uni. I guess with time this shy stuff will pass.

Its like what danielle said, its something you overcome eventually.

Yeah, there will be situations in life that will open you up or that will force you to overcome it. I've yet to hit any of those obstacles so I'm still in my little shy state but hopefully I'll get over it soon enough.

I sure hope to god that'll be true for me. Because I happen to know of somebody who's 30 and still very shy to this day. Still all the conditions I listed above. Still not advancing in the career world. Still never had a girlfriend. Still lives in fair reclusiveness. In fact, from what I was told, his situation was exactly like mine while in high school. So I've got a good reason to worry.
