| My girlfriend's mum is the same. She spouts abuse in her own home because she's "allowed to". She also manages to justify homophobia because the "bible says it's ok to hate gays". Seriously, people need to be more enlightened these days. Racism and prejudice cannot and must not be justified. "The bible says it's ok" and "I have free speech, don't I?" and "it's not natural" are among the weakest of excuses for hatred. Take the situation in Northern Ireland. There are some young people there who just use the divide between Catholic and Protestant communities to justify violence. They probably don't even know what caused the rift, or the history between the divide and why we don't have that divide in Great Britain. There are some people who will start a riot just because they have that excuse, and it shouldn't be allowed to continue. | Racism is probably still as common as it was 50-60 years ago, it's just that most people will not admit it as it's not politically correct. The main problem is how most of us grow up separated from different ethnical groups, which just adds to the "us and them" issue. | |||

| Also, racism is prevalent in the British working-class. The Tories and BNP exploit the shit out of the conditions of industrial cities that have been on an economic slump since the 70s by using that anger. Alot of the anger gets channeled into blaming the situation on someone...anyone. And that generally becomes racism. Liverpool, where this happened, is noteable for its great class rift and this is the act of the British working class. The area where it happened is very...dingy...shall I say? And also Liverpool itself is the portrait of a saddened industrial town. Xeo - People have been stupid through the ages.
