What do you mean you don't need a permit at 18? I am 18 years old. Was that just a joke. I have two more chances to pass the permit test.

Either it's only a California thing, I'm very wrong, or.. I'm right.
I *think* that if you're 18, you can get your license by simply doing the driving test. I could be misinformed, YD might be right, you should look into it.
But um.. if you can't even pass the permit test, you're not ready for the road test. There's a reason you need to know the rules.

I really don't know. If I came up with that idea on my own, then I should be shot.

Yeah..I thought that when you're 18 you could get your license but I had a friend who first got a permit even though she's 18 because she had to learn how to drive then take the drivers test whenever she wanted.

I barely passed my permit test. I got 7 questions wrong which was the exact limit I believe. Some of the questions are common sense but there were a few ones that made me like . It wasn't that long ago I had to take that permit test too..

I dunno how this permit stuff works... Here you have to take one test for a level 1 license, which is pretty useless (you can drive if you have someone with a full license with you). Then you wait a year (or 8 months if you take classes) and can try for a level 2, which is almost full except you can't drink at all and I think there's some restrictions of what highways you can use. Then anytime within 5 years of that you can go for the full license. There's a test for each, but level 1 is just a simple written test; 2 and 3 are road tests (and I think a small written portion). You can start at age 16. It's expensive and slow, but it does seem to work; there's not a whole lot of bad drivers around here. (Though nobody knows how to signal. )

How do you fail that shit? 95% of that shit is common sense, and the other 5% you can memorize quickly. Oh well. Study up, I guess.

Its a simple system around here.

You are 15 1/2, go to the DMV and apply for a permit. You take a test, you pass, and you pay for the permit. You drive for 40 hours and take drivers Ed, and at 16 and 3 months you can get your liscense

16 and 3 months?
Here, you can take driver's ed at 15, can get your permit at 15 1/2, do 50 hours of driving which isn't even enforced (I never turned in that paper, nor did I fill it out at all! ), and then license at 16.

Same exact thing here in Ohio.

Yeah, you're supposed to have however much experience here too, but there's no way for them to know if you really do.

Tests vary from place to place. Most of mine was stuff from the book, and it's a big book.

Don't you need Drivers training after Drivers ed then the license at 16? Well I had to take it but if you're 17 1/2 you don't have to and you can just get your license..well here in California..Eh I didn't get the license at 16 anyway. I didn't ahve the money for Drivers training..

Driver's training was part of driver's ed for me..
You couldn't get the certificate until you did 3 sessions of driving for 2 hours with an instructor, one of the people that also taught the driver's ed. I thought that's how it is for everyone.
17 1/2 you can get your license without a permit? Well then, go for it Bush Hater.

No!
When you're 17 1/2, you can get the permit without driver's ed. But you always need a permit no matter what your age. They're not going to give you a license if you don't know the rules of the road.
