Who gets to name the planet anyways? Following trends, it will probably be named after another Roman God/Goddess. Its funny really, we can see into the vast reaches of space far beyond our own solar system, but we couldnt find this planet IN our solar system (Somewhat) until now |

Colleen: It is, same people and everything. And re-reading the article Leg posted, I can't believe I missed this: "There's absolutely no doubt that the star in front has a planet, which caused the deviation we saw," said Andrew Gould, of Ohio State University, US. |

I need a really good telescope so I can see it, it said the planet was suposed to be in the middle of the sky. I live in PA, so I'm not far.

Ummm..I heard that the budget for NASA is only 1%. Maybe that's why they're slow for the times? |

NSNick: Really? Then I'm surprised at how there was such a large time gap between that announcement and this one, which is much more mainstream.

"No definition for 'planet' Brian Marsden, who runs the Minor Planet Center where data on objects like this are collected, says that if Pluto is a planet, then other round objects nearly as large as Pluto ought to be called planets. On that logic, 2003 UB313 would perhaps be a planet, but it would have to get in line behind a handful of others that were discovered previously. "I would not call it the 10th planet," Marsden told SPACE.com." Okay, so they don |

There's two bitter replies I could make to this. Either mock the people who are saying "TEHY SHLD NAME IT AFTR ME LOL : Oh no, people, I'm better than that. Instead, I'll just debate the topic of whether or not Pluto is a planet, just to make you all disappointed. Ha ha. A few ways of telling if a planet is a, well, planet: - Has a large mass to it, unlike small ones of asteroids and such. - Has at least one moon (which is why Pluto is still considered a planet). - Has an established orbit around a star. - Life. Personally, I think the combination of the first and third categories should really be used to determine if it is an official "planet". Like, let's say the diameter of the celestial object is 6000 Km (I'm using metric because I feel like being a commie). Now, if we had a set categorization chart saying that all celestial objects over 5000 Km was a planet, then yeah, it's considered a planet. However, we also need to factor in other things too, because any random object floating around in the midst of space erratically is not really going to be called a planet. Thus, the established orbit. ..which is also why I want NASA to get a damn classification chart for planets, already. |

Snika, why don't you send a letter to Congress asking them to take NASA out of the budget completely, mmk? NASA has done a lot of things for us, so of course it is going to get a good amount of funding. I too think they are being overfunded right now, but I certainly don't think they are wasting their time. It's more like, they are being given too much money at a time when we need that 20% boost they have gotten in the last 3 years in other places more than NASA. But yea, I'm sure some humans are thinking millions of years in advance, and if future generations want any hope of ever improving technology enough to go anywhere else just to save ourselves, then they are going to have to take on some tasks that some people like you find completely useless so that more and more can be learned and the ultimate goal can be accomplished. What is the ultimate goal? Yea, hell if I know. Ask them. |
