It's more like, they are being given too much money at a time when we need that 20% boost they have gotten in the last 3 years in other places more than NASA. But yea, I'm sure some humans are thinking millions of years in advance, and if future generations want any hope of ever improving technology enough to go anywhere else just to save ourselves, then they are going to have to take on some tasks that some people like you find completely useless so that more and more can be learned and the ultimate goal can be accomplished. What is the ultimate goal? Yea, hell if I know.
