| I didnt know whether to put this here or in the Officers Club. My cd burner occasionally will start burning a CD, then eject it saying "Make sure the disc is clean and not damaged and try again." When it says that, it means it just fucked up the disc. It is no longer a CD-R, but a blank CD. Completely useless. I think that Toshiba (the company that made the writer) should have to reimburse people when stuff like that happens, and it has always done that. Arrrrrrrrrrrrgggggggggggggggggg | |||

| What model is your CD writer ? How old is that burner ? Did you try another brands of CDs to burn already ? Do you use (whyever, it is not recommended at all) CDs where you put on your own label to burn ? Does the writer run properlay in UDMA mode and not in the slow an very unreliable PIO mode ? Well, you didn't provide any info about your model  |

| Its a Toshiba DVD+CDR Combo, its about 2 years old. Its odd, it doesnt work with Fujifilm or Phillips cds, but it works with Maxell and Sony. I have burned on Phillips and Fuijifilm Cds before, but 2 out of 3 times it screws the CD up. BTW, I dont know what UDMA or PIO mode is. |

| What software are you using to burn it? Also... make sure you're not burning it too fast. I've noticed that sometimes, even if the disc and burner are labelled for speeds such as 48x, the maximum you could actually do is something lower like 16x or 24x. Takes a bit of trial-and-error to learn what the limits should be that you set. |

Then look your your IDE/(S)ATA Controller entry, expand the tree and get the proper channel your writer is plugged into (usually there is Primary Master, Primary Slave and Secondary Master, Secondary Slave) - check the advanced settings there, there you see is something is using (U)DMA or PIO. PIO ist just damn slow and only enables to set the transfer rates by Windows; if you burn CDs using PIO mode, you mostly will get long burning times and very often write errors. In Windows 9x and ME the Hardware Manager is located in the top tab when you click on "System" in your Control Panel already. |

| also, some media isn't compatible with the drive at all. I know my DVD+/-R burner is very picky about what DVD-R medias it gets. It has never had trouble with any DVD+R discs though... |
