| I am new to the world of rom hacking, and my first project will be editing sprites on a pokemon game (advance generation). I hope to one day get to the point where I can edit enough where it will be a completely different game in most respects. My question is, what kind of skills will I need to develop in order to accomplish this (besides making and editing sprites), and how feasible of a goal is it? Any info would be greatly appreciated. | Doodoodoooooo ... That should help.  So yeah, wrong forum. Basically, you'll need to know how to read data, maybe disemble bits of code for games, you'll need to be good at making and editing sprites, knowing HEX, being able to program if you want to do something major, and TIME is the most important thing when coming to Rom Hacking. So yeah, truly "Rom Hacking" is a pretty broad term. There's a lot of things you can do, a graphics hack, text hack, make an editor, ASM tricks, and so on. I'd say just mess with a bit of everything at first, and see what you enjoy doing the most, and from there start focusing on that. (edited by Xeolord on 07-26-05 08:23 PM) |
