I've kind of toyed with the idea a few times, saying A0 like 80, but really, it's just easier to say A zero, B F, and people will know what you mean regardless since hex is typically given in pairs.

Seriously, I don't say hexadecimal numbers in speech ever... so I just write them whenever I [rarely] need to.

Now that's said . . . I pronounce it "hex-a-dec-imal num-bers" and spell like T-H-E-M.

You have weird pronounciation, then. Everyone I know says "heks-ah-des-ih-mal".

Not to mention also the problem is present in other languages too. I speak spanish natively, but in my case, the problem of speech is not so hard. i.e in spanish (BTW, i'll give a little lesson ), saying "dieci-nueve" (19) its like saying "ten and nine" ("and" would be like "plus"), so the problem would be less serious (fi the number is #$1C it would be like dieci-ce, or "ten and cee"). Anyways, here at my University they still pronunce them as separate numbers

I do what a lot of other people do and pronounce them as English words unless there's a letter involved, in which case I just read off the digits (47 = forty-seven; C5 = see five)

(Come to think of it, I always read hex numbers in English and never in any other language.)

But sometimes I mix them together -- many people would say "7200" as "seventy-two hundred", so using that logic, "72A0" becomes "seventy-two ay zero" and not "seven two ay zero".

The word "ought" needs to be said more often. Our great-grandparents said it! If 1907 is "nineteen ought seven", then A049 is 'ay ought forty nine' and FF03 is "eff eff ought three".

Yes, this thread belongs in the Craziness Domain indeed.
