It's not a problem with retailers. You can't put the responsibility on the shop assistant because it is genuinely hard to tell if someone is the age they appear to be. It can also be very intimidating to ask young adults for id. In the UK you can ruin your career by making an honest mistake.

If things are to get any better, the responsibility should be placed on the person that purchases the game. They're the ones who should be criminalised for buying or supplying a rated game.

Your 'M' rating; is it legally binding or just advised? I know the rating isn't changing in the UK because its illegal for us to sell GTA to someone under 18. I can get jailtime and a criminal record for doing so. Personally, I'm absolutly hopeless with people's ages and I get a lot of abuse from customers who I ask for ID (and then usually end up being in their mid-20s)

To be honest, I find the whole thing very amusing. I haven't seen the hack itself but I have seen pictures in magazines. It's not that bad. Singles (for the PC) has sex scenes better than that FFS. But yet again, more publicity for Rockstar isn't gonna hurt em is it?

I believe there are state laws against selling M or AO games to minors in a select few states (I want to say Oregon), but other than that, the adherence to the guidelines are strictly voluntary, like the movie industry.

Edit: OMG 3k I RULE J00 :O

I can't believe this. Wasn't there no nudity in the scene? Looks like the game has already went way up in value too (check ebay). Far less copies were made of the PC & Xbox ones, I'm sure. 1 month on the market for them as opposed to 7 on PS2. I have it on PS2, but not the right system's Action Replay... Good thing I bought this game before the controversy. Old enough or not, I have no ID. Which might make buying AO games impossible.

Hmmmm....

This is apparently some horrible thing to people, yet I can still rip people's spines out of their backs in MK? Ok, good to know that doesn't cross the line. But something like sex? FUCKING GROSS!

Yet no one whined about BMXXX or Postal 2. Jesus-H-Christ.

I just want the AO slapped on this game because it IS in appropriate for minor's to play. They should make it manditory for M and AO games to have ID provided. It's not going to completely stop the purchase of the games, but it sure as hell will slow it.

Although you guys will find this just sickening

Oh sure, and the screenshots don't load. I somehow doubt there's any detailed genetalia; there wasn't in others. (Those blurs aren't perfect. ) You'd have to be rather stupid to put that in the game when it's so easy to hack the censors out of it.

I don't mind games with violence or nudity getting AO ratings. I even agree that this game should have been AO to begin with. It's just the fact that they're changing the rating because of something that doesn't normally appear in the game that I find stupid.

Also why wasn't there this much controversy over Max Payne (I think it was) for PC? Using the debugging code you can move the camera freely and replace your model with any other model in the game. There's a scene with some girl in the shower, and if you rotate the camera (or just switch to her model) you can see that she is in fact very detailed and complete, make her run around and do perverted stuff, etc. (A friend of mine showed me this... If you don't believe me, look at my computer's specs. )

xD

It makes you wonder if thoose people have ever touched the games themself. There is mod-content for The sims 2 that is "dirty" though, but in the offical copies there is only barbie dolls nudity.

Personally, I'd me more concerned about the fact that the second screenshot clearly shows a boy standing outside the window watching a woman taking a bath.

"The nudity placed there by the publisher/maker, Electronic Arts, is accessed by the use of a simple code that removes what is called 'the blur' which obscures the genital areas. In other words, the game was released to the public by the manufacturer knowing that the full frontal nudity was resident on the game and would be accessed by use of a simple code widely provided on the Internet."

...You know what, Jack? Shut up. The instances of nudity you speak of might be accessed by a SMALL portion of Sims 2 users, and I would think the vast majority of them don't even know how to access the nudity. Just because you said stuff about GTA and saw the AO rating get smacked onto it doesn't mean you now have the right to tell people how to code their games.

The updated story is tremendous...

EA is "cooperating, gleefully, with the mod community to turn Sims 2 into a porn offering."

*rolls eyes* Quit while you're ahead, Jack.

They may as well go after Morrowind, there's 489538402983 mods to put nudity in the game.

And yet when Tomb Raider had the Nude Raider patch out, despite magazines paying attention to it, nothing happened. And this was mid-to-late 90's, mind you. Oy vey.

And now we wait for an episode of south park address this controvesry about two after it dies, therefore reviving it.

...

I find it sad that some many people know what "Barbie doll nudity" means.

I don't know if they're going to do a South Park episode about this. Last I check Season 09 was pretty much written, the first leg is done. The final bit starts in October.
