Less hidden things... no.

Stronger game testing to make sure that nothing like this slips through the cracks again? Hell yeah.

I certainly hope it doesn't mean less cool hidden goodies. How long is the code, anyway? It'd have to be like tens, if not hundreds of thousands of lines to actually add this into the game, but only a few to unlock pre-existing code.

I agree with Emptyeye, though. This is Rockstar's kick in the face, which they have needed for SO long, for not testing their games.

So if they're going to re-rate it AO, and release a lighter-rated version without it, why don't they just re-release the current version with it already enabled? People are going to be confused if one is rated AO and one is M, but they're exactly the same without hacks.

The makers of the game are supposed to send the highest rated stuff to the ESRB for rating. They just didnt include hot coffee, so the ESRB couldnt have known.

I blame the company for leaving it IN there. Hackers ALWAYS find the leftover stuff. Why cant the companies see that

I think its really a fault of both sides. Rockstar could've removed it, or ESRB could've ignored it.

They PUT it in the game. The code was THERE. If you want to be sneaky like a god damn weasel, expect this to happen. I'm glad that they're getting nipped in the buds.

Yeah, big mistake on rockstars part, cause it obviously isn't just a tiny tidbit of code that they left in. Also, how can the ESRB be expected to rate game content taht isn't normally accessable to the game. I am afraid that congres and "old people" will flip a shit over this, but really, M and AO are nearly identical in age ranges, i mean, what's the difference between 17+ and 18+, one is a certifiably legal adult and the other is basicaly the same, just not legaly an adult. NE ways, whatever, hopefully it doesn't create too much drama in the industry.

Too late.

If you hadn't been watching, but when Congress starts yammering about the industry...That's called drama. And it's been happening for over a decade.

The gaming industry needs a good collapse to get back in line.

Although the code was in there, with the game as fucking is, there was no way to get to it. I'll quote my ZMD response on this topic.

Oh come on, they made the decision to create such an option for hackers of any age, and it's the responsibility of the ESRB to make to play on the safe side when situations like this arise.

No, Nintendo lost that battle long ago. Nintendo tried to get the Game Genie off the market (maybe not for this exact reason, but for reasons like this. They obviously failed, because the courts ruled that the cartridge itself isn't being moddified with the GG. The same applies here with the GS codes and GTA). Even if the original material wasn't in there, it probably would've taken about 5 gameshark codes to remake it anyway. You should practice what you preach about being responsible, Mr. Underaged Alcoholic.

Once again, I'll state that the illegal acts of modifying an already licensed game, and then having to redo said game's rating, is utter bullshit just because of the said offender. If that was the case, why isn't SMB rated AO? Or what about FF1? Tell me that, he who knows everything.

While I loath the games' existance in every way, I am in agreement with the statements of JCE and Moogle.

Without hacking the game (Game Shark) there was no way to get to the offending data. Therefore, the makers of GTA aren't responsible, because they went out of their way to make sure it wasn't in the game. Nuff said.

It is a wake-up call for Rockstar. I don't see how the game should be up-rated to an AO, because unless you hack the game to bits it's not accessible. Rockstar did everything they should've to keep the content out of the game. Seeing as most game developers don't approve of Action Replay and Gameshark, I don't see why they should've been expected to take further action to protect the content. It's not as if the actual scene is actually in the game as it stands.
The DVD excuse does sound like bullshit, though. It shouldn't take too long to modify the source code, though. It's not a massive part of the gameplay so there shouldn't be that much to modify.
I think that Rockstar should learn a lesson from what sort of activities they spend their time on when developing the game, though. This just goes to show exactly how much time is wasted on stuff that doesn't make it into the final game.

This is a good step towards change. Retailers who will not accept AO-rated games need to fucking wake up and realize video games are not just for kids anymore.

this is retarded, if you dont want to see the sex scene, DONT DO THE CODE...its as simple as that, if it was freely availiable without the code, I could see what the big fuss is, but even then, gta has been known for violence, hookers, and the like, you can have sex with prostitutes on the street, you cant see it actually happen, but you can hear it, and see the vehicle shaking. rockstar can add whatever the fuck they want to the game, look at all the adult PC games, its never going to stop, like its been said games arent just for kids anymore. if your old enough to buy an M rated game, your old enough to play a sex mini game, so there you go.

This is kinda crazy. . . I mean, they DID make it not part of the game. There is secret text inside the Pokemon game (when I dumped Leaf Green it was proven to me), that said..well it translated as "This is a special Ticket! Oh, and if you like this game, buy it or die". It was not included in game, of course! buuut...wouldn't that mean that the game should be M? Hm! Nope. It is in the American game, too...I found it just searching. It is in the game,b ut never used. So if you used a code to unlock the script...that would mean the rating should be changwed because one girl found something no one else knows about? This would confuse a bajillion people! So stupid..

Yoro, maybe you should report that to the government, see how their precious Pokemon games could POSSIBLY corrupt their kids.

Forgive me if I'm wrong, but isn't the animation in GTA: San Andreas so horrifically bad that looking at a sex scene would be akin to watching barbie dolls do it?

The sex scene animation apparently is, yes.

Leno: Lots of games have incomplete material in them because programmers are too lazy to take it out, actually. But one would think that Rockstar would have exercised common sense in thinking about what that could do if it was released.

Exactly. Like Leno said, should Super Mario Bros be rated AO? You can use Game Genie codes to make Mario naked!

And from what I hear you can't even really see anything. Who gives a damn?

This reminds me of the South Park where they all get ninja weapons and hit Butters in the eye with a throwing star. At the end, Cartman walks on an auction stage naked, and there's a town meeting in which they rabblerouse about that outrage instead of Butters' injury. At the end, Stan says, "Yeah. I guess parents don't give a crap about violence if there's sex things to worry about."
