I've been having this problem lately: I set my alarm for X time, wake up about half an hour later (due to a phone call or my cat licking my hand or some other mysterious force) with the clock off and no memory whatsoever of having turned it off and gone back to sleep.

I believe this may be attributed to staying up until 4:30 in the morning and going to wake up at 10 (and sleeping through it), or it could be because I am used to my alarm clock after using the same one for four years. It also could be that it's too close to my bed. If I placed it further away, for example, I'd have to be roused to consciousness rather than reach over and turn it off (which is what I currently seem to be doing).

What do you think? And do you need an alarm clock? I know there's a lot of people who don't need one (I used to be one of them).

never need one...I always tend to get up around the same time...I usually go to bed by midnight, and I usually wake up between 7:30 and 8:00 AM...last week it was the exact same time 4 days in a row, freaky really.

Hmm, so you're turning it off while sleeping... What's funny, is that I had almost the opposite problem. I used to wake up an hour before the clock would set off, since I knew that the sound was awful...

But yeah, you could try to place it away from the bed (I was going to suggest it before I read your whole post). Also, if you have an alarm clock function on your cell phone or your CD player, try those as well. Other than that, I can't suggest anything other than going to bed earlier. Five or six hours isn't enough.

Personally, I sleep seven or eight hours those days I'm going to school, and even that isn't enough. Nowadays, though, I can sleep up to twelwe hours. Never sleep that much; it's just a waste of time.... Then again, everyone is different from each other.

Personally, I only use alarm clocks as a backup. It's always set, but I usually get up a few minutes before it goes off anyways.

I never needed one unless it was something REALLY important I had to get up for. (Dentist appointment, doctors, etc)

I wake up early enough on my own for me to not miss these things.

Even having an ass in your face?

Ah yes, I remember doing that to people in Jr. High, ah ... the good immature times.

Alarm Clocks always wake me up, I can't stand the noise. I'm also a heavy sleeper, so I've put the alarm clock several feet away from my bed, so I'm forced to get up and walk over to turn it off, waking me up.

Edit: Speaking of good times, I remember a few years back when I spent the night with a friend, I woke up during the middle of the night because he was farting in his sleep. I checked to see if he was awake, but he was sound asleep ... and farting. It was awesome.

I really never needed an alarm clock for a while, I always used to wake up when I needed to.

Now, I find myself waking up later and later. Yeah, I know it's summer, but here's to hoping I don't have any early morning classes when I go off to college...

Well, I mean, if I sleep more than two hours...All hell breaks lose. Specially if I'm in a comfy bed. If it's like my beloved bed at home...Well, once my mom woke me up. I got up had a shower, fully dressed...Then I passed out on the floor, and was late for school. The next morning.

Yeah.

Yeah, well, get your face out of my ass.

I learned how to turn my alarm clock off in my sleep, which is why I now sleep on the other end of my bed.

This happens to me quite often. I'll set it to go off at 4:45 during the school year, only to wake up an hour later and be very late. Especially when I have to shower in the mornings. And I never remember it going off or me turning it off, but I know for a fact I set it every night. So I guess I've learned to turn it off in my sleep too. Which sucks.

That almost happened to me recently. Yeah, that happened in Las Vegas, she was trying to wake me up the morning after we got there. I was tired as hell after crossing 2 time zones and gaining 2 hours so she decides to put her ass on my face but I opened my eyes and got away.

Anyway about alarm clocks, I use them to wake me up at a certain time, when the alarm goes off, I turn it off as usual and then go back to bed to sleep for about 30 minutes. I should just stop using one until school starts again.

Can't use an alarm. I would wake up when an alarm went off, but then I wouldn't even get up. I would sleep through it...

I listen to the radio/Xbox when I go to sleep. I need sound to sleep.

And sound won't wake me up... unless someone wakes me up. That is it. No alarm clock for me, thank you.

I usually don't use an alarm clock, but when it is absolutely nessesary, I put the volume as lout as possible and I put it on radio instead of buzzer. That seems to wake me up alot better than just an alarm. And yeah if you stay up til 4 am then it will be hard to wark up.

I used to depend on my alarm clock to get me up, but that was back in my first year of college, where I had to get up around 7 or 8 each day (and that's early for me). The only other times I actually set it were when I needed to get up earlier than normal in the morning, or if I was going to bed a lot later than normal, and knew I wouldn't wake up in time if I didn't set it

Right now, however, I don't use it. That's partially due to the fact that I can't change the minutes without pretty much pounding on the button, and that I've been waking up much earlier than normal lately. Back in May, and before that, I'd wake up anywhere from 10 to 11am most days, but now I find that I wake up around 9, and sometimes earlier

It's the only clock in my room that's visible from my bed, so it still serves a purpose

zOMG -- I've found a person with an insane time to wake up

unless I have an 8am final, my alarm is set for 5:45am. If I really, really need to wake up, I let my alarm to be super loud. I dont' like the beeping alarms because I sleep through it. Instead, I use a CD/radio alarm and jack the volume so loud that someone has to hear it if i sleep through it...

although, there is one occasion that I've slept through my alarm set to the max volume--a volume that could have blown out the speakers; i somehow slept through that one

I shredded a lot of (fortunately) cheap alarm clocks. Usually when I'm still tired, I smash my hand on the alarm clock and think "Shut up! I want to sleep!", after a few treatments like that I usually can trash it. That's also a reason I keep my alarm clocks (yes, with an "s", now I'm down to one only) far away on the desktop ... I actually _have_ to get up (and since the current radio alarm clock really makes an annoying noise when waking up - it gets me up ).

But I need usually two alarm clocks, one is my cell phone, it rings thirty minutes before I need to get up, what is implied by that alarm clock above.

Did not use mine since school. Now I don't need it anymore. I go to sleep at midnight every night but its hard to sleep so I get about 10 hours of sleep. I only use my alarm clock for emergencies or when I go to work. Still finding work now.

i've never needed to use one. I always wake up at 6:30am during the weekdays, and around 9:00am on the weekends. I have my own alarm clock in my head.
My brain: "Wake up you lunk head!!"
Me: "I'm up. I'm up!"

Anyway, thats some interesting stuff. You should get some really huge speakers, connect em to ur radio, and well..you get the picture. But, if you have a pair of glasses, and/or have windows in your room i'd suggest you don't do the above.
