    Places that aren't too bad:
  • Geocities

    Places you can put screenshots:
  • Imageshack (No registration required IIRC)
  • Photobucket

Places that suck hard (not gonna bother linking):
  • Freewebs
  • Tripod
  • Angelfire

Another really great site that will let you upload any type of file is 1 ASP Host. You have a free 100MB to upload stuff. I'm not to sure how great the bandwidth is tho. I have used this layout in over 100 posts and it runs off that site. So I think the bandwidth is pretty good.

We should have a thread dedicated to 'Most commonly asked questions' on this board.

We all know 'WUT IZ ACMLM?' would be on top.

Doesn't the FAQ stand for "Frequently Asked Questions"?

You could also try running your own web server with Apache or IIS, but good luck getting it to work well.

Hyperhacker, I'm using Tripod for three years now and had no problems. But then, i'm practically leeching off their servers.

Priere: At least we don't have Erkdog to get into here, and praise about his server... when you reccomend someone who want to set up a own server for testing to get a "real" one... ;

Although a little different from this type of question, I think we could really use such a thread for "Bugs and not bugs" in the FAQ. I can't count how many times I"ve seen a stupid question brought up, and bugs posted in the Bug Thread that aren't even bugs, and repeated posts, etc.

Man, it gets old.

Yeah, thankfully nobody gets to whore out their server anymore.

The questions themselves could be part of the FAQ or a totally new document... but if people don't read the FAQ in the first place, what are the odds of them reading the new one?

It's not a matter of unreliability or anything. It's just that they suck overall.

Well, FreeWebs has done me well, better than GeoCities, because it seems that the former's bandwidth limit is much higher.

It's not that their bandwidth is higher, it's that a lot of people can't download things or get really crappy speeds.

Even thought Freewebs sucks, it is probably you best bet for a website on a hack. It is easy to use and it has professional looking templates. But if you can design a nice looking webstie yourself host it on geocities. Free and easy to use.

Besides that freaking annoying side bar. It is good for small sites like sites for hacks...but I wish they would go back to the old adverts...smaller and...and...smaller...

You don't really need a fancy site for a hack. Just some images and a link will do fine. In a lot of cases you can even just hotlink them and not bother making a page.

When I did websites for my hacks. All I would do is have one main page with completion %'s Background info and then a separate page for screenshots and sprites and downlaods. Hyperhacker is right you don't need a fancy site. (That is why frewebs was easy for me...fast easy website with good layouts.) The only problem with freewebs is that the downlaods are slow.
