Okay, so I'm seein' a lot of LCD monitors that range from 800x600 to 1248x1024... does that mean that they can't go any higher res than that? 'cause I've grown very fond of my 1600x1200 resolution and can't possibly downgrade now So just wonderin' if it's possible to use a higher res than what it says on the specs for these LCD monitors.

From what I've seen, they can't go very high. Also they're kind of blurry... and ugly. Maybe I've only seen the shitty ones.

the ones I've seen recently have very crisp pictures and look great. I just need 1600x1200 resolution 'cause I've grown so used to it as for the ugly.. yeah, there's a lot of 'em that are still ugly, but I've seen some really nice lookin' ones too. but again, none of 'em say 1600x1200

Even though they're bulky i stick with the crt monitors. LCD 'blends the pixels' ( as i would like to call it), and when you play games it trails ( my one friend hardly noticed it but it was so anoying to me it pissed me off).

I just bought a 15'' lcd and it only goes up to 1024X768.

But I don't really need anything bigger. I would have had to plop down $100 more to get the 17'' with more options.

Today's LCDs have more advantages to standard screens; they are more ergonomic than those; use far less energy and even the viewer's angle (which was a problem since you needed to stare directly onto it on earler models) is no major problem anymore
For anyone who likes to play games like UT and others, they probably won't be too hapy with LCD screens, since they have very low refresh times with 20 ms or even more.

Last time I checked, CRTs produced a better picture and were cheaper. Flat CRTs are available.

I'd stick with CRTs unless energy consumption or desk space is a major issue.

might look into a flat CRT, 'cause finding a LCD that allows my resolution or higher is hard to find and hella expensive when you do find it. I suppose my current screen will work find for now, though. only one dead pixel thus far, which is pretty good all things considered. Thanks for the input folks. One thing that really sold me away from LCDs was the low refresh. I know how that can be a problem, so I think I'll wait for the tech to get a little better.

LCD screens get's better and better and cheaper all the time. But it's still too expensive.

But then, CRT monitors does take big area of the desktop. Especially if you have an 21 tum one...

I cant complain. I just got a LCD and its alright. Nothing too fancy, but its certainly better than my old one...

I dont see why people need such high resolution though

I love my CRT. It's PERFECT =D

In other words, it goes up to 1024x768, which is all I need.

Unless I'm playing a game, the blurring on my LCD is REALLY noticable

It actually looks quite fine at 1280x1024, though.

When you work with applications like Paint Shop Pro, tile editors like TLP and others, you will like every additional pixel and the precious space you get on the screen. Or just imagine how much space th contact list of Trillian takes up in 1024 x 768 or even 1152 x 864, even im compact mode
I would like to use 1280 x 1024, but it gets too blurry on my 17" monitor, I'd first get a 19" one first, then I could work in that resolution; so I'm stuck with 1152 x 864 currently (it is displayed clearly without blurriness unlike higher resolutions )

That and I find it makes mass browsing (like boarding) a bit easier.
