I've decided sleep is a waste of my time. So i didn't sleep last night.

Does anybody know if it's physically possible to just plain stop sleeping all together?

a drug or something?

It seems once i get to 4 AM the next day i slowly become hyper and tired at the same time. And i can smell sound.

Anyways has anyone just stopped sleeping for large amounts of time?

Really? I think sleeping is the best time in the world.
You just have to lay down, think nothing, and relax...

But I understand you when you can't sleep, but using drugs to stay up is a no-no.
It just makes things worse.

If you don't want to sleep, sleep anyway.
Or else, you can't spend time living, to do things that you do overnight.

I can go for a full week without sleeping with only 8 hours sleep. But I think it's impossible to give up completely.

Well, there is ways getting around it.

Only having to sleep 5 hours per day would be awesome, but that schedule wouldn't work together with... other people.

OMG...that is what I do i go to sleep from 1-6 and then I have a nap when I take public transportation...that is how I survived such hellish schedules

but anyways, you really can't forgo sleep--since there are certain processes that only occur when you sleep; also, sleep allows your immune system to regain its strength again by not stressing your body out--you'd be surprised how many microbes and viruses are out there

Well, for myself, during the past month or so, sleep has been less of a priority for me, for a couple reasons.

First off, I don't know what it's like wherever you are, but it's been, what I'm going to call insanely hot here (to my knowledge, we've broken several old records for our hottest heat ever recorded on various days). I've actually grown somewhat accustomed to hearing the weather guy on the radio read off temperatures that are, most of the time, 30 degrees or above (I don't know what that is in fahrenheit though, so you'll have to figure it out for yourself if that's the system you use).

To make matters worse, our air conditioner at home has not been turned on yet this summer. Reasoning behind that being that my Dad and Mom are trying to save some money by not using it. Given the whole "heat rises" thing, and the fact that my room is upstairs, I find it really hard to comfortably fall asleep, unless I have no clothes on, my fan is on the highest setting, and is as close to my bed as I can get it without pulling it out of the wall socket That's worked so far, but the problem is that it's been hot for so many days in a row, without getting cooler.

That should pretty much explain why I haven't been getting much sleep lately, but there's another reason still:

During, and a couple days after the weekend, there's a high likelihood that either I'll be spending the night at a friend's house, or he'll be coming over to mine. During those sleepovers (although the sleep should be removed), we stay up until at least 2:00 in the morning, and often longer than that. I've gone one day / night recently without any sleep at all, but due to how I felt while volunteering the next day, I made a decision to try not to do that again.

The heat's the big problem though, as I've found myself actually not wanting to go upstairs and go to sleep, but still being tired enough that I didn't want to do anything else. Perhaps sleeping in the living room would be a good idea, as it's rather spacious, so there's a good amount of airflow, it's on the ground level of the house, so there'll be less heat there, and there's several plugs within short distance of the couch, so I can plug my fan in. Anyways, enough about that, and more about the topic

As has already been stated, it's really not a good idea to try to stop sleeping, whether via the use of drugs, or just by sheer willpower I don't see how or why anyone would think that sleeping is a waste of time either. It is your choice in the end, but I wouldn't pursue it any further if I were you.

I enjoy sleep, becaue it's nice to be able to lay down for 6-8 hours after an 8 hour shift of labor work.

I don't know how you don't like sleep. I could sleep all day long and be content.
It's unhealthy to not get enough sleep, so if I were you I'd stop the act. Just sleep, it's what you're supposed to do for at least a few hours every day.

Well, apparantly, Liam Gallagher thought that if he was on cocain for a week non-stop, he'd never have to sleep ever again. Sadly, it didn't work.

I only slept for 6 hours a day a few years ago when I had school.

I got pretty tired. Yeah, I like to sleep too. I slept until 2:50pm one day.

If you wanna stay awake for quite some time just try some sosa. You'll love it.
Plus you don't even need much, a small line is enough to stay up for a very long time.

I tend to stay up for ~20 hours, then sleep for 10. I oughta check out that polyphasic stuff, but I find it hard to stick to a particular sleep schedule, because I'm usually trying to finish programming something around that time.

I wish people didn't have to sleep at all... Maybe someday they'll invent a recharging machine or something.

Sleeping is good. Enjoy sleeping all day during this summer if you don't have a job because once it's over and have to go back to school , there won't be time for sleeping all day. I used to not give enough sleep during the school year which was hard for me to get up.

We'd all be better if we didn't need sleep...but it's a common biological weakness. Don't try and stop it, though, or you'll get really messed up. People go mad when they're deprived from sleep for so long.
