But... only if you run Firefox...

Oddly enough, Attack of the Show had some pretty cool information today... but, Ill just let you read for yourself.

Originally on ATOS
Thanks to this O'Reilly article, we were able to figure out how to reverse engineer a Google search and make Firefox's search box search any site - regardless of whether the site has its own search engine.

You'll need put the following text into a new Notepad document:

<search
version="7.1"
name="Your Site's Title"
description="Search www.yoursite.com"
action="http://www.google.com/search"
searchForm="http://www.google.com"
method="GET"
>

<input name="sourceid" value="Mozilla-search">
<input name="sitesearch" value="www.yoursite.com">
<input name="q" user="">
</search>

Inside the text file, change yoursite to the address of the site you'd like to search. The line that says "Your Site's Title" will become the search's name inside of the Firefox search box, so name it properly. Then, save the text document as yoursitesname.src to the folder: C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox\searchplugins

You'll also need to create a 16 pixel by 16 pixel PNG or GIF image inside of your image editor (Paint, GIMP, Photoshop, etc.). This image will serve as your search icon and must have the same name as your SRC file - yoursitesname.gif or yoursitesname.png. This image must also be saved to the searchplugins folder.

After you copy or save your SRC and GIF/PNG files to the searchplugins folder, restart Firefox.

I just thought this was coolness in a can... or something like that

Uhhh, and... enjoy

Thats purdey cool. I'd have my search engine filter out all the images WITHOUT naked people. Naw, just joking. Google's already got that one covered.

But it sounds like a cool idea. I have a feeling that even if I tried, I wouldn't figure it out.

I prefer IE. Tried firefox and couldn't ge to like it. When I want to make my own search engine, I just use a .php document that sets up a google search.
