I cannot stand listening to the radio stations that play all the 'hits' of the '00s. I listen to '80s, '90s, and today stations that only play the bearable music.
I know I sound like an old grandpa when I talk like that, but when I look back on all the old stuff older generations lisented too, I wonder why I have gotten stuck with this stuff.

'60s had its happy feel. '70s had its dance. '80s had its keyboards. '90s had its old school rap and dance grooves. Today we are stuck with NOISE.

Just a little contraversy for ya'...

although the more popular music i think has gone a little downhill more and more incredibly
talented bands are surfacing. Though because MTV pretty much controls the music industry they're not big enough to be noticed. Keep looking snika you'll find good stuff eventually.

Because what's on radio is commercial music crap? Lot of bands that are trying too much to get money, seeing their stuff sold.

Yeah, you just have too look around and search for the good music..I barely listen to the radio now..I barely even listen to a lot of english music but every once in awhile I will on the radio to see if there's any good songs out. Just check back to the radio and stuff and once you hear a good song find out the artist and everything else. New artists are good to look up too, usually they're the ones who are purdy good.

Thankfully, some people do have some sense nowadays towards ignoring manufactured pop acts and no-brained metal bands.

See how popular The Mars Volta are right now. And Radiohead.

Even System of a Down, who are huge right now, have tried to deviate from the standard dumbass metal template that most bands seem to follow by incoporating a lot of originality into their music and actually not giving a fuck about labels and genres.

Then again, we have bands like Limp Bizkit and Linkin Park. Who suck.

There's a local band that has a cd out that you can only get from their website or a few places around town. So yeah try local bands as they're good to a certain extent.

Noise is art. Don't equate modern mass-production music with noise.

It feels as though most of my underground preferences have also seriously degenerated this century. There has been some innovation, but very bad innovation at that.

Seeing as most radio stations play what they get paid to play, it's not the stuff that people with half a brain would actually enjoy. Find a genre you like and ask around for good bands, they're out there.

Do what I do. Listen to electronica. It's basically unheralded in the United States, but it's huge in Europe and stuff. And it's really, really good.

Since when did we strt discussing "the 90s" as a single musical unit?

AND WHEN DID WE START DOING IT WITHOUT MENTIONING NIRVANA OR RADIOHEAD AS MAJOR FOCII FOR MUSICAL TRENDS?

The 90s is pretty much 2 different eras divided into the early and latter parts of the decade.

I stopped listening to the radio when i requested converge 3 years ago, and the dj said fuck you.

system of a down arent as good as everybody says, theyre so popular right now because all the "Punks" think theyre cool because they talk bad about the govenrment, but they dont like any real punk.

System of a Down was good when they weren't pop rock.

And no, Toxicity does NOT count as good.

I just think it's sad what the US has turned into.

You look years and years back, and I'd say we had awesome stuff.
Boston, Journey, Kansas, Quiet Riot, The Scorpions, and I could go on and on.

Now it's what?
Greenday, System of a Down, more crap?

At least Europe is providing the goods these days.
(Edguy, Gamma Ray, Stratovarius, Sonata Arctica, etc)

Well, I guess my main point here is that rock / metal in the US has been destroyed. nu metal, does not count.

Meh. As long as Moby is still making music, I don't care. He's basically the only artist I give two shits about anymore.
