Etymologists and herpetologists?

Etymology: The origin and historical development of a linguistic form as shown by determining its basic elements, earliest known use, and changes in form and meaning, tracing its transmission from one language to another, identifying its cognates in other languages, and reconstructing its ancestral form where possible.

Herpetology: The branch of zoology that deals with reptiles and amphibians.

How exactly does that help you know about millipedes or centipedes ?

And thanks to dictionary.com for the definitions.

just wear a giant spider costume and poor maple syrup all over yourself.

besides that i have no clue.

HOWEVER: i DO know how to repel them. Chesnuts and mothballs. both of those work wonders. I have no clue why but spiders wont go anywhere near a chesnut or a mothball.

Alright, well if everyone really wants to know... Spider trap. I don't want to repel them out of my basement, because then they'll go all over the place.

...and you want alot of insects down there instead?

There is a reason why you have alot of spiders down there, seems like alot of insects live down there. Try to decrease the number of insects and you see.

Trust me, there's been times I've wanted to lure spiders into slipper-whacking range... crawling on the top of the wall, right near the ceiling, making it tough for me to get a good shot in on it...

I won't be using bait anytime soon though. :\ Just good old patience.

If that happens to me, I don't have patience. I force someone else in the house to get it.

I can get most of them unless they're the spiders with the really long legs. Those... ugh. They leave such a mess after they're splattered.

We've had one or two outside the house before. :\ Didn't pay them much attention since they were... you know... outside. Who stops to kill a spider that's not inside your house anyways?

Yech, they're EVERYWHERE here. I don't want you in my room with your long legs and crap. I'm scared of even those.

Colleen.. I did not want to read that.
I remember I asked my brother to kill a cricket once, and thank god he did. By smooshing it with a shoe on my pillow so it left a nice big guts spot.
Oh my gosh.

that's a good question

i daddy-long-legs used to be around my old house when I was young--one would always settle near the toilet in my bathroom. but when I moved to my new house, you don't see them that often...

There's actually a certain infrasonic (I think) sound that attracts insects (I know that).

Spiders tend to make webs in the most unusual (and annoying) places. I hate how they constantly spin webs between parked cars overnight, and directly across some parts of sidewalks that are between trees...it's like they're asking to suck rolled newspaper...

For the record, camel spiders cannot get that big; the cameras were in close-up view to make it look that way.

A nice way to repel spiders (if you're not too squimish) is by using a lighter near their face. Some spiders will even scream to burning heat! It's freaking sweet.

Like Ziff said, a good way to attract them is by using sugar water and a maimed bug.

Do you seriously mean that they will scream, vocally? I never thought that they were capable...

i dont think vocally...

i used to burn ants with my magnifying glass and after a few seconds they'd make a high pitch squeeling noise. but only if i burned the back of it (cant remember what it's called)
