| http://www.freewebs.com/beneficii/athena.nes For all you hackers, hack this ROM that I made from scratch and PM me telling me as much as you can about it by 8 PM Central Daylight Time on Wednesday. A point will be given for each correct observation related to the code or on how the data is stored. A bonus ten points for sending a hack of this ROM changing something regarding it (but the structure of code must be maintained and you must explain what you did and how you did it). I will post the winners and everybody's observations after the contest ends at 8 PM Central Daylight Time on Wednesday. NOTE: Do not post anything on it here in this thread. You didn't give any financial incentive to do it, so I won't. If you had said "I'll give you 5 million yen via paypal if you do this" then I probably would have. Damn, the yen is worthless  This isn't even a game, you little Motherf***er! I can't read Japanese/Mandarin/Viatnamese/whatever that crap is, and I'm certainly not going to hack it just so I can actually play a game if there is one indeed! | I downloaded this, thinking there would be some sort of challenge, but after glancing at the rom with FCEUXD, all I see is a very small simple homebrew rom that displays vertical columns of... well, garbage. It doesn't even check the state of the controller (no reads to $4016). (edit - apparently posting what took 2 minutes of hacking is considered offensive by the author. Just take my word for it guys, don't touch this rom.) Other than that, I really don't see the point of this, or what you even want for that matter. (edited by bbitmaster on 07-10-05 08:48 PM) |

| bbitmaster, It displays Japanese text. Of course, if it displays a text and if the code is written to display pretty much any text.... Essentially, I was working on one aspect of the ROM, the text display, and I wanted to put a fun little thing up about it. Of course, considering some of the reception I've got, it might have been better not to. Still, I'm going to stick by this and the challenge is still on. PM me telling me as much as you can about the ROM. bbitmaster, what did I say about posting information about the ROM on the thread? You're supposed to PM me regarding it.
