I've recently stumbled upon SMW hacking doing some searches on google, when I saw lunar magic I thought I was dreaming! The editor is beautiful in my eyes, I fell in love with it immediately. Over the past two days that I've had it I've used up half that time tinkering with it, 1/4 eating/sleeping and 1/4 testing out my creations. Today I've delved into GFX and ExGFX stuff, I've read the majority of threads on this forum and I'm still confused. Maybe Im just retarded

1. Making a new .bin file, how do I do this? I dont want to copy a gfx bin to make an ExGFX one because I'd have to copy over the images already there.

2. When inserting ExGFX and than using Super Bypass, MUST I have garbled and demented "terrain" objects?

3. Can you add stuff to the 8x8 editor pages? I want to add graphics for custom blocks later on and I don't see any free spaces to save those tiles in. Maybe I overlooked something, I read the help page at least four times and I STILL don't get it.

I'm a real moron and so you must treat me as such.

No, actually, your questions are surprisingly sound. Make a folder in your SMW folder labelled 'ExGraphics' and copy and paste the graphics file you want to edit in, or any old one if you want to start from scratch. Rename it ExGFX80.bin or ExGFX81 or basically anything 80 and above. Go to File>Graphics>Insert ExGFX. Go to the Super Bypass and set what you want to load it to as 80 or whatever you set it to. Go into the 8x8 editor and edit it from there. When you want to save it, hit F9, then go and Insert the ExGFX again to insert the saved copy. I'm sure you know about palettes and stuff so I'm not gonna talk about that now. Anyway, if you're not sure which you inserted because you just picked a random file...

If you set it to replace FG1 it'll be the top half of the first page.
FG2, bottom half, first page.
FG3, bottom, second.
BG, top, second.
SP1, top, third.
SP2, bottom, third.
SP3, top, fourth.
SP4, bottom, fourth.

Thanks! I think I have a grasp on the ExGFX aspects of LM now. All those hours cursing at my monitor and myself all seem to be distant memories now that I can actually work this thing.
