I've been picked up to do some GFX for a SMB hack, and I did something for the Koopas that I've never seen anyone do (but it's really easy.) Take a look at the screenshot:


That's not the finished product, but it shows how I changed it. There is an empty tile next to the koopa's head, so all I had to do was free up some space, make the second half of his head and then insert it in the data. There's a byte next to the byte for the tutrle's head that has a value of FC. If you replace the FC with the value of the tile you plan on using then you can add an extra tile to the koopa's sprite. 8x8 sprites also have two FC's before it that allows two more 4x4 tiles above the sprite.

Omni... I'm not an idiot lol I'm just saying that it's kind of funny that I don't commonly see people take advantage of something so simple. Live I've never seen anyone actually do that for the koopas, and then end up making really cramped looking SMW style koopas. I wasn't trying to sound like this was some amazing new thing that's never been done before, but I can see how it sounds like that.

I don't like the Mario GFX. I think it's mainly the fact that there's red on his skin. And, IMO, the Koopa's a little skinny.(but, you're using all the space, right?) Other than that though it's pretty good. I like the ! box's too.

Yeah, I just haven't gotten around to getting rid of the red on Mario's skin, and the koopa's are as big as I can get them. I don't have a pic of it, but the ! blocks have a big X on them when you hit them, it's pretty cool.

Yeah, the font is the last thing I usually do. As far as a thread goes I don't think there is anymore, I think it got buried after all of the positions for the hack got filled
