Ghost was hit by the initial attack for full damage, but once he was in the air, he flew off to the side of Lapis's combo, avoiding the following four strikes. As he was floating in the air, he suddenly flickered back into his corporeal form, but changed back a second later...was it possible he couldn't remain in his spirit form forever? More curiously, a portal seemed opened behind Ghost, it but disappeared in a puff of blue flames just afterwards, unable to exist inside of the sound bubble...

As Lapis passed to the side of him, Ghost swung his blade into her! The first attack was the strongest, dealing heavy damage. Following this, Ghost rotated his arm to switch his weapon, but sustained this motion, causing his weapon to continually spin, and possibly get Lapis caught in a combo of quick, light attacks.

Lapis, seeing her opponent would be out of the way of her combo, tried to follow him. She was unprepared for the sudden attack, and felt the full force. Gasping in pain, she brought her left knife into the path of the blade as it spun around, catching it as her right knife stabbed out as her foe. She concentrated her pain into her knives, and both of their energy glows heightened...

(ooc: I think Lapis's psychic energy channeling is different enough from magic for it to be used. Subsequent hits will reduce the knife counter by 5 until her next turn ends. Knife counter is at 31.)

OOC: Yes, I consider psychic to be different from magic. It'll work.
Also, I finally figured out a good system for keeping track of Ghost's HP. I'll post it now. If you think he's still kind of high...well, get him to half HP for a break...
-----

Ghost hand his right arm extended and his shield pointed away, and wasn't able to block Lapis's dagger. Ghost was knocked back slightly from the hit.

Ghost: Enough child's play. Let's see you get out of this!

Ghost passed through Lapis, and quickly shot his spear forward at her for light damage! After this, he swiftly flew through her again, and stabbed again. Ghost continued this pattern of quick attacks at random positions, averaging about four attacks per second. He would continue this attack until Lapis dodged, blocked, or countered.

Ghost's HP: 57/100

The process of another being passing through you is unnerving at best. A surprised Lapis was still shuddering when she took the first hit. Sobering quickly, she brought both knives around before Ghost could continue moving. She unleashed another combination attack, consisting of four quick slashes, before 'jumping' (Well, when you're a spirit, the ground is where you want it to be) up and bringing the hilt of her right dagger down onto her opponent's head. As she did so, a thin silver blade extended from the pommel, in the perfect position to pierce Ghost's skull.

(ooc: Knife counter at 26. The silvery backknife will break off when struck, and exists because it can reduce the counter by 10 when it does so.)

When Ghost performs his Slash Frenzy technique, he is completely at the mercy of the defender, once they retaliate. As such, all five attacks hit Ghost, who was stuck in place during Lapis's combo. When Lapis paused to break, Ghost calmly removed the knife from his skull, and carelessly tossed it behind him.

Ghost: This whole scenario is becoming very pointless. What exactly do you plan to do after you kill me? I have a knack for defying death, you know.

Ghost looked around expectantly...but didn't do much else...what was he expecting?

Ghost's HP: 37/100

Mute will end next turn.

Lapis: The world of the living is not for the dead. You are not welcome here, and until you have left us, it is my duty to banish you to whatever evil place you came from. No doubt you once belonged to our world, but as you should know, that time has long past. If you are killed again here, so close to the Ivory Tower, you will be trapped there. The Council has already prepared your soulstone, your home forever should I defeat you, being drawn upon for power, always tortured, and eternally forgotten...

That is your fate. I, for one, would not condemn you. You have a choice... Far better than thousands, even millions before you. The dead deserve nothing, but it is never the deserving who are punished. Such is the law of our world.

Lapis re-entered her material form, dropping to the ground gracefully. While she spoke, she concentrated for hatred of the order of her world into her knives, which began to pulse rythmically with violet light.

(ooc: Knife counter was at 11 before her turn, but she spent her turn channeling, reducing the counter by 15... So the knives are fully charged.)

While Lapis was concentrating, there was a CRACKing sound, and the mute bubble disappeared! Immediately after this, four portals opened behind Ghost, and out of each of them came a line of blue energy that attached itself to him. This event normally happened when Ghost started getting worn out, but something different happened this time...a fifth portal opened, and this one shot a beam of white, holy energy at Ghost! Somehow, Ghost starting taking damage from this last one, even though he had immunity... Also, this strange twist seemed to prevent him from getting his usual power ups!

Ghost shouted in pain as the holy energy engulfed him likes flames.

Ghost: Rrrrr! Why is this happening?!

Quickly, Ghost used his staff to cast Dispel, and all of the portals closed, bringing their energy beams with them. Ghost returned to his corporeal form, and fell to the ground.

Ghost: What caused that? ......I wonder if it was...

Ghost thought quietly, completely forgetting about Lapis.

(ooc: First of all, I'd like to apologize profusely for the abscence. I did not mean to ignore you in any way- I was simply without a computer at all without warning for several weeks. I've heard that they forgive meaningful bumps in the sim-battle forum... So here goes.)

Lapis: You see? The darkness calls for you. Let it consume you as it consumes all. If you remain in our world, a worse damnation than that of nothingness awaits. To live is to die. Those that take this journey often cannot sustain theirselves for long. Here, let me end this for you - I will end your suffering.

Lapis raised both knives into the air as the the glyph swiftly grew on its own, forming an immsensely complicated rune structure across the landscape. It then began to emit a soft turquoise light, shining up into the stars. As the light touched the knives, their lavender glow mingled with the green, somehow forming a bright blue color...

Meanwhile, the second moon continued to rise once more, nearing an eclipse with the full moon that has previously presided over the landscape.

Lapis: I will give you a single chance to escape from this place. As long as my magic here is strong, they wouldn't dare hold you to this world... But soon, I will destroy you myself. Be swift, or nothing will save you...

OOC: Whoa, once you came back, it turns out I was having my own problems . Likewise, no offense or anything.
---

Ghost stood up from his crouching position, and stared straight at Lapis - his stare would be unnerving to most people, since he had no visible eyes.

Ghost: I see that this land gives you a high advantage. I will take my leave. But know this!

Ghost flared brightly in blue flames.

Ghost: Do not continue to mingle in our future affairs! An enemy of my master can be promised a far worse fate than you could ever deliver!

Ghost swiftly drew Doomsday to his side and created a portal with a flash of ethereal wind. He paused before stepping inside.

Ghost: Oh, look. I think you'll have some visitors to take my place. Many of them.

With that, Ghost vanished inside the swirling blue mist... and two Netherworld hunters stepped out a moment afterward! Ghost was out of the fight, but Lapis wasn't finished just yet...

(ooc: It's ok, really! But I think I worked myself into a bit of a corner, here, what with giving Ghost no option but to run... I'll still kill the summons, though!)

And just as Ghost escaped, the second moon halted in place, completely covering the first. The eclipse began to emit a bright red light, shining down to the battlefield. As it neared the green of the glyphs, it formed a line of creamy yellow where the lights touched, stretching beyond the horizon. And there, in the very center, were Lapis's blue and gold knives, glowing blue. The circle of yellow began spiralling inwards towards her knives, as the light from the glyphs spun upwards and the eclipse downwards into the blades. Within a second, all of the energy had been absorbed into her knives, which give off a soft silver glow as she lowered them slowly into a fighting position...

When a shaft of light from out of the night sky crashed into the portal, destroying it. A quick eye to the horizon could detect that it had originated from the Ivory Tower. The Council were not about to lose any more nether energy than they could.

Lapis stood waiting, watching the catlike creatures with amusement. She'd let them attack first, to get a feel for their movements.

(ooc: Well, I think the Ivory Tower thing is ok... I mean, all the nearby magic has been absorbed into Lapis's weapons, so she's not stopping any interferences any more, and she mentioned that in the last post.)

OOC: Ghost isn't always going to fight to the death. He didn't feel like risking dying over... well, nothing really.
---

The hunters yowled horribly, nodded to each other, and then closed in on Lapis from opposite sides.

The first lunged swiftly while spinning, attempting to hit Lapis with a medium powered claw and a medium-high powered hook. The hunter's hook hand had a 90% chance of inducing poison, if it hit skin.

The second hunter didn't attack, but tried to look straight into Lapis's eyes. If Lapis returned the gaze, then she'd be paralyzed for a turn or two, unless she had a high defense against Mind techniques.

(ooc: While reading your profile for the netherworld hunters, it occured to me that it should read "...a force to be reckoned with", as how it is now it looks weird.)

Lapis smiles as the first hunter approaches. She rushes at it at the same time as it begins the claw attack, deftly deflecting it with the left knife as she leaps high over the hook, jamming the right knife hard into the creature's head from below. The white aura surrounding the knives causes them to deal triple damage in a random combination of the elements, a fact probably high on the nightmare's list of Things to Notice as Lapis brings up her left knife as she withdraws her right, beginning a long combinaton attack... thrust, slash, slash, thrust, slash, thrust, then somersaulting away from the target to face the other hunter. She stares it on evenly, the magic in her eyes, and prepares for whatever attack is coming...

(ooc: as always, if Lapis can't hit with any of her attacks in the combo, the rest won't happen, and she'll skip to the jump. The first hit isn't part of the combo, so she'll do the combo even if the first attack misses. If you think this is a little extreme, think about how long she's had to charge up, and the fact that her Heaven & Earth went off last turn. When you took four normal slashes and a weak hit, you took 20 damage... so each normal slash does around 4.5. Triple damage over seven hits = 4.5 * 21 = 94.5. Hmm. I'll need to tone this down. But hey, it's a summon, who cares? I'll fix the attack for later.)

The hunter was hit by the first dagger strike, and flipped backward, angrily clutching its head. It was still unfocused when Lapis thrusted a second time, and this one connected with its bony chest. However, before Lapis could continue her combo, the hunter leaped out of the way with unearthly agility. From its new position, it moaned as black blood splattered everywhere, but eventually began chanting for a spell.

Assuming that Lapis had now been imobilized by its magic stare, the second netherworld hunter lunged at Lapis, attempting to grab on to her and bite her in the jugular.

Lapis stands motionless as the cat approaches, knowing that the Heaven and Earth spell had deflected an interesting attack. She rolls to her right at the last instant before the hunter can grab her, then touches the tips of her knives together. There is a horrible squeking noise as they resist touching each other, then a loud hiss as a beam of light shoots out from the point of convergence, aimed straight at the torso of the monstrosity whose attack she had just avoided. The ray radiates a special kind of coldness, so impossibly cold that it comes out the other side and can actually burn many objects. This unnatural cold spreads out to about five feet of radius around the the hair-width sunbeam. The grass in this area develops a frost, then melts, and the air is filled with blue steam for an instant. Aimed slightly downwards, the ray itself hits the ground about 100 feet in front of Lapis, where it dissipates. Should it touch an obstacle, such as a hunter, before then, it will explode into a gigantic ball of frozen fire.

The hunter, quite confident that it would connect with Lapis, was caught completely off guard by her sudden dodge and lost its balance. Still, a Netherworld hunter losing its balance is still quite graceful by human standards. It dodged the sunbeam, but the ice beam hit its torso, its weakest spot. With her attack upped as it was, Lapis was able to subdue the hunter, though it was possible she'd have been able to even if she wasn't powered.

The first hunter finished chanting, and a bizarre golden object appeared above its head. The odd thing about the object was that it had no shape - or rather, it kept shifting shape. It wasn't solid, either. It could have been a sort of fog. This object starting slowly homing into Lapis on the hunter's commanding yowl, and it would deal medium damage if it struck. As it didn't exist in the physical world, it couldn't be blocked by physical means, either.

After this, the cat demon circled Lapis, ready to act the moment she did anything.

As the first hunter fell, a sudden wind blows across the plains, the body and spirit of the catlike creature being turned to dust and blown over the tall grass, headed towards the Ivory Tower...

And as Lapis watches this, she neglects to watch her other opponent. The strange projectile smashes into her from behind, knocking her forward and off her feet. She catches herself with her hands, and jumps backwards on them, twisting in midair to face the orb. Next, she thrusts out with both knives in midair to destroy it with the banishing power of the Heaven & Earth spell, rapidly switching between material and spirit worlds to ensure a hit. Whether or not this attack succeeds, she then points her right knife towards the remaning demon, muttering a quick incantation under her breath. A tiny beam of light shines down from the true moon, the eclipse having vanished, aimed to strike the hunter with medium amounts of arcane energy.

(ooc: I read your profiles again, and decided to have this do Arcane, for reference reasons. Two weak attacks this turn, instead of a single strong attack.)
