The concert I watched on TV - it was awesome. But what exactly is it for?

*takes big gulp of water*

That was one of the Live 8 drinking game points - big gulp whenever someone asks what the concert was about. I mean, the point was only driven home around eighty billion times by Bob Geldof and almost every performer that took the stage.

The sheer millions of people who ask that question and what do you use for a drinking game? Water. Unbelieveable. All that water that could've gone to dehydrated African children...

Place - Well we could have used the only other drink that was available in Hyde Park - Red Bull but if I had to drink THAT much Red Bull I'd be like a human version of the Crazy Frog

Alrighty, all you high brow musos are scoffing at the line up, who would you RATHER have played Hyde Park? Put it this way at least there was no GIrls Aloud there

Also, being there is a different thing entirely to watching it on TV. Stating the obvious I know, and yes I know that Keane, Coldpay, Dido et al were all mellow performances, but it meant that the audience went through the whole gamut of human emotions, believe me - we had plenty of opportunity to rock!

You say "high brow muso" like it's a bad thing. Also why is it that you like The Spice Girls but seem to have disdain for Girls Aloud?

I like both. I was being sarcastic.

Me? I'd have loved it if both had shown.

Put it this way, Live 8's purpose was to attract publicity, instead of a celebration of music. it's SUPPOSED to be populist. What's wrong with that? if you want high-brow music, then go to Glastonbury.

Actually, if you want high-brow music, go to Sonar or All Tomorrow's Parties. But to the point, the thing with Glastonbury is that it's not helping the Africans is it? For some reason, you and many others have this theory that good music and charity are mutually exclusive entities, which isn't the case and shouldn't be the case. Hence why you get a lot of these naysayers. I remember back when the Band Aid 20 single came out a phrase that I heard a lot was "I'd rather just give them the

Well, if I had something with more oomph in it, I would have drank that! All I had was raspberry water to begin with so...

The Stones should have played Barrie since they were in Toronto anyways practicing for their upcoming tour. :\ It was rumored up until the actual day of the concert itself but never materialized.

I heard the Spice Girls were supposed to make their returning debut at Live 8, but ended up having to cancel because one member hadn't made up her mind yet about the group getting back together.
What a shame. Those peoples' lives would have been spiced up.

I heard that they were considered for it, but Geldof thought they didn't really fit into the grand scheme of things.

That's what I didn't get. Kanye goes onstage and is rapping about putting your diamonds in the air...that's only one example, but I thought there was poor song selection by some.
