The only rapture i'm concerned with is the song by iio.

Seriously, that Fired Up! 2 ad JUST WON'T GO AWAY. Anything about iio in Revelations?

One of the biggest keys to the beginning of the rapture is the stopping of the War in Israel.

Has that happened? No. And I didn't see you provide any REAL facts. Next time you make such a thread, be sure to have much more than 3 sentences.

At least I laughed.

I don't see the war in Israel stopping any time soon, so we're safe from Jesus's wrath for the time being.

I liked return of the jedi better, to be honest.

I dislike what a lot of religions say. So I'm supposed to take what a book written centuries ago seriously? All the superstitions from those times will doubtless have made their way into it. I'm not a man to beleive in something blindly. They said the world was going to end in 1984, and you know what? It didn't. That, and why didn't jesus come during Hitler's reign of terror? Those were some of the worst times this world has known, yet no one said a damn thing about jesus helping.

What I also dislike is how so many christians are adamantly close minded. Any view that differs from their own is automaticaly wrong and the persons holding these views are going to hell. That kind of blind intolerance is idiotic. Beleiving in a religion blindly is just as idiotic. I would rather form my own opinions on this world than rely on the words of dead men in such a way.

Ah, doesn't surprise me.

I'm a born and raised Christian and I really don't believe the full extent of Revelations, I even overheard my parents recently argueing about things in the Bible, that seem totally "impossible".

And I can't remember the last time I attended church, so I'm a loosely based Christian ...

I won't blow up with you, and I don't mean this to just you, but I think it's ridiculous how often you people single out Christian's / Christianity and blame them about everything. I see this here, and I see this on so many other messageboards, it's almost funny how close minded YOU are being about them.

Here's a tip, don't Generalize.

Of course I'm generalizing! I know that not every christian is some impossibly close minded jerk. I'm just bitter because I've lost some close friends due to religious differences and it's BULLSHIT. You misunderstand me. I generalize like a son of a bitch when I feel irritated or frustrated without compuction. As for me being close minded? Well... I would like to think that when all is said and done I'm fairly open minded. If I dislike someone there's probably a good reason for it. But, well... you can think what you like. No skin off my back.

I would advise you not to take the internet too seriously. It's honestly not worth caring what some jack ass says. There are much more constructive ways to waste your time on the computer.

Guess you missed that part?

So I guess you're right, but still, you got your point out, I got mine out. Fair enough.

Well, the Vietnam and World Wars were FAR FAR worse than what's going on today. Why wouldn't he appear then?

This post made me laugh. For the record, I am a believing atheist.

During the last century, there was not a single year nobody announced Jesus would return within the next five years. (Or L. Ron Hubbard will, which is still more likely than the first one)

"Children are exposed to adult material."
Does it also say up to which age you count as a child? And how exactly does it define adult material?

While I do believe that the rapture is true I do not believe that it is coming "soon." I am sorry if I make you feel bad but just saying because war is going on and such doesnt make sense. Jews are God's "chosen" people and yet millions of Jews were killed in WWII. Many thought that WWII was the end of the world. I dont think it will happen for a long time now...

Anyone who takes a word written in the bible, especially the old testament and books like Revalations, needs to have their head examined. This is why cults like "Heaven's Gate" spawn up - because someone takes something written in the bible too literally. It's also why Muslim extremists exist. They're both the same. Incapable of realizing the bible was written entirely by humans and is, at best, a 4th-hand (if not 100th-hand) account of what may or may not have happened.

Remember how the book says that the world is flat and rests on the back of a giant turtle?

Always a fan favorite.

Religion is not bad.

Religious extremism is!

Religions present a very important facet of culture and society and to dismiss them as pish-posh is as ignorant to the truth as it is for people to blatently and flat out deny the importance of science or questioning religion.

Ziff: I never said that religion is all bad. There are proven benefits in the belief of a God or higher being: Less stress, less occurances of depression, longer and more peaceful lives, etc.

But there's one thing to believe in a religion and go to church. It's another to say "The return of Jesus is very near."

I know of very intelligent people who believe in God (I'm neither intelligent nor theist xD). But I don't know of very intelligent people who say things like "The end is near" - only wackjobs.

Exactly!

One thing that is getting me though is how everyone is saying (not on this board) that it is Christian doctrine that does this. It is EVERY religion's doctrine. You know Zen Buddhists. They have extremist terrorists too. Asahara and his Supreme Truth movement are pretty notable.

Everyone blames Catholics because they're the most notable. Everyone knows of the crusades, the inquisition, the mass conversions in the Americas, and WWII. Plus, Christianity has been around for 2000 years and coincidentally, that's when the best written historical records started to be kept. We can't say how many tribes of cavemen would kill other tribes because they believed their pagan gods were better. But I bet it's a lot Hell, even the Amer-Indians had wars for Gods. The Aztecs and Mayas were notorious for it.

The Aboriginals of North America weren't too notable for that...and it was mostly the Beothuk/Mic'Maq wars as well as the Huron/Iriqious wars (I can get you an AWESOME book about the life of St. Jean de Brebouf of the Huron). The Maya and Aztec on the other hand.

When the Aztec civilization was at its zenith it was doing 1 000 000 human sacrifices a year. That's pretty bad ass.

As for the Catholics, we kind of have a bad history
But after around 1600 we slowed the dickery down a considerable amount. Then the doomsday cults were primarily protestant movements
