It's from the song Do You Realise by the Flaming Lips. Get the song, it's on their album Yoshimi Battles the Pink Robots. The lyrics alone do not do the song justice.

You wont know you're dead when you're dead. Your conscious will just cease to be. So really, there's nothing to be scared about.

I don't get it. Atheists have absolutely nothing to fear of death. We know where we're going. Nowhere.

(I don't believe any religious things either, just in case.)

What I think about it, is that you try your best to make your life a great thing,
a life that other people will want to live, a very good one,
and be proud of the life you lived.

--------- + ----------- + ---------- + --------- + ----------- + ----------

The Groundhog Day thing would be impossible, with my logic I came up with.

Say that you died.
(OK it seems very creepy, but this is how it goes)
Say that every living creature in the universe was dead, and nothing to produce life was not there anymore.
In order to live again you need a body.
There is no body.
You can't live.

BUT -
the problem is there are hypernatural(?) abilities such as seeing ghosts, hearing things in your dream, etc.
If they are true.

I don't think we 'know' where we're going. Just because we (Atheists) don't believe in god, does it mean we're just going to go poof?

the concept of the afterlife is dependent on what you want to believe--traditionally, atheist rejects the notion that there is a deity...it says nothing about whether there is an afterlife or not...

Well, I'm Christian ... so yeah.

But I've also had these weird ideas that we may be born into another life, like another world, or live as an animal or something, seriously.

... Yeah.

Dying is the kindof thing I would think about when I watch a movie about world destruction or something. I fear an early death and I think I'll die young (when I am about 28 or so). My illness still hasn't gone away despite my treatments.
I am afraid to die young because I have a daughter and my fiance to worry about. I cannot just leave them; I have things to live for.

It would be more interesting if you can become a ghost though, if I suddenly died and became one, I would be a little pissed at first. I would find people who screwed me over and scare the living crap outta them.

Well I'm Catholic, and well yeah I believe in the afterlife and all that good shit. Honestly, I'm not scared of death, and since I believe in afterlife, I really don't care whether or not I go to hell. Because honestly, why worry about any of it. Have fun living your life and things will be okay.

If you look at it, the egyptians talked an awful lot of the afterlife and the trials they had to go thorugh in oder to be 'reborn'. Maybe we have to jump through hoops and stuff? o.o

Gonna knock this over to Officer's...but I really couldn't tell you if I'm afraid of it or not. I mean no one can really say they aren't afraid of death because not knowing in anything seems to produce at least some sort of fear in someone. Not a single person here could tell me what lies after death; you can try, but you don't know. You all have your beliefs just like the next person and most of them are respectable enough to pass.

Now whether that's taken into curiosity or not by the individual or just ways to find a way away from it, I can't really tell you; that's up to the person. I'm just in the stage where I'm living life so I really couldn't tell you if I'm afraid of getting deep sixed or not. I'm too busy to care and it's not like it's something I focus on 24-7 either. Doesn't make for very good conversation.

Me, I'm not afraid of death. I've always had this feeling I'm going to live to see the year 2100 anyway (and the year following). In fact, I've alway pinned the year of my death to 2107; I don't know why.

As Dumbledore said, death is the start of the next great adventure. I also remember Gandalf describing it (in RotK), but I can't remember exactly what he said.

As far as the afterlife goes, I think the user (the one behind the mind and body--the you you--the one who is attached to a mind and body and for the duration of that life remains with it) will get detached, but will continue to exist in some form. (Whether or not this user is destructable I do not know.)

I would advise against simply not thinking about it anymore. It's unhealthy to refuse the profound thoughts that wander into your mind. Ones own mortality is something to be contemplated. When ignored, it only hurts that much more.

For all my conscious life, I've pondered death and decided to scoff at reincarnation, citing that there are more people now than there ever have been. However, the other day, I was meditating and entertained a thought I had never experienced before. Keep dreams in mind as you read on, because in dreams, you don't actually feel or see, taste or hear, touch or speak, but you think you do. That's what I saw; the self existing in a dreamlike state where there is no corporeal matter, only incorporeal thought. Not necessarily a spirit or soul. I thought of there being an infinite number of unique "selves" existing in this dreamlike state. Rarely, one of these selves is borne in the corporeal world. When the creature dies, the self reverts to this dreamlike state. Since there are an infinite number of selves, the liklihood that a specific one will be re-inserted to the corporeal world is extremely low. So it's technically reincarnation, but not in the traditional sense of, "If you're good, you come back as a human or go to a happy place - if you're bad you come back as a bug and are squished underfoot."

This vision was strange. I saw a universe expanding infinitely in all directions, faintly bluish in color, with white strings of energy running laterally. At a point in each string was a sac with an X, Y and Z axis position all to it's own. In each of these infinite sacs on these infinite strings in this infinite universe was an embryonic-like humanoid, devoid of hair, curled up like a fetus, almost as if suspended in liquid. This, of course, begs one to question whether this universe is directed, whether there is a director, if you will, a "god" or perhaps multiple "gods." I cannot say, but above all, this vision reassured me of one thing. There is nothing to fear. No matter what happens, once you die, you won't care anymore, either because you become so elated, or because you simply cease to be. A song lyric, actually, came to mind.

"There was nothing to fear; nothing at all..."

The Valcion says...
USE MAGIC TO KILL DEATH.

But yeah, he's scary at first, but once you figure out how to avoid his attacks hes a piece of cake.

Four, only four videogames have ever seriously disturbed me, stricken fear into my psyche. One of them is Gauntlet. Why? Because of Death. That horrible sound...

Death has never really been a bother for me, more concerned about family members and if they died... then again, could be because no one close in our family has really died, just distant relatives that I didn't attend the funeral for.

My first thought on reading the title was "...um, because it's scary?"

Slay, what are the other three?

Mine was Shadowman 64. I still don't know how I forced myself to finish it.
