Ugh. You probably didn't press F9 in order to save custom background tiles in the Map16. All this information is in Lunar Magic's help file and repeated in the stickied threads. Don't make new threads about it.

Death, open the map 16 tile window, and THEN hit F9. Hit enter, and then it'll save. Hitting the button in the regular window won't work. Same goes for the 8x8 tiles.

The only other thing I can think of is you're using the wrong page for your BG tiles. To fix this, look at your Map16 and find the page number of your BG tiles. Then go into "Level"--> "Change Map16 page" and make sure the number matches the one you have your BG tiles on.

Also, is the black BG in the first screen your BG you want to use for the level, or did you turn the BG off in the editor? If that is the BG, you can simply get a plain black BG by copying the BG from level F7, all without messing with the Map16 at all.

you could go into the change level header window and change properties in header to #2 and that will erase the BG, make it the BG color set in the palette editor, and make the layer 2 space for level
