My Internet Explorer is messing up. I can not get into the internet options it gives me the message :

Restrictions: The operations have been cancelled due to restrictions in effect on this computer. PLease contact your system administrator.

Thing is I am the system administrator. Please help. I am running windows XP with all of the latest patches...

maybe you actually have to be in the administrator account. however, i'm not sure how you can get to that unless you are in Safe Mode...

Well I went into safe mode and then got into the Administrator and I was able to tweak some settings to more favorable www.google.com than www.msn.com. But that only worked on the administrator account and I still can't get into the internet options on mine.

maybe...you somehow took yourself out of the administrator group...probably by accident and probably not done by you. maybe if you can check out the user account control panel to see if you are a computer administrator?

if you did that, then check to see if you are in the administrators group. you can get to there by going to control panel->admin tools->computer management->local users->groups->double click on administrators. i would guess if you are a computer administrator, you should be in the administrators group...

Umm...There is no local users group...

control panel->admin tools->computer management->Event Veiwer,Shared Folders,Performance Logs, Device Manager.

So there is another way to get to it in Xp Home Right? I am still an Admin according to Users in the Control Panel.

Bah, XP Home sucks. Try this in DOS (go to Start -> Run, then type 'cmd' or 'command' to get there):

net your name /ADD administrators
net localgroup administrators your name /ADD

At least one of those should work, if Home supports them. You'll probably have to do it from an admin account though.

Or mabye you should just go into Control Panel, "Switch to Classic View" because catagories suck, and then click the "USERS" one.

Then, assuming you can, play with the settings a bit [Create a new admin account, check your account settings, blah, blah, blah]...

I tried both of the things that Hyper said and well it said I am already a member of the Localgroup. And well I made a new Admin account and it can get into the internet options but I still can't. The only reason I have XP Home is becuase I could not afford the Pro version when I had to get a new OS and also they said they couldn't sell me the Pro Version...

have you tried scanning your computer for spyware? it is a long shot...but if that too doesn't work...then something in the windows registry is messed up about your profile that might only be fixed by editing the registry

I scanned it for spyware...nothing found...I think I will have to mod the registry...I am pretty confident about doing that though...Do you know what I would have to modify?

While logged in as an admin's account, try this:

Click: Start => Settings => Control Panel => Admin Tools => Computer Management

From there, expand 'Local Users and Groups' and go into the Users category. Right-click your username, and click Properties. On the 'Members Of' tab, just add yourself to the Administrators group.

I do believe he said there is no such option in Home. Apparently the problem isn't not being an admin, it's something screwy with IE. Might have to reinstall it.

Do you mean reinstall XP?!?! Or just IE? I'm going to reinstall IE right, if it's possible, now but I am not going to reinstall XP...

Edit: I found out what the problem was...I am so stupid, I forgot that as soon as I installed XP I set up Spybot S&D to make it so that IE can't do shit. Sorry for wasting your time and boggling your minds...At least you know of one more thing that could cause the problem now....(Can be Closed Now)
