I've finally gotten to the point where I feel I can show the face of COTMK 2 a little more. Here are 11 more screenshots from some of the earlier levels and Mushroom City. Yes, they are Bmp's, but next time they will be PNG's. Please, My excuse is I have to printscreen them and paste in paint because my computer is too slow for the zsnes screenshot function on bmp, and horrible on png.

Iggy Road:

Mario's House:

Quaint Valley 1:

Mushroom City:

This is the first part of a banking system that will allow mario to hold up to 999 coins in the bank.

The screens are a little bland. The Mushroom City looks nice, but it could really use some color. Also... your screenshots are in .bmp form. I suggest remeding that before your host dies.

Well...I agree about more color being needed, and about needing to change the screenshots' format, but I don't think photobucket.com will be "dying" anytime soon, even if he leaves the images in BMP format.

Stop complaining about the format and comment on the pictures guys. I'm sure that almost all of you have a faster computer than mine, and mine will load them up before I can scroll down the page. Anyway, here are my comments:

1. The ground is nice, the rain looks okay. Does the rain use layer 1, 2, or 3? It's kinda hard to tell, but I'm guessing layer 1. Your status bar isn't the most attractive thing, but at least it doesn't change thruout your screenshots.

2. Same as above. It all looks good.

3. You made a mistake here. You linked to the wrong image. That is unless mario lives outside on clouds.

4. That water is fuckin nice. You seem to make everything in all these shots fir in with the original graphics very nicely! Good job.

5. Very pretty. I like how its all monotones of brown. The vines stick out like a sore thumb, so I suggest making them a shade of brown. Or adding greenery (vines, moss, flowers etc.) on the buildings. That would look awesome. Also change the window platforms. Make them shorter and wider, and it will look much better. Right now it looks like they are holding the window! Oh, and add some windows to the item shop.

6. Kinda plain. Maby add in some furniture or something to make it less dull. It looks good other than the emptyness tho.

7. A banking system outside? Thats kinda strange. And there are no tellers or jumping toads or anything. This is also very plain. You need to liven these kinds of places up with details! I like the idea, but where are the items you can buy? Also make the blocks shadowed like everything else seems to be. They seem to flat in that shot.

8. Looks nice.

Overall, this hack looks promising. I would play this for sure when it is released. Good job, add some details to your levels (and enemies. All I saw was 1 fish), and your good to go. Keep up the good work. Also, read your PM's please...

It looked to me like the rain was in the background. You should go ahead and use layer 3 to get the rain in the front, because in the background like that it looks messed up.

I gorta shay, yous did a prity goodz jorb theyr.
Mray i surdsgests putings like a gradiants in da barkgrounds theyrs.

That is what i would say if i was coach Z...... but im not.

Anyhow, yeah you should try a gradiant of colors comeing down in the backdrop.

That may work out.

But i think that more background colors would help.

Show me a more-or-less up-to-date, internet-capable PC which lags on BMP because of CPU speed.
The thing we are talking about is connection speed. Bitmap is awful for 56k or even ISDN users, and we have quite many of them, I believe.

Also, quit acting like you were a moderator of some sorts.

I'm 56k, though, and I think we can all agree that my suffering makes up for the suffering of everyone else.

Really though I hate you, and the screens are all quite bland, the majority of the graphics would appear to be unchanged and the stuff that IS new is blander than the originals. Most of the screenshots are of the same few things over and over again, and there would appear to be only one enemy in all of the screenshots put together. Now THAT'S blandless. Well maybe there's enemies in the second iggy road screen and the mario's house screen, but you see, they're not loading for me.

Mod!? Whatever, I was just saying to stop complaining. If you would all do your job, then I wouldn't have to suggest for others not to state not to use BMP's when he said he was sorry they were BMP's in his first post! Others do it all the time, and I don't see them getting talked to. Before Kyouji became moderator, he told people what to do, how to act, this and that. No ban or being talked to for him. I could show you a computer, a 56k modem computer, but I don't have a picture of mine. Mine loads everything very fast, yet it's a piece of crap. Anyway, it doesn't matter. I don't want to fill up darkflights thread with spam.

So, darkflight, sorry for the above, and once again your game looks very nice. I was trying to find the URL for mario's house, but I wasn't able to. I can't wait to see how you did it. I'm sure it will look very cool.

You should be more concerned with yourself than what others are being told. But that's besides the point, I've had a couple of chats with our friend Blisseh over here about such matters.

Using bitmaps are a waste of bandwidth for both parties, they've the potential to be the largest format picture ever. These ones, however, are not TOO painfully large (so I won't be editting them into links as I would in some cases), but still, they're much larger than they have to be. I encourage you to save everyone's time in the future, DarkFlight, and save in a smaller image format. FYI, Paint CAN save PNGs, and in fact, I use Paint for all my screenshots.

Not Paint for Windows 98.

Plus, isn't this topic getting off-topic?

Yeah, my paint only saves in bitmap as well. Go Windows ME.

Google Irfanview, that's a neat little program that converts to practically any graphics format, and you can do batches of pictures too. Yarooh.

To be on topic...Mushroom city is too damned brown. It's got no variety. The graphical style is fine, but it needs more color. And bland is definitely the word I'd use to describe all but the second and third screenshots, since those don't load. Needs more...uh...not boringness. Also, the ground in the first shot just looks like you just put random pixels of color in there.

EDIT: Well, the second and third picture loaded, but they seem to be the same picture. Oh boy. Yeah, the ground in those sucks. (Better than I could probably do, but that's really not saying a lot)

OK, I forgot to say that the town tileset is still beta. I can't do .png's yet, because those pictures were taken on a win98 version of paint (no built-in filters) and I haven't installed any filters or anything I could use to convert the image. The reason there are no enemies is because I defeated them all so I'd be able to mke more shots. If you really want I can take other shots as well, I suppose. Yes, that IS an item shop, although not as good as BMF's, and a banmking system with deposit/ withdrawl capabilities. Also, the reason the GFX fits in is because it is original GFX drawn over the old stuff. Mostly the Graphics edits have been token, and the bland color in the town tileset is because I was using SMRPG as an idea base and I copied the fact that all of the were the same colour.

#6 is a secret area (or it will be in the final), so it has no reason to be "super-de-duper", nor will I put too much more effort into that area until it is realy needed. At the end I am planning to have edited all, or almost all of the original graphics to how I like them.

I didn't mention it before, but that is one horribly ugly status bar. It would look better if you used less colors. Also you removed the time counter and added nothing in its place, simply leaving a distracting void which should probably be filled.

That banking system actually sounds pretty nifty. I should get around to implementing some sort of banking thing for my hack or other. I implemented this crap level system. A good coin system would blow it out of the water.

GP, then when I finish the code, I will send it to you.

Also, nothing is final and all input is duly noted. Besides, did you notice the nasty mistake with the item box right side? And yes, the bar is ugly right now, I am in complete agreement.

It rains too much in Iggy Road

I suppose you could have a bank hold coins in case of a game over, but couldn't you have Mario hold 4 digits worth of coins as well? I mean, you might as well go all out with the ASM hack, right? Then you could have some really good items cost more. Like what? I dunno. Just a suggestion.
