Is there other people here who work/study in the Medical/Health Care profession, who may worry about the lack of evidence based practice that occurs in some of their own and other related fields? It scares me to hear of the amount of treatments being sold to patients that simply either have not been proven or have been shown to be of little benefit? Should there be a closer eye on 'professionals' who practice methods that have clearly been discounted or useless in substantial literature? Others in the industry, what is your own personal philosophy on this topic? Tris |

I don't work in that profession, but I do indeed find such a prospect worrisome. But the other problem is that it seems to me that doctors disagree on lots of things. | |||

Well, I know I'm pissed at my former doctor, but I dunno if this relates really to what you're talking about. I'm still on Zoloft, an SSRI-type antidepressant. And it's been giving me side effects galore, without any proven benefit. Yet, my former doctor IGNORED me when I said I had side effects, everything was just "normal" as far as he was concerned. When I got REALLY sick from the side effects, he took blood tests -- twice -- and still couldn't tell me what was wrong. Turns out I shouldn't even be on Zoloft. |

Next time your doctor tries to give you antibiotics when you come to him with the flu, bitchslap him. Because he's trying to make a buck off of you and the antibiotics won't do dick. (edited by Melvin on 04-09-04 03:38 PM) |
