This movie got some bad criticism, and honestly I did find myself somewhat disappointed with it.

But, it's not something I walked out and said "That was a waste" to.

If you're a Mayizaki fan, I'd recommend this movie. Just don't go in expecting a Mononoke-Nausica-Castle in the Sky-Spirited Away ... you get the picture.

To me the movie just felt really "slow", it never really grabbed me or anything.

But it still had great animation, incredible music and scenery, and decent characters (Calcifur, the Fire was the best).

Expect some great voice acting too (if you're going to see it in theaters or something), Christian Bale does the voice of Howl, Billy Crystal as Calcifur, and other well known actors were in there.

It just seems like one of those movies you'll either like or won't like.

I'm still trying to find out if it's even going to be on at the Cinemas here in Australia/Adelaide or not. I'm going to be annoyed if it isn't.

Adelaide sucks so much sometimes.

Yeah, it was a good experience for me. This was the first anime I've seen in theaters, of course it was in one of the smaller theaters (it only had 4 showings yesterday, at an AMC 30, so yeah it was kind of bad), so it was really cool seeing anime on a huge screen.

But yeah, times were rare, and it was in one of the smaller theaters. I'm surprised it even showed here.

So, good luck with that.

I'll probably be one of many that will want to see it at least once.

I'm not really a sucker for reviews anyways.

I will likely check it out although I still haven't seen Spirited Away yet. :\

Reviews are mixed but in a weird way - the "negative" reviews I've seen still talk about how it's a good cartoon, but just... not up to Miyazaki's usual standards. So it's one of those "good but failed to meet high expectations" things.

On the other hand, the Gazette in Montreal gave the thing *****. So yeah.

Considering I really haven't seen any Miyazaki work, I'd probably enjoy the film more than most. But we'll see.

Screw that, though. As soon as I saw the trailer, I knew it was going to be exactly like every other Studio Ghibli film, except without the typical redeeming twist. It just looks so... Generic. And from what I heard from everyone, I'm glad I didn't see it.

Then you've been missing on some of the greatest movies ever.

You should seriously check out:
- Princess Mononoke
- Nausica and the Valley of Wind
- Castle in the Sky

And probably a few others.

They're nowhere near being "good", they're all an experience.

I so want to see this movie but I'll have to wait till it comes out on video. Seeing as I don't want to travel to Madison just to go see it. I've seen Spirited Away and Princess Mononoke, which both I absolutly loved by him.

Saw it back in January in Lausanne, it certainly is no Sen to Chihiro or Nausica
