Like the post your bedroom game, but this time with your computer!

I'm upgrading mine at the moment, but I lack a CPU. I bought my housemate's PC, but he bought back the case and CPU. I bought a new case, and I am awaiting an Athlon XP 3000+.

Here's my new PC, and my shiny new case. (You can click on the inside photo to see it bigger, but not the rest)

Will be an Athlon XP 3000+, has 1Gb RAM, 160Gb HDD, Radeon 9700 (when all finished, awaiting CPU)

And for comparison, my old PC (and also my gaming PC; which is an old Pentium for the playing of old games)

Pentium 4 1.8Ghz, 512Mb RAM, 40Gb HDD, GeForce2.
Buggered if I know the specs of the older Pentium offhand

Like my "front USB" ?

Post your PC!

EDIT: And while I remember, do we have any casemodders here? My brother is looking to mod his case, and I was just wondering if anybody here was a casemodder, and what mods you've done?

He wants to cut a hole in the side of my case.....

EDIT EDIT: And Kasumi reminded me to post my specs!

Laptop Chiyo, used for development. I keep all my development confined to the laptop because then I only have to use one platform for all my C++, Java, HTML, Photoshop, PHP and Python stuff at home, halls and uni. I also use it for WoW, because it's the most powerful of all my PCs until I upgrade Yorda.
Sony VAIO
1.6 MhZ Pentium M Centrino
GeForce 6200 128MB Graphics
512 MB DDR RAM
15" Widescreen Dual Backlit TFT screen
Wireless LAN, although currently networked with Ethernet.

Desktop Yorda, used for surfing, IMing and linked to my hi-fi to play music.
AMD Athlon 1.4 GhZ
GeForce 2 Pro 64 MB DDR RAM
256 DDR RAM
17" Mitsubishi Diamondtron Monitor with Superbright.

Linux Desktop Chi, used as a random server for files and MP3s. I can stream my MP3 collection across the network so I can access my playlists on my brother's PC and my Dad's PC too. I'm also learning how to use Linux with it. Runs Ubuntu Linux 5.04.
Dell 1.6MhZ Pentium 4
256 MB RAM
GeForce 2 MX graphics.

Her first shot also looks so similar to one I took a while ago I thought it was mine. But mine was only 320x240, so clicking it quickly revealed otherwise.

*busts out the CrapCam -5000*

Crappy combination of 2 blurry pics showing the monitor, TV and computer.

Close-up.

I bet if a robot saw this it'd throw up. I never bothered to screw the case back on last time I was in there. I need to mod it sometime...

I forgot to take pics of the other computer and it doesn't want to start up anyway, so bah.

Photograph of my computer

Computer specs:
  • CPU: AMD Athlon XP 2200+, 1.8GHz
  • RAM: 256MB DDR400
  • HDDs: (1) 4GiB (with Win98SE); (2) 9.3GiB (with Slackware 10.0, which is my primary OS)
  • Monitor: 17" flatscreen CRT; display = 1280x1024 32bpp
Some of the keys on the keyboard are getting worn out (see, for example, the top half of the 'E' key, which has busted clean through). To the left you can see all manner of stuff ranging from an ashtray to a $20 bill to a long since empty pack of matches. I'm not a very tidy person, as you can see.

Okay, now I don't feel so bad about the way my desk used to look. Egads.

Current desktop photo fun time! Please stay behind the ragged rope curtain as you peruse the exhibit.

Clockwise from top:

1) Pile of assorted toys and doo-dads. The menacing thing on the left is called a "Helping Hand" (sold at Radio Shack). It has clamps to hold wires, PCBs, and other electronic components in place while you solder or do other intricate work. I love it. <3

2) Leaning Tower of CDs (and also Nerds). Directly to the left is a compressed gas duster and my routers. In front is one of my old Labtec speakers, which helps to provide surround sound.

3) Silver Eclipse. She lights up blue at night.

4) Blobby and the shell of an old boombox. The speakers were hacked out and screwed to the back of my desk (either side behind the monitor), while all the equalizer controls remained conveniently located on top of the box. This provides somewhat crappy pseudo-surround sound.

5) Flatbed scanner. Rarely used.

6) What's that smell?

7) Two subwoofers and a mess of power cords. A 4-port KVM switch is also down here (3 computers + one Dreamcast VGA box).

8) Microchip.

9) Assorted crap. Floppy disks, ROM hacking notes, a magazine, my next car payment, and a prototype Famicom cartridge. The container on the left holds pistachios.

10) What remains of my "corner of tranquility." That green thing is a miniature fountain. To the left (outside the frame) are a model lighthouse and neat Wyland whale sculpture. The flashlight and bottle of rubbing alcohol add a touch of...uh...clutter.

11) Shelves of Crap.

And I stuck a big fat blue glowy fan on it Which I can't see, cause the case is closed. (I'm not as concerned with how it looks but rather how it works.)

Course, I intend to add other cool stuff to my compy, will post a niiiice photo when I'm done.

Jeez, Tarale, pretty big box for something so small.

Well since I got the other computer running again (though not running anything in particular until I get around to installing an OS ), here's some crappy pics of it too.

Ph34r the cardboard and duct tape easy-access custom-built case.

Front panel with wires hanging out. Yes it says 'ICE' on the display, I couldn't think of anything better.

More blurry guts.

Well, my pics are large and I don't feel like shrinking them so just click the link if you want.
PIC1
PIC2

As for the specs
Processor : P4 3.2gHz 2mb cache 64bit 800 mHz fsb
Vcard : GeForce 6600 256mb PCIe
Scard : Sound Blaster Audigy-2 ZS 7.1
Memory : 1 gb
HDs : 2 x 80gb and 1 x 120 gb eternal
Case : Raidmax Scorpio-668 Aluminum
Power Supply : 500 watts
Network : onboard lan and wireless pci card
Monitor : 17" Sceptre LCD
Sound : 2.1 sicuro system (and a 5.1 Klipisch at my bro's house for storage over the summer that's a 500 watt system, yay for loud speakers and strong subs)

Well, someone peed on my old computer so the insurance bought me a brand new one, which is amazing. It's got three fans, I'm thinking of moving the one on the side window to the front and getting a color led fan. Also, it's got a blue cathode on the bottom and I want to add another one near the top to get better lighting in the case. The motherboard was made by Abit and i bought the computer from iBuyPower. I really like the computers they have there. My hard drives are split into four partitions each (minus the external which is well over halfway filled with music). The main HD is a 60 gb winXP and the rest is Ubuntu linux, but I'm going to put on a Gentoo Distro cause I don't really like Ubuntu. The second hd is split into four partitions one for games, pictures, websites, and school work. Here's a full screen print screen of my desktop with partition magic showing the HDs. And my background is a picture of a bunch of my friends and me in the freezing cold (or inside trying to hide from being in the freezeing cold).

Yeah, I know, and it's not like they fill up the rest of the space with a decent heat-sink and fan either o.o (Thus the custom one)

I want a big flatscreen monitor.

Pardon the small bump but I had to show off this simple but cool case mod:

I just bought an outdoor thermometer and stuck the sensor in the CPU's heat sink. (You wouldn't believe how much crud was in it, even though it looked clean. No wonder it's been running slow. ) It's running at 35.4 degrees right now. Plus I can switch it to display the room temperature, which is 28.4. (Pretty hot!) It can do Farenheight too, but Farenheight sucks.

You migtht also notice the LED sticking out, that's the power LED. I popped it out of place and can't get it back in.

What's a good operating temperature for an 800mhz Celery anyway?

Yeah, therm disps are cool. I got one of those and I use it as my room temperature monitor, becuase I've found that my computer changes temperature with the room perfectly, which is good, that means the fans and all are working, but it's bad considering it's been 95+ for the past few days, i can't wait to get back to freezing indiana where my computer will run at -100 degrees, or maybe more like 5

And yes, Celcius is just better, kinda like RE is just better. Okay, that's it.

The sensor in your computer should read at least a bit higher than room temperature, unless you put it in wrong or your CPU is way slow. Mine's about 7 degrees higher with the sensor in the heat sink, though I suggest the 'indoor' sensor is reading high because it's mounted on a part of the case that gets a bit hot. (I doubt it's 32 degrees in here...)

Well, it's not much different than room temperature I'd say at most one or two degrees. It jumps up when I run big programs/lots of programs, like UT2k4 or MatLab and stuff like that. I think it stays pretty cool because I've got four fans and and pretty good heatsink (which is not good for noise control).
