Please, no discussion on videogame movies that ARE being made, like Doom, and keep the Halo rumors away from this thread.

But, what videogame out there, do you think would make an inredible movie?

In my opinion, if pulled off just right, Deus Ex could perhaps make the greatest movie in existence.

Deus Ex: The Conspiracy is easily one of the most breathtaking games I've ever played. The entire game has you guessing whether or not your actions are right or wrong, there are tons of plot twists, characters will betray and cheat you, you will betray and cheat them. The storyline itself is a masterpiece. I can't really explain it, but I've never met somebody who's played Deus Ex entirely, and did not enjoy it. Deus Ex in my opinion has probably the best storyline in any videogame that has ever been created.

The only problem I could see with making a movie about it, would be the length. The game itself is huge, and for a first time runner would probably take you 20 hours to complete. So, it would maybe have to be a Trilogy, or have a sequel, because I don't think they could fit Deus Ex into 2 hours.

From Wikipedia
Deus Ex's plot drew together several current conspiracy theories into a narrative with characters having a deeper development than those of most FPS games. It also presented a philosophical dilemma in its conclusion where the player is given a world-altering choice.

The game's level of detail astounded the gaming world. As an example, one of Deus Ex's central topics is nanotechnology, the main character JC Denton is augmented by symbiotic microscopic computers called nanites and the game contains an impressive amount of literature on nanotechnology and defines its science quite accurately. Many allusions to classic literature and influences (predominantly Neal Stephenson's The Diamond Age and Snow Crash) can be found throughout the game environment. These details encourage the player to replay the game to discover and learn more about the world of Deus Ex.

The game itself is just incredibly huge. Throughout the game you can find Newspapers, Online Articles and emails, and books that truly bring the game to life, as if you were really there and those items were completely real. The post apochlyptic world is also fascinating, siding with one of the best musical scores I've ever heard in an FPS. The game is incredibly deep.

Yes, there have been rumors of a Deus Ex movie, but trust me, those have been going on for almost over 5 years, so I don't think it'll happen anytime soon.

It would make one amazing movie / series, though.

On a side note, I highly believe that Christian Bale would make the perfect JC Denton.

There are several games I would like to see be made into a movie. I honestly think, if done correctly, a LoZ movie would kick ass. Undoubtedly though, Hollywood would fuck over any potentially good video game movie.

Tetris. Huge russian blocks from space threaten to destroy all life on the planet, and the fate of the world rests on Bruce Willis, whom plays scientist who invented a machine which brings the blocks together and makes them disappear by forming a horizontal line.

Metroid would make a kick-ass movie. A beautiful blonde battling a gigantic dragon via a power suit? I could grow to like that. Serious Sam would also rock. Imagine Army of Darkness; now imagine it BETTER! Bruce Campbell stars in: Serious Sam: The Movie

My friends and I were hoping he would've gotten the "Space Marine" role for Doom. Then it would have actually been worth seeing.

As for Metroid, I really wouldn't want a Metroid movie, I mean it would just be weird ... since, throughout the game you're pretty much alone trying to survive. It would just be one quiet movie.

But, I'm not here to argue ... just mainly wanted to comment on the Bruce Campbell thing.

The Metal Gear series, although let's face it, the games are practically interactive movies as they are

The Metal Gear world is pretty big and complex though... Ideally I'd like to see a movie that doesn't cover specifically the stuff we've seen in the games but rather adds another story. A movie specifically based on say "Metal Gear Solid" or "Metal Gear Solid: Snake Eater" wouldn't be as much fun to me as a movie that adds to the whole Metal Gear world.

Metroid would make a very good movie. I do think Halo would as well, I very much do. Final Fantasy 6 could be a better candidate than some for another Advent Children sort of flick...but the game that would make the absolute best real movie (even though it was a 4 episode anime) would be the Goemon series. Think of it! If it was in that style of those Kung-Fu parodie movies, how funny it would be. Ebisumaru's actor must be absolutly adorable too

I thought John Woo was in fact making a Metroid movie? And on top of that he was supposed to be making a CG TMNT movie. Either way, he's sure taking his sweet time as I read about both a long time ago.

If PC games are counting, I'd say Starcraft.

It'd be almost like Starship Troopers! Except that there's 3 races in Starcraft and some of them teams up.

Hey, that would be a perfect comedy movie. Honestly, it would be.

Thought I do see mistakes when people take videogames and turns them into a movie. Or anime, or whatever... such as following the game too much.

Starcraft would be very nice as a movie indeed. And Command and conquer would make a nice trilogy.

The only two videogame movies I liked were Super Mario Bros. and Mortal Kombat. The rest; garbage. They just don't know how to make videogames into movies. Then again, they just don't know how to make movies; period. The 80s and 90s, great movies most of the time. Once we hit the new millenium, movies started going down hill. Now that I think of it, so did videogames. I'm so dissapointed with both industries.

I'll give you Mortal Kombat since that DID do extremely well at the box office and was a decent movie that I'd watch again if it was on TV... but SMB? Oh god. It wasn't *that* bad but compared to the actual game it was... augh... like I said in a previous thread, THAT'S why Nintendo doesn't let others have total creative control over their licenses now.
