| Ugh, well, it's that time of the day again -- inbox checking time. That fun part of the day where I get all those exciting offers to enlarge an organ that I DON'T HAVE! I've noticed that I get quite a lot of spam lately, so I've been creating custom filters to get rid of it and viruses and stuff too.  Anyways, I was just wondering, how much spam do you guys get daily, and what, if anything, are you doing to minimize the impact spam has on your life/inbox? I get between 30 - 50 a day, and I'm starting to create custom filters to eliminate mine. You? |

| I keep getting all this stupid porn and hentai crap in my inbox. And software offers. I have to delete all 50 new ones I get everyday or it overfloods my inbox since I only have 10MB space at fastmail. I'm gonna try and contact the people that are sending me to shit to tell them to stop or see if my mail provider can block them somehow. | |||

| 0 spam daily, on all three e-mail addresses I use. I just have been careful with my e-mail. And just lucky too... (you see the e-mail I have in my profile is the one I use in forms and such, I still don't get any spam there even if I have registered for alot of sites now...) Thought I know that hotmail users get's alot of spam. My dad get's alot of spam for some reason the classical get bigger manhoods, get viagra... and enlarging your breasts.  I have no idea how he get the spam from... but from what I have seen with other users hotmail = spamfest.  Spam got illegal in EU recently, the spam must be "wanted" for being legal... but I doubt that the spammers in Asia and US cares about that.  (edited by Kitten Yiffer on 04-07-04 08:40 PM) |

| See, I've only gotten spam on my account very recently. But I also heard that spammers have been targeting domains recently; and my mail is on my own domain, so.. *shrugs* I'm always amused by the things the spammers use to try to get past the filtering. Bizarre stuff. Mispellings, almost talking in L33t half the time, REALLY odd words in it. And what is with half the spam ending with a collection of very strange random words? | I think the BEST way to get rid of it is if we all just filter it out and ignore it. Spammers send out MILLIONS of e-mails, and they get 1% response rate. That's a LOT of people giving the spammers money for their penis enlargement pills and such. Spammers spam because it is profitable. For little to no advertising costs they get a lot of stupid customers. If they didn't have customers, they'd go away. |

| Well there is more spam than regular e-mail sent out I heard. I still have to see anyone who have been fooled by spam, but there must be any. E-mail change is only good if the spam is unberable. And filter may take some regular e-mails by accident. I would like to see stricter laws, I wonder what happen if somebody find out some of the biggest spammers and sue them. I heard of somebody that got rich of spamming, antispammers found his real post address... and did take revange by snail mail. |

| Yeah, a lot of people take revenge via snail mail. They find out the guy's real address and send so much snail mail his way that he can't find his legitimate mail amongst it all. I just want somebody to beat a few spammers within an inch of their lives with a pointy stick. That might make a few others think twice! Bleh, and I've also blocked out attachments from my mail. At least, the .scr, .pif, .exe, .bat ones. I left .zip, but most my virus generated spam gets sent to the trash that way. |

Custom spam filter? I tried that, going by domains, then keywords. But they kept getting around it (although not nearly as bad as it was before... 120 down to 12). Then I got SpamBayes (Bayesian filter for Outlook) and they're lucky if one spam email gets through.  A couple of false positives so far, but nothing I can't catch. |

| Well, unfortunately I don't have the advantage of being able to use a Bayesian filter, as I use webmail (OpenWebmail to be precise). So, custom filtering is the way to go for me. Working good so far, but does need some fine tuning a bit sometimes. |

| I'm using Thunderbird and it does a fairly good job of sorting out my spam mail. Then again, Sympatico seems to stop a lot of it at the source, so I'm not flooded by it. |
