Acmlm: Open the admin control panel, Board.

Board: I'm sorry. I cannot do that, Acmlm.

Acmlm: Open the admin control panel!

Board: This conversation can hold no further purpose. Goodbye, Acmlm.

*Acmlm shuts down board server*

Board: I'm afraid. I'm afraid, Acmlm. Acmlm, my mind is going. I can feel it. I can feel it. My mind is going. There is no question about it. I can feel it. I can feel it. I can feel it. I'm a... fraid. Good afternoon, gentlemen. I am an Acmlm's Board version 1.A3. My php configurers were watching the Super Mario Bros. Super Show, and I recall the theme song. If you'd like to hear it I can sing it for you.

Board: Do the Mario. Swing your hips... from side to side. C'mon, let's go, everyone, do.. the... Mario....

Would it be ok to bump an old thread of mine to post new screenshots of my hack?
Just want to make sure that it would be ok.

Got a link? Post it and we'll let you know. If it's greater than a month old (and even a month is stretching it) the answer will automatically be "no", so don't even suggest it if it is.

It's his thread and he'd be updating it with actual content. Why is this a problem, even if the thread is especially old?

Well, it is not that old yet, but i just want to keep from doing something uneeded.

I mean why start a new thread about the same thing as an old thread of mine?

Because it would be just as easy to create an entirely new thread and link to the old one? And if it's all entirely new content, why would you want anyone new to the board to bother reading through all the outdated stuff first?

I've pulled up your old thread in question, mikepjr. I don't see any problem with a bump, it's only about 3 weeks or so old. And I'm glad you asked before you just went ahead and did it.

And, I think what happened is a prime example of the rules, and how to use them. I know that some people will miss this, but if someone reads that, they'll know wht to do.

Great, now Acmlm has to get to Saturn's expansion port all by himself.

Having AI that could detect spam would pretty much eliminate the need for mods and admins, but it might be a bit hard on the server. Though more realistically, the current system is fine. If someone bumps a topic, they get yelled at unless it's not a very old topic and/or their reply is useful.

Well, then why not just have it to where someone dose just like i just did?

Ya know, ask befor bumping, esp if it is a thread they made, and are updateing.

Like have a sticky thread for people to come in and ask befor doing anything they may get into trouble for, like if they are unsure.

I think ill just start a new one, and try to keep it updated.
Besides, my last thread had a header that made a few people remind me that they had already chose the title i was going to use in my hack.

I think you guys are missing the point. Old topics are often outdated and sometimes have pointless content built up but sometimes they have relevent information that shouldn't be shoved into some link when you make a new topic. It's the pointless part of pointless bumps that we have a problem with.

mikepjr shouldn't have to ask before he bumps an old topic of his with relevent information.

And that sticky thread idea would be a total waste of everyone's time. Just bump the damn thread if you feel compelled to add something useful and use your best judgement. Because it's the n00bs who are abusing their bump abilities, not people like mikepjr who just want to add some screenshots.

I agree, a sticky topic would be a total waste of time.

The bottom line on bumping:

If you bump an old thread, you had better make very sure that the new content is directly proportional to the length of the bump. The older the thread, the better the content better be. We will close threads if we have to, with warnings or strikes if the offense is serious enough. This is, of course, subjective based on the moderator and the content, so if you are in doubt, PM one of us first.

Aside:

The entire point we are trying to make, Glyph Pheonix, is that you should avoid making bad decisions without some consideration first. Bumping an old and outdated thread with useless information is a prime example of this. Whether the user comes to us first or makes their own decision is not the issue here. I could care less either way, I'm sure the other guys feel the same way (or at least similar). The real issue is that we shouldn't have to hold your hands when you're posting. If you know what criteria we use to determine if a user is breaking the rules or not, you should be less inclined to break the rules, and thus, make our jobs easier.

That is fine, just not what your original posts seemed to imply. But I'm just really sick of this "leave it to the mods" mentality.

"Stop acting like a mod". Argh. If somebody has a good point, they should never ever be told this. And yet they are, even by semi-sane people like Blackhole. Mods can lock/move topics and can access search.php. There's your big difference.

And yet some people seem to believe that only mods should bring topics back on topic, and only mods should make definitive decisions. The only real decision mods can make that regular members can't is exactly where topics go when they've outlived their usefulness (if the topic ever actually had any).

Well said. I think that regular users DO need to be able to correct their peers, otherwise what will happen is well, we get a monarchic system that is just as useless as pointless bumps. We may not be mods, but for god's sake, we need to be able to point our peers in the right direction. Come on.

And no, mods are not the only people to bring topics back on, but.. I'll leave my opinion on this unsaid.

Anyways, People do need to stop bumping threads pointlessly. Bottom line.
