I do that sword/feather thing too! The feather is the coolest weapon ever.

In Super Metroid, I toss bombs all over the place whenever I happen to be in ball form.

In Fire Emblem, I refuse to slow down, and plow through all the levels as fast as my units can move. This applies to alledged defence levels as well. As a consequence, a certain few levels are more difficult for me than they should be, and at the end when the game gives your total number of turns to beat each level, half of the numbers are 7s.

In any game, if I'm trying to get through an area without fighting because the fighting isn't needed and I'm sick of it, I'll always take potshots at enemies that pass by, even though I know I'm not planning on killing them.

When I go on all out gaming sprees (which I haven't forever), I'd play in my boxers/briefs/boxer-briefs, with plenty of Crushed Melon Jones Soda and Chips with Salsa con Queso dip handy. Plus I sit my Budha statue next to me for good luck, and if you can spit on your shoes without hitting laces it's good luck too.

I'm horrible like that myself (for both of those).
In most RPG's that I enjoy and really get into, I'll have that "I have to collect everything" attitude. I don't know what it is, and as stupid as it sounds, but when I'm at the end of an RPG and can look back into my inventory to find a "Dagger", I feel great. And I'm never in the middle of this, I either keep everything, or sell everything that I don't need. I've done this in a few RPG's like FFIV, where money was kind of hard to get. When that would happen, I'd for some reason just sell everything except for whatever I had equiped basically.

I'm also bad with items. I look at them as a "Use as your last resort" kind of thing. So, if you saw some of my RPG games, you'd see I'd have tons of Ethers, and Potions, because I rarely used them, ever. Elixers and things like that I almost NEVER used, until the final boss or something. I just waste items sometimes.

I was the complete opposite. When I got Flammie, I'd always go back to the Gold Isle and rest there, even if it was the most expensive town in the game.

I just don't know what it is, but in RPG's, towards the end of the game if you have the ability to travel anywhere throughout the game, I'll usually "Pick a place that I'd like to call home", or something weird like that, and almost always go there over any other town or whatever.

On any of the Sonic games for the Genesis, I always speed past the sign at the end of the level. Then, right before the end level points show up, I jump. Doing so off screen allows me to gain control of Sonic, even when I am not supposed to be having control. Don't know why I liked to do that, but I just do...

In a FPS, I play many ways. The first time I play, I play through it just by my skills. Other times I play like the following:

Stealth: Being steathy throughout the game.
Serious: Play the game as though I am the main character, personality and all.
Guerilla: Attack, hide, attack, hide.
Crazy: Do a whole lot of crazy stuff, such as killing a hard guy with the weakest weapon in the game.

There are, again, more that I do... the hard thing is actually catching myself doing these things...

Also, I hope I'm not the only one that's done this ...

In some FPS's that are really great with the setting and environment, I sometimes find myself just ... walking around.

Halo for example. I thought this game was absolutely beautiful. In the 2nd level I sometimes found myself walking around the waterfall at the beginning, just walking in the water and looking around.

I also did this in Deus Ex, sometimes I'd stare into the fake 2D backdrop image of New York.

In the Metroid Prime games, I liked to look around a lot, obviously since those games are very detailed.

Just wait until the next generation of gaming.

This is a reason why I like playing videogames alone, I like to take my time, or I like to hurry through things. When I'm with friends, and even though they could just be sitting there watching, I feel like I'm "forced" to go ahead by their presence, or something.

Yeah, honestly I'm not that much of a picky gamer, truly, even though it doesn't sound like it.

Oh, I just remembered something else about DW5. It generally annoys me when any of my allies die (except if I don't particularly like the character...Cao Pi is an arrogant jackass, so he can bite the dust for all I care ). I just get somewhat obsessive about saving the coolest ones. My favorite maps tend to be the ones where it's possible to keep everyone on your side alive by doing a reasonable job at strategizing and killing enemies. I also like to try to turn the entire map blue except for the little corner where the enemy commander is hiding.

Heh. In Suikoden 1 and 2, if any of my character died in the War Battles I'd just restart the game.
(when they died in those they DIED, and would no longer be in the game. )

Mainly because I wanted to get all the 108 characters, but still, even past that fact I just hated losing a character in a game like that.

Yeah, I never let any character in any strategy RPG where death means death die. If someone died, it was reset time, no matter how worthless that character was.

Other things.. Well, in Sonic the Hedgehog 2, whenever I finish a level, I always run off the screen start spinning, and zoom back onto the screen before the next level starts. Always.
And in Ninja Gaiden games, I always climb to the top of a wall after beating a boss. No idea why, but it's not like there's much else to do while waiting for the timer to stop counting down.

Haha, I'm not the only one either! Except my element is always, always Lightning for some reason. It's not even stronger most of the time, especially in games like FFTactics. And in Morrowind, I always have a gigantic collection of magical items on me at all times, even if I only use one sword.

My only Nu Mou died permanently once in FFTactics Advance, so I reset my game and fought like ten battles to get to the point where I was before because I hadn't saved. I didn't want to lose my only one, of course...

And then there's my personal custom: I always jump to places, never really run. I'm convinced that jumping allows me to go faster than running does in many games, so I tend to use that instead of run. In River City Ransom EX, for example, I'll take to the skies just for the hell of it. I have this weird thing for jumping.

In emulation, I'm a save-state abuser. In real games, I'm a save abuser.
I also tend to cheat and use walkthroughs a LOT! Everyone in my household calls me a cheater, and my little brother thought I was cheating when I downloaded levels for Star Wars: Battlefront. I feel like a disgrace

In most strategy games I tend to go overboard when it comes to building up a army. I concentrate on building alot of units while collecting resources and have fun while looking at the computer getting blasted to bits. I think I got the game to lag on RA2 becuse of the amount of tanks I had on screen (and RA2 runs well on low-end Pentium II computers even... this was on a 1.8 Ghz computer. Then, I blame the engine itself.)

Thought of course, I do use another strategy against humans. Instead I send out small forces now and then, who is usually a big enough threat for a building or two.

About RPGs, I tend to try playing with few battles as possible. I don't necessarily avoid battles but I honestly never seen the need to level up. (and really, is your defination of fun battling the same enemy over and over again on a RPG just for going up a few levels?)

The game is like most of the SaGa series hard, but the final boss is exponentially harder than any other boss - and already in Final Fantasy the most bosses are easy but the final boss usually required to go up few levels before defeating them.

That was one of the reasons i disliked Final Fantasy 8's leveling system.
You virtually got PUNISHED for LEVELING up
Completing the game at a lower level is easier than being in the 90s (like me ) and just torture oneself to the game, due to the shitloads of HP the enemies have.

Whenever a violence-related game gives me the option to increase the strength of my weapon, I usually decline. Examples include going through all three Gameboy Zelda games with Sword L-1 and clinging to intial equipment unless otherwise forced not to in RPGs. Not all, but most. I just think that certain videogames tend to lack significant challange, so I create some. Currently, I'm caught up in The Minish Cap and am not being challanged enough, but I'm being forced to increase the power of my sword, so I've decided to stop collecting heart containers and, furthermore, knock my heart meter down to three constantly.

The original Mother threw stronger and stronger monsters at you without allowing you to level up between the waves too.

But I do tend to avoid levelling unless it's absolutely nessecary. What's fun about spending 2 hours fighting the same monsters over and over, and then waltzing through the rest of the game by holding a button?

But seriously, I am a hardcore leveler. I enjoy it, unlike most.

In Final Fantasy's I'd abuse the "exp division factor" a lot; I'd kill off basically all my characters except for one, and then level up one character quickly. Then I'd switch to another character and repeat.

I did this in FFIV with Cecil and got him to about level 80, or you could say, to a point where he was basically invincible.

And I've done this in FFVI for maxing out some of my characters. Right now I have a level 99 Edgar, Celes, and Shaddow (I have 50 hours on that game, when you can usually beat it around 20. )

I don't know, just depends on the gamer I guess. I like leveling up.

I have alot of things like this but I can't remember too many, let's see...

In Sonic 2 and probably 1, I allways run/jump back on the screen when I finish the level.

In Pokemon games, even when I try not to, I allways end up blasting through with just one strong Pokemon. I also am not much of a level uper unless there's atleast a decent amount of interactivity like Tales of Symphonia.

I almost allways hold charge in MegaMan games, though that's a given.

In the Pokemon games, in blue I used the fire starter, in Gold/Silver I used the Water starter, and in Ruby/Sapphire I used the Grass starter. This leaves me helpless to pick one when Diamond and Pearl come out though.

I usually like to play sans partner in one player mode of Kirby Super Star. I also recently have tried sticking with one good ability throughout parts of the game. I also love to use attacks where you bounce off an enemy, down type ones.

In games where you can replay earlier areas to get higher scores and such, I usually like to play through the main game with no care on score or how many times I lose, then I go back and get A ranks or best times.

When you get the option to attack or kill allies in games, mistake or otherwise, I usually save before hand, then kill them and reload.

I can't think of anymore but this is too big anyway...

Actually, the SaGa games are a good example. If you don't level up in Final Fantasy Legend 2, for example, you're heading NOWHERE. As soon as the enemies start using skills and magic, they'll hurt you a lot.

I don't turn down upgrades or skip them unless I've beaten the game before... and even then it depends. I wouldn't want to turn something down then get stuck fighting a hopeless boss battle.

Thought of another one:

T-minus 75 fireballs- Battletoads, Level 7, Section 2 of the plane-flying part. I'll count (sometimes out loud) the individual fireballs as they appear on screen. This is so I know where the 1-up is (46 fireballs), as well as the end of the section.
