Let's just say I recently (and finally) decided to try out MAME.
Simply put, it kicks ass.

I've played a few great games like the arcade version of Gradius III (wow, talk about hard. I can't even beat the first level). Metal Slug games, the arcade bloody and gory Battletoads, Marvel vs Capcom, and a few other good games.

But, I'd like suggestions. Since I'm obviously a little behind with MAME, I just have to ask what games should I check out?

No, I don't need help finding games. I've got that covered.

The Simpsons!
Can MAME emulate games that required a wheel to play? I've never tried it before. If so, get Off Road. It's a game where you see three wheels at an arcade, red, yellow, and blue, and you get a birds eye view and race and stuff. It's really fun, and I hate racing games. It's usually what I play at the arcade.

I wouldnt' be surprised, I saw San Francisco Rush, Rush 2049, and the Alcatraz on the "game" list, so it probably could work. Might be hectic to play on the keyboard though.

But yeah, I remember the Simpons. Are you referring to the beat em' up? If so, yes that game definitely rocked! I played it probably just as much as the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles games back then.

*goes to look for it*

Yeah, the beat-em-up, is there another Simpsons arcade game? I've played both of those games a lot, but Simpsons always appealed to me more. I even beat the whole thing one day, Mr. Burns was just a bitch at the end. Luckily the power of Marge saved the day. The arcade must love me, quarter-eating bastards.

You should have ALLLLL the classic early 80's arcade games such as Centipede, Asteroids, Missile Command, etc. The roms are small and you could probably have two hundred classics or so in MAME at the cost of 50MB of dish space.

Ooh... Namco Classics Collections 1 and 2. They don't run PERFECTLY in MAME but they're perfectly playable and quite fun.

I know it's a little late to ask, but what's the best emulator to use?

Right now I have MAME32 Plus!, which is pretty nice I'd say.

Stick with that one?

I am looking for space shooters. Any and all... any suggestions? I only know of the 19** series. I mean, I've played others, but I simply can't remember their names.

The 19** series doesn't even take place in space.

Hm... Gradius? Life Force/Salamander? Aero Fighters? Raiden? Strikers? There's a *ton* of shooters out there.

That goes along with NeoGeo BIOS that Phil suggested.

I'm making a php script designed to download all MAME ROM images supported so far (a total of 5661)... from (ahem )... which means 15 KB/s. So let's say they're 5 GB in total (excluding CHD's and other stuff, just the ROM images). That means that it'd take about 4 days to download them. And there are probably more than 5 GB. But it'll definately be faster/easier than downloading them manually.

DoDonPachi is one of the greatest top-down vertical based games i've found yet. Street Fighter Alpha 3 is pretty fun too if you like classic arcade fighting goodness. XD
