Ok, so last night, I got myself the Kirby's Dreamland rom and decided to take a crack at finding the level data so I could make a hack... since I don't think anyone has attempted this game (Kirby's Adventure and Kirby Superstar are the only ones, I think...).

So began my corrupting.

I corrupted very in depth until I found some level changes.

I thought I found level data, but I later discovered (after ten minutes of experimenting) that I didn't find level data, but I found what I believe to be some tile data.

0xEDA4 - The beginning of the tile data. If I change one of the values there, it changes the first tile plus anything like that. That has to be tile data.

However, after corrupting the rom a lot, I could not find the level data. Not. At. All.

I have a question for those that can answer it: Is the level data in this game compressed? If so, has anyone cracked it yet?

It uses the same compression as KA and KSS...HAL really loved that I think

Data has been found for it by Jigglysaint, dan, windwaker, Parasyte, and yours truly. I'm pretty sure I spent the most time on it though (and found the least data per minute). Parasyte did most of the stuff on finding the game's compressions.

However, there has never been a level hack of any kind for it yet. The same goes with KSS. Even less data has been found for it though.

What's funny about their ridiculous overcompression is that they didn't really compress the Lolo series that well at all. I guess they were just trying to make up for their crappy job of compression there by going insane with the other games that followed.

I'm not exactly sure if the compression is the same as KA and KSS, but I'll just hope that Yoro actually took the time to find this out for sure. You can use Parasyte's decompressor if this turns out to be the case.

You DID actually verify KDL's compressions, right, Yoro?
