Muahahaha! Soon I will be starting my very own RPG in the Story Forum, but this is the opening scene. You can expect the RPG to start right after this battle. Anyone is welcome to fight here, though I would really prefer that it be someone...eh...descriptive? in their posts. You know, someone who takes battling/story-telling seriously. The character you use in this battle may become important to the storyline, and gain a good advantage in the RPG, if you so choose.

Normal rules apply for this battle, and only one person need participate. Yeah...
Now, commence!
---

Another night setting. Full moon, few clouds, starry sky - the ideal night scene.

Across this sky glided an airship, a rather primitive cross between an old galleon and a zeppelin, and its ruthless passengers would see combat before the moon set. This ship was the Basilisk, owned and flown by one of the most feared pirate in all the land: Captain Atlas Jackson.

Jackson was the spitting image of a murderous air-pirate. He donned heavy, gray boots, to match his weather-beaten charcoal pants, which was separated from his torn dark gray overcoat and chain mail by his thick brown utility belt, which held numerous weapons as did the other belt slung over his shoulder. He was always armed, no matter where he went. He also had heavy shoulder pads, an eye patch, and even a robotic left hand, though it was impossible to tell under his large, silver gloves. Wherever his skin showed, it was covered with the scars of countless battles. Now, few dared to contend with him, but those who did seldom even lived to regret their actions.

The captain paced around his private quarters, which were in the geometric dome that was the head of the airship. In his pacing he repeatedly ran through his mind the exact words that he had read in a scroll he had plundered from a town nearly a week ago. According to it, the coordinance for a great treasure, apparently the largest ever gathered by mortal or immortal alike, lay in an old mine but another 20 miles ahead of him! It seemed too easy, but he had years of evidence along with the scroll to provide support for the legend. The clues leading to it had also been hidden secretly enough, so there had to be
something there.

He thoughtfully stroked his enormous hybrid serpent, which was wrapped around a fake branch by a window, as he considered sending in some of his lesser troops to inspect the mine, incase the place was booby-trapped.
---

The Basilisk airship soon arrived next to a large mesa in the middle of some barren dirt fields, and silently glided to a stop. On cue, many ropes were flung from the deck, and 20 men slid down them, led by Jackson. They formed a circle around the entrance to the mine - a small, mundane wooden doorway that lead into the dark cave. It was certainly an unlikely place to host an incredible treasure horde...

Jackson's first mate, Roland, doubtfully eyed his captain.

Roland: You sure this is the place?

Jackson returned the gaze, a thousand times more menacing.

Jackson: It had better be, or a whole town and our marvelous efforts were spent for nothing.
Roland: Eh, right. C'mon, chaps, let's get in there! Scot, lead your team into the mine!

Five of the pirates obediently ran into the cave. For several minutes, the crew waited outside, but was again greeted by the troop. The cave was reportedly empty, save for an odd statue deep inside.

Jackson: I'm sure we've only just touched the tip of the iceberg. Surely there is more inside!

The intervals at which the sound was being heard grown shorter... and shorter... and shorter... and not only that but it grow louder as well!

Then, when the sound was constant and loud enough to make someone deaf, there was a bright light... and some kind of large vortex appeared.

Some kind of object fell from it... and then, the vortex disappeared as suddenly as it had appeared.

The object that had fell was a large pile of metal... and judging from color, it was...a huge pile of gold!

However, Jackson and his crew barely had the time to inspect it that the pile of gold rose! The pile was seemingly not a treasure... but a creature!... and a strange one at that!

A single head that is a cross between a parrot and a dragon, two large triangular legs to the sides, and two unnatural-looking blue glowing eyes... nothing like the humans had ever seen before probably.

(creature): "Transdimensional warp successful. Begin to scan surroundings..."

The creature turned to Jackson...

(creature): "Life-form detected. Creature identified as a human being. Details unknow. Threat level unknow. Aggressivity level yet to be determined. Activating personality protocols..."

The being suddenly changed the way it stood. It suddenly looked a lot more like a creature and less like a pile of metal standing upright. A faint light of consciousness had also appeared in the creature's eyes...

(creature): "Well... I'm now officially awake. Let's see... I'm obviously in the middle of nowhere and my attempt at isolating myself was unsuccessful! SIGH! Why do Fate always pick on me? Why can't I remain alone? Am I destined to bring death and destruction forever? Hmm... anyway..."

The creature stared at Jackson...

(creature): "My name is Phantron and I mean you no harm... or something like that. I do not know why you're here... but I have advice for you. Run away... run away for the power that flows trought those metalllic veins of mine is cursed!... and I was created in such a way that I share my power with those that remain with me for too long so... if you do not want to share my fate, I strongly suggest that you leave!"

Phantron's eyes and golden armor contined to glow in the darkness of the room...

Jackson stared confusedly at the odd creature that had appeared behind him.

Jackson: ...What in blazes?

The rest of the crew, which was stationed around the entrance and behind Phantron, murmured amongst themselves in confusion and irritation. Several of them questioned out loud, "Is it the treasure?" or "Does it guard the chamber?", but their momentary confusion soon turned to aggressiveness. Jackson took a step toward Phantron.

Jackson: Yes, fate does indeed hold you out of its favor. Now speak up, immediately, or feel my blade! What are you doing here?

His hand moved slowly to his side, under his cloak...

Phantron felt the aggressiveness grow in Jackson's voice...

Phantron: "I do not fear your primitive weaponry, human... but I do fear for your safety. I came here... to seal myself. I came into this world, hoping it would be devoid of life... but humans inhabit this world... which is what I had feared. My power... is too terrible for anyone to wield and transmits itself to all those I meet without me having any control over the transmission... which means that if you value your life, you will leave this place and seal it!... and that you will make sure never, ever gets close to it ever again!"

Phantron made a step backward...

Phantron: "It is for your sake, human. I already caused enough destruction already... do not let your world become the next victim of my power..."

It seemed as if Phantron had absolutely not the intention of telling Jackson what was that terrible power she was speaking of... but judging from the way she was speaking of it, Phantron was terrified of herself... and yes, Phantron is female!... well, she assumes she's one since it's hard or even impossible to tell if a machine is male or female.

Phantron: "I understand that words have no effect on you, isn't it? Then... so be it."

Phantron's eyes and the spikes on top of her legs turned blood red. Phantron also caught on fire... but there was something wrong with the flames... they were purple and black and didn't emitted any light... in fact, it was the opposite. The room seemed even more dark becease of the flames.

Phantron: "As you refuse to escape... I shall save this world from being corrupted by destroying all potential hosts! Now... come join me... come with mw into the eternal darkness!"

Phantron roared. Her voice had changed from the one of a young woman to one of a powerful dark dragon.

Then, Phantron opened her mouth and about a three dozens of red thunderbolts came out of her mouth, all aimed at the pirates in front of her and all within just a mere second...

These were plasma bolts, small rays of metal that had been heated so much that they had turned into something even more hot than gaz... and as such, they would instantly turn to ashes any organic componements and melt any metal they came into contact with.

Many of the pirates cowered before the plasma attack; some drew shields, others used powerful space boots to leap over it. When the attack finished, there were five piles of ash where there once stood pirates.

Still, the pirates recovered from their fear as quickly as it had taken them. A ring was already formed around Phantron, and some of those near the back activated force fields around themselves for cover as they readied other attacks. Two pirates charged forward to Phantron, from separate sides. One was armed with large scimitars (curved swords) and had heavy armor, and the other had one odd lance that glowed with electricity and was propelled by rocket boots.

High up in the airship, the noise and lights did not go unnoticed.

Phantron divided into 3 identical copies as the pirates were about to strike her. One behind her, one in front of her... or is it?

The two pirates soon found out, upon striking Phantron, that the center one was maybe not the real one as their weapon passed trought. Unless the pirates had excellent reflexes and had not put too much strenght and speed into their attack, it was highly probably they would kill each others.

As for Phantron... well, all three copies jumped to different corners of the room and then fired another volley of plasma bolts.

While only one copy was real... it seemed that all of the plasma bolts fired were real!

Most of the shots were aimed at the pirates that were the closest to the room's exit(s).

As the two charging pirates passed through Phantron's image, they both tried to stop. The one wielding the scimitars halted, but the other, powered by the boots, had a harder time stopping, and skewered his comrade with his electric blade.

Two of the three pirates near the entrance had force fields up, so the plasma shots bounced off and randomly hit the walls of the tunnel. However, the third unfortunate one was vaporized in his spot!

Two pirates that were close to the exit pulled out glowing blue devices and dropped them onto the ground. With a flash, hi-tech cannons appeared in the spot that the spheres had hit the ground! The pirates positioned the cannons to separate copies of Phantron, and fired, unleashed bolts of very powerful crackling gamma pulses! One of the shots was off, and burned a hole into the wall that it hit, but the other seemed to be accurately heading for one of the copies...let's call it Phantron 1.

Six more men were already firing with rifles at the Phantrons, about two to each copy.

The electric blade pirate doubled back, and again charged at Phantron 2, quickly propelled by his rocket boots!

Roland, the current leader, drew a very large gun-like weapon and aimed it at Phantron 3, but didn

OFF: I guess that those pirates should not prove to be much of a challenge for Phantron... but Roland and Jackson (should Phantron run into him) should... I mean, will be a challenge for her!

If I'm wrong and that the fight against the crew is not a warm-up but the actual fight, then my bad...

____________________________________________________________________

Most of the shots were passing trought the Phantrons... but it seemed like the rifle shots of the pirates aiming at Phantron 3 were bouncing off something metallic...

Noticing that she had been spotted, Phantron made the copies disappear... and then respawned them instantly at different spots, rebecoming unseen again!

Two of the Phantrons concentrated Plasma bolt fire on the cannons while the third Phantron fired a single homing missile at Roland!... which was a surprising move for a robot!

Since this was an old mine, the foundations were probably weak and the big explosion caused by a missile would probably cause the room to collapse!

However, Phantron was sure that unless the missile was blown before it reached it's target, it would cause the ceiling to collapse but only on the the pirates... and on the exit. Thus, Phantron would kill two birds with one stone: she would kill all potential hosts for her power and seal herself in the mine.

OOC: Yeah, it's basically like the pirates are typical henchmen - expendable, and not very skilled, but Jackson and Roland are the heroes. They'll be harder.
---

The missile never got a chance to explode. Roland had seen it coming, and was always prepared for large attacks like these. He propped his weapon on his shoulder, and with his free hand pulled out a small hand-held device, which he pointed at the on-coming missile. With a click of the button, an odd bolt of lightning shot out of the end, made contact with the missile, and stopped it right where it was in the air. The missile fell to the ground, rendered harmless by the momentary effect of slo-time. Roland pocketed the item, and shot a white ball of energy at Phantron 3, the one who shot the missile.

The cannon that had shot the gamma pulse exploded when it was struck with the plasma, since it was already overheated, and the pirate behind it was thrown backward, stunned. The other cannon was melted considerably, and the pirate that controlled it fired a green laser (stronger than red, but lesser than blue) at Phantron 2 with his laser pistol.

Again, the six rifle-wielding pirates shot at the Phantron copies, 2 to each. The group firing at Phantron 1 was guarded by force fields.

The electric lance pirate teamed up with a pirate that held an X-ray gun, which could pierce through defenses, and both attacked Phantron 2.

Finally, one of the two pirates in the back, guarding the exit, threw a strange trapper-grenade at Phantron 1, with the intention of having it actually land NEXT to her. If it did, then it would generate a large force field, trapping the Phantron inside with no escape. Things could go in the field, but not out. He, as well as the other two, had force fields.

12 pirates + Roland left, 1 stunned

---

At a distance down the tunnel, Jackson heard the commotion. Perhaps the machine was actually as powerful as it claimed?

OFF: Phantron's ability is now revealed!

It is possible that you may or may not like this post at all...

____________________________________________________________________

All Phantrons smiled... and then, time stopped.

Phantron's soul began to resonate... the pirates' resonated back at hers...

...and then, a strange link was created between the machine and the pirates.

Thousands of years of knowledge was suddenly forced into the humans' brains and they learnt ancient secrets... ranging from random useless recipes for items to the DNA code for creating planet-destroying living weapons... and among the data transferred to them was the data on many forbidden fighting arts.

However, one of those arts was more terrible than the others... much more... and it's name was rather short and rather... weird...

"Magic"

The data for "Magic" would probably make no sense to the pirates. It involved complicated formulas about turning Anti-Matter (emptiness) into matter and energy... in short, how to make things appear out of nowhere and how to control them with your mind...

...and now, ALL of those powers belonged to those pirates... at a price.

As Phantron transmitted the data to the pirates, the pirates transmitted their knowledge to her. She instantly knew everything they knew... their souls became an open book to the machine...

As time unfroze, Phantron laughed...

ALL of the weapon fire struck her and... and had no effect!... apart from the trapping grenade. The trapping grenade trapped... a fake Phantron, which faded soon enough.

The real Phantron stood in front of the pirates, smiling... which was rather weird, for a machine.

Phantron: "So... THIS is how and why you came into this mine... I hoped to kill you before Soul Resonance could be achieved... but I clearly went too easy on you. You people... are terrible beings. You're totally unworthy of my power... like all the others! As such... I have no choice but to finish you off... quickly and efficiently."

Phantron walked toward the pirates, now immune to all of their weapons. Only physical strikes would harm her, now... and she doubted they would survive her thruster-powered kicks... altought they would last a while now that they were infused with enough close combat techniques to beat even the most skilled martial master in seconds.

OOC: ...Creepy .
---

Thousands of years of knowledge...ancient secrets...complex DNA codes...this was all too much for the pirates, and all, save for three, fell over, unconscious from the mental overload. The other three were Roland and two other pirates, the one who threw the trapper grenade and a burly pirate with an entire mechanical right arm. The two were armed with special devices in their brains that disallowed unauthorized mental signals, while Roland just seemed able to cope with the knowledge without fainting. They stared in disbelief, not knowing what happened to their team. One activated a distress signal, which alerted every pirate Jackson commanded, including himself, of the danger they faced.

The Basilisk, high in the air, immediately lowered its altitude, getting closer to the mine so it could provide reinforcements and make a quick getaway.

Jackson had just reached the end chamber when he received the distress signal. He cursed his luck, but stayed a moment longer. He wasn't about to leave empty-handed after all of the trouble he went through to get to the chamber. At the end of the chamber was a bizarre statue of some kind of angel. Jackson moved closer to inspect it, and found a peculiar shape carved out of the base, just above some foreign writing. The shape was familiar to him, though. From out of his cloak he pulled his void pack, which could store an infinite amount of objects inside of it, and produced a glimmering gem from the pack. After inspecting the gem to make sure that it matched the socket in the statue, he hurriedly began reading the runes.

Roland held his hand to his head from all that he had learned, taking a moment to cope with it all. The remaining two pirates stupidly shot at Phantron with lasers, which of course didn't have any effect. After a few seconds, Roland spoke up.

Roland: No, use physical attack! Force!

The other two pirates were confused, but obeyed Roland, who knew all that Phantron did, which included her weakness. The mechanical armed one drew an enormous sword, one that no human could possibly wield, and swung it at Phantron, while the other fired at her with a special sound gun. The gun would fire a beam of concentrated sound, sort of like light, that could pulverize a ten-foot thick diamond wall to rubble in seconds.

Roland stood back, reviewing the concept of a fighting style he had just learned, and liked it immediately.

Already, that one technique opened many doors for Roland in the coming RPG...

Phantron was surprised by her enemies' attacks and her armor was struck!... but it holded strong against the attacks.

It took more than this to pierce her armor!

Phantron: "So... the knowledge isn't too much for you? I tought any human would faint from having so much knowledge forced into their brains... but well, I guess some of you aren't as weak as you look... but it's still unimportant."

Phantron jumped toward the farthest wall from the exist and then took a defensive stance.

Phantron: "Take cover!"

Phantron detonated the missile which Roland had stopped using his strange gun. The missile was engulfed in a sphere of fire and soon, the sphere rocked the old mines' foundations... which would probably cause the ceiling to collapse on Phantron and the pirates... or maybe not.

Even if the ceiling held up, the problem was still obvious: a missile explosion is a missile explosion and in a match of flesh VS explosions, explosions always win.

As for Phantron, she was already on the wall so the explosion did not sent her flying into it... but the incredibly heat and the wind still gave her a bit of pain... but she was fortunately far enough so that she wasn't in the blast radius and wouldn't be fried to a crisp.

Down in the deepest part of the mine, Jackson felt the distress signal continue...and the explosion in the tunnel! But he was too close to turn back. Mounds of treasure, magic, and weapons were likely just beyond the very wall in front of him! Quickly, he inserted the gem into the statue, which started to glow a faint teal color...

Jackson: Come on! I don't have time for this!!!

Back with Phantron and the pirates, the explosion went unhindered. It consumed all of the pirates, leaving them dead or doomed to die, save for Roland. Out of a newly found instinct, he quickly created a bizarre magic shield that glowed blue with water, and defended him entirely from any damage of the explosion. The tunnel shook violently, and chunks of rock fell here and there...yet it stood. It was a bit stronger than it looked...however, one more explosion could cause the whole thing to cave in .

Roland dispelled the shield, and slowly walked toward Phantron, who was far down the tunnel.

Roland: I'll give you one chance to surrender and forget all that you've seen. You've almost no chance to fight your way out of here...over a hundred more pirates are above our very heads right now, drawn to a signal, not to mention Jackson himself. Plus, we've got a whole fleet of airships that could be here in upwards of five minutes. And, what

Phantron smiled.

Phantron: "You have absolutely no idea how terrible I am. Didn't you paid attention to the knowledge you just received? Soul Resonance is the ultimate power... it allow me to gain every single ability, power, and weapon of beings I come in contact. How do you think I could make a missile appear out of nowhere... and what about magic? Do you think I can trasmit powers I do not have? I could pretty well take on an army all by myself... but such is not my intention. I shall kill you, for you now share my powers, and then... I will seal myself here. It doesn't matter how many ships there are... all I need is to kill you for you are the only serious threat to the world."

Phantron approached Roland... the way she walked toward him... it was rather... weird.

Phantron: "My dear little piece of organic flesh... I would let you out of this place but... you are unworthy. Your intentions are too evil... your heart too corrupted... your perceptions too twisted. I cannot allow you to come out alive... even if it means that I must self-terminate in the process!"

Phantron jumped over Roland and once behind him, she kicked the air in front of her, toward Roland. Such a move was seemingly stupid... but only seemingly for this was, in truth, Phantron's strongest attack.

Some kind of shadow image of Phantron's foot was sent flying toward Roland! For some reason, Roland knew (thanks to the Soul Resonance) that there was no defense against this attack. This attack was, in truth, a flying kinetic (physical-based) energy blast and as such, technology and magic was powerless before it... and since being struck by it was about as bad as being hit by a truck of several tons, his chances of survival should he receive a direct hit were close to zero.

Roland was quite powerless before the attack, and was sent tumbling away down the tunnel, lifeless. Yes, he was definitely dead. However, Phantron's work wasn't finished yet - another 20 pirates poured into the tunnel, and there were many more behind them that couldn't fit inside yet. They all looked from Phantron, to Roland's corpse... and then opened fire! They were all armed with normal rifles, lasers, grenade launchers, and one even had a plasma gun. How it all wouldn't help them...

Suddenly, the statue Jackson was working with exploded into a teal light! The whole mine shook everywhere as a beam of energy extended vertically from the top of the statue, and then burned a hole clean through the cavern ceiling! From the outside world, the gigantic beam of light could be seen from practically any point within 500 miles. The signal was set

OFF: When you think about it, every single RP is cliched. ALL RPs are about either beating up a "villain" of some sort, may it be evil, good, powerful, weak, cunning, dumb, whatever... or about obtaining a treasure of some sort may it be an item, an ability, a power, whatever.

It is the execution that makes the RP original or not... and for an original execution, you need original characters or at least, make them interact in a original way!

...and even if it's not original, who cares? Quality is not always equal to originality. I seen some original stuff that was REALLY bad before and seen cliched stuff pulled off in truly wonderful ways, after all.

Anyway... this battle is drawing to a close... but this doesn't surprise me. The purpose of the battle was to be a prologue to your RP.

So... so far, we have our (anti) hero, Jackson... and a (probable) villain, Phantron... unless you had not planned a villain and if Jackson is not the RP's main character.

The Soul Resonance had allowed Phantron to become immune to the pirates' weapons... but she was still annoyed about that.

The rocks were falling about, making scratches on Phantron's nice armor... but she didn't cared.

It looked like Phantron had no choice. In order for the terrible power of the Soul Resonance to remain sealed... she will have to hunt down all those that went on this island and kill them.

No one would leave this island alive... and those who left would be hunted until she finally terminated them. Should they meet anyone... then she will terminate them, too! No one must know of her existance... even if she must slaughter every single creature on this world in order to succeed!

Phantron smiled at the irony... whatever the way she was putting it... they were right after all. The Soul Resonance was a cataclysm, giving forbidden powers to all beings and causing the worlds to self-consume... and even when the Soul Resonance didn't killed everything, then a second cataclysm, herself, bringed death and destruction to all things.

It looks like Phantron's bloody legacy of destruction shall continue on this world...

Soon, all humans shall learn to fear her name... for she shall show no mercy to any of them!

...and her slaughter would begin with those 20 pirates!

Phantron: "Heh... foolish humans..."

Phantron opened her mouth, revealing her laser heavy machine gun. She aimed at the ceiling above the pirates and fired, hoping to cause the ceiling to collapse on them, killing them.

During this time, the rocks continued to shower on her, doing moderate damage... but it didn't mattered anymore.

The "taste" of Roland's blood... the taste of his death... had been printed in Phantron's mind. She was, after all, a weapon, and nothing pleased her more than killing... and killing this human had awakened her sleeping killer instincts. No longer feeling pain, Phantron only felt the urge to end the lives of the fools who stood before her... and then, she would kill their friends... and their families too... and why not? The ENTIRE world! She felt capable of it.

All of that to preserve the secret of the Soul Resonance...

...This is awesome.
*Ehem*, right, so, I'm cool with Phantron being in the RP as a villian or whatever. For this story to thrive best, it will need many characters...have you ever seen Rat Race, Zerodius?
---

Apparition: ...Your first step will take place in the Jungle, just to the West of this site. Inside it you will locate the Nightmare Weed. Below its base is the second key, which will reveal where you must travel from there. The plant is a terrible foe, and cannot be defeated without proper equipment.

The transparent projection before Jackson paused for a moment, and he suspected that the message was over. However, a small ring was flung from the statue to him, and he swiftly caught it in his hand.

Apparition: To slay the Nightmare Weed, take the Radio Ring, the first key. Its powers will render the Nightmare Weed harmless, if wielded properly. Also, take this map.

On cue, an old map was also flung in his direction, which was again caught by Jackson.

Apparition: On the map is the location of every key. Value it, and do not lose it. It serves more purposes than one.
Go now, and prove yourself. But remember this crucial advice

In the darkness of the chamber, it seemed that all was finally over... that those pirates were escaping with Phantron's secret...

...

...but then...

CRACK!!!

A laser pierced trought the rubbles and the tall figure of Phantron, now covered in dark flames, came out.

Phantron's eyes were now as red as the blood of those she had killed and her voice was now one of a young woman...

Phantron: "Oh... too bad... leaving already? Fine then... I enjoy a little hunt..."

...

A small light became visible on the side of the island as the airship left... and then, nothing.

A tiny yellow dot could be saw, following the ship from a distance...

Little did they knew that it was a disaster following them... a disaster clad in golden armor and waiting to happen...

Phantron: "The hunt has now begun... let's see how long they will be able to run!.. for you can run, yes you can!... but hiding? You can run but you can't hide!"
